Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 12:56 PM Gnu, a hint: unlocker, English, R2 times this gives you something round. Good concert, lotsa requests (among a bunch of my requests, I asked for and got Soul of a Wanderer, MMario) loads of food, several large cats, one loud dog, and some really nice people. 'Twas good to meet Lou. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 12 Aug 05 - 01:02 PM Key Limey Pi? sinsull - have I told you lately you are one of my favoritest mudcats? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 01:29 PM "Gnu, a hint: unlocker, English, R2 times this gives you something round." No MM, not Key Lime Pie... "R squared times" obviously refers to the olden times of the infamous "English" knight of the "round" table, Sir Ralph of Rotten (Rotten Ralphy) who was ruthless on the battlefields during the crusades. When he got back, he would "unlocker". It's clearly a chastity belt. Gee, I wouldn't think much of a present like that myself. Must be some kinda English humour eh? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 12 Aug 05 - 03:37 PM I made Mary a key lime pie - first attempt and it came out quite well. Mary went to the Christmas Tree Shop and bought me the most godawful wine cooler ever seen on the planet. What do you think? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jacquimorse/slideshow2?.dir=.3a25&.src=mail&.beg=1&.spd=2 Luckily there was a nice bottle of wine to go with it. Otherwise little Mary Sunshine might have found that item in a very inconvenient place! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:11 PM I bow to the mistress of decorum for ignoring my frivolous and risqué post. She's a laaaady, she is. Anyway, if I did offend anyone, Canuck off eh. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: kendall Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:16 PM All you no shows, you don't know what you missed. Jed put on a hell of a good entertainment. I'm glad I went and would go again. We picked up a couple of CDs which I'm sure will get played over and over. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:42 PM And you were too nice, were you, Jacqui, to tell Mary we THOUGHT about getting that for her as a hostess gift while we were there, but liked her too much to do it to her. Y'all are two peas in a pod, ladies! Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:42 PM I'd definitely go again! Next time, I might bring the guitar because there was a serious lack of participatory music and the fiddle never made it out of the case. Of course, certain folks needed to go to bed early, so maybe things wouldn't have been different. It was a very intimate setting, and I got to sit in a position to see the man's right hand at an angle. Mr. Spider-fingers. He did use a flat pick for some stuff, but other stuff, I believe the flat pick was the nail of his index finger. And I want one o' them |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: PoppaGator Date: 12 Aug 05 - 05:47 PM Jed definitely uses his fingernails. In some thread, sometime within the last year, he 'fessed up to visiting a nail salon periodically where a nice Vietnamese lady keeps his talons in trim. That way, he can "flatpick" one song and "fingerpick" the next without having to change picks! And he never has a pick slip off his finger into the soundhole of his guitar, which is a terrible thing to happen mid-performance. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:04 PM 'Y'all are two peas in a pod, ladies!' I take that as the ultimate compliment! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Dani Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:29 PM Believe me, love, it is!! And my girls are totally jealous that they didn't get to visit that store. And *I* am totally jealous to have missed this concert. Glad you could make the trip and share your music so far afield, Jed. Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:30 PM You were going to get that godawful thing for me after I was so nice to you? The poor girl at the checkout counter couldn't even make eye contact with me. Now we wait and see where Kendall insists that Jacqui displays this gift from his friend Mary. Keep in mind, I drop in all the time. It isn't as if they can take it out in preparation for a visit. heh heh Fortunately it is multi-purposed. I have seen chrome versions of the same thing in hospital rooms. Jeri is right. On a Saturday, thiw would have turned into an all night song swap. But some of us had to work the next day. And some of us had been up since 5AM. Middle age is a bitch. August 27 is the nest Song CIrcle. No lobsters but I can guarantee beer. There was quite a bit left over last night. Will we see you this time, Leo? Jeri? How wonderful to have the bright, funny, taleneted Jeri C. in my home even if she chose to sleep in the garden. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:36 PM Or two lunatics in an asylum. I'm not entirely sure I'm not one too, but these guys are so much more organized than I. PoppaG, I think it was Jed that spawned the Mudcat acrylic fingerpick craze. Mick got 'em, I got 'em, Rick Fielding got 'em (and they drove him bonkers), and who knows how many others. I'm giving my nails a little break, so to speak. The nail under the grown-out-most part was really thin and the acrylics weren't staying on very long. What's pretty funny is that Rick named them "The Beef Brothers" because they looked so much alike - same tallness, same facial hair, same ponytail. Well, Mick whacked his off (ponytail) and I thought that the similarity was diminishing. So I get to Mary's, and find Jed with lopped off hair...in the same exact style as Mick's. Now, I KNOW these guys don't get on the phone and say stuff like "Ooh! You just gotta get a pair of these jeans! They make your butt look great. By the way, what are you doing with your hair these days?" Yet another Beefy coinkidink. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: bfdk Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:49 PM Kendall - and everybody else - there's no need to rub it in, it's bad enough as it is not being able to be there :-(( However, I simply couldn't afford the airfare, not coming so soon after going "'cross the pond" once. Now, what really bugs me is that I was actually just north of Boston for two weeks in May this year spending an enjoyable time with elderly relatives I'd never met before. But, had I known about this gig, I'd have delayed my holidays to coincide with it. Heck, by US standards North Shore MA is just about within walking distance of Portland if you're sufficiently determined, isn't it? So, stop rubbing, PLEASE ;-)) Best wishes, Bente in far away Denmark |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Dani Date: 12 Aug 05 - 07:32 PM Organized, Jeri? So they showed you the basement, did they?? Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 05 - 08:22 PM We even conned Kendall into going down into my basement on the pretext of setting up the dehudifier. Amazing how naively trusting the man can be. Locked him down there with the litter boxes. heh heh |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:31 PM Ahem... Back to Jed's amazing music. All I can say is WOW! First time I'd ever heard any of his stuff, and to hear it live at SINSULL's. Thanks, Mary, for setting this up and for keeping after me to attend. And thanks, Jed and Lou for coming to Mary's. I'm still hearing snatches of song in my head 24 hours later. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:33 PM Oh, and that, that OBJECT is truly hideous. It's so ugly that who ever made it didn't even stamp where ever it was made on it. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 13 Aug 05 - 08:27 AM We're just off yard saling - I've got to start NOW looking for something even more hideous for my buddy's birthday in a couple of months......... |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: curmudgeon Date: 13 Aug 05 - 08:40 AM I don't think it looks all that hideous. Maybe it just photographs well. Glad everyone had a good time. See you all on the 27th, or at the Shanty session on the 20th- Tom |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 13 Aug 05 - 09:51 AM Now Mary why you didn't let Dani and I know about Jacqui's birthday so we could have left a present too. (and been long gone before she opened it...) See Jacqui she did have your best interest at heart. As for the gift... well I suppose it could hold flowers under the clamshell in the Godess garden.... hidden in a large clump of foliage... I was hoping to get up to Massachusetts today to see Jed, but Doctor's appointments have once again mucked up my schedule. Oh well I guess I'll just have to add a summer place in Maine to my wishlist. tinker |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 13 Aug 05 - 10:32 AM By the way, Tinker, I found a lovely pair of blue glass earrings left behind from the lobster boil. A much nicer leave behind than the unwashed lobster pot that turned up four days later. Shall I send them on? You're right, Tami. Jed has created some wonderfully haunting tunes that turn up at odd moments. I was so disappointed that Brian didn't make it. He and Jed could have swapped some tunes and lyrics. Next time. |
