Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: katlaughing Date: 17 Apr 06 - 11:15 PM Art, I am sorry I didn't check this thread earlier. I second what Spaw said. You have a lot of folks here who are with you in spirit and sending lots of love and strength to all concerned, esp. to Tom. luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: BK Lick Date: 17 Apr 06 - 10:33 PM Spent a few hours outside the ICU with a dozen or so of Tom's close friends this afternoon (some who rushed here from as far as Utah and Montana). Several remarked that they have long been aware that he has an astonishingly large group of very close friends many of whom have never met each other. The outlook for Tom's recovery appears to be very grim according to the trauma surgeon who briefed us late this afternoon. A nuclear medicine scan today showed almost no blood flow to the brain and massive clotting throughout the left hemisphere. They plan to repeat the test tomorrow am but he did not hold out much hope. Like everyone else, I'm in tears. Tom has been a very close friend of my daughter's since they were in their early twenties. He lived with me for a short time, as he often quips from the stage to his audiences "I've lived with most of you at one time of another." —BK |

Keep your spirits up Art......A lot of your 'Catter friends are behind you and wishing the best for Tom. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 17 Apr 06 - 08:34 PM I just talked with Art, and even though I never met or heard Tom, I know how much Art respected and loved him. It's always a shock when someone who has been such a strong presence in our life is suddenly ripped out of it. My prayers go out to Tom and all who love him. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 17 Apr 06 - 08:09 PM Tom is an amazing man. Back in the 70's when you'd find a bunch of folkies trading one liners (usually at two or three in the morning at the Barbarossa), Tom would wait until evreybody had had thier say a couple of times and then land everyone with a zinger that would shut everybody down. He doesn't say a lot, but when he does you know it's important. And while we're listing his songs let us not forget"McBride Argyle Station Furnished Rooms" and "These Cowboys" ( sometimes called Cowboys Born Out Of Thier Time). Those are two of the sadest and most moving song that I have ever heard. He is in my prayers and in my thoughts. Stephen Lee |

Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 17 Apr 06 - 06:58 PM I did the banjo backup on Tom's original recording of the song about his dog. It was the first and only time I sat in a studio and wore earphones while laying down a separate track. I was nervous and it was ragged but o.k. I guess. Tom re-did it on his recent CD titled: Tom Dundee---Lyfe Arhyme on Flyte Records. Delicate Balance is on it. Hell, here's the rest too... The Old Take-It-Easy Guitar Love Doesn't Die Out In The Yard Workin' On The Car Hello My Heart Dog Come Out Of The Blue and the CD ends with Don't Give Up On Me Now ! Tommy, I love you---and I won't!!!!!!!!!! Art |

Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: GUEST,saulgoldie Date: 17 Apr 06 - 05:19 PM I wish him well. I do not know much about him but what I have learned here, with one exception. He is the author of one of my alltime favorite songs. The song is called "Dog," and I heard it recorded by Bryan Bowers and his autoharp. I make it a point to play this song whenever I whip out the guitar. I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery. |

Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: MadDawg Date: 17 Apr 06 - 11:58 AM I was at the hospital last night till 1:30. Tom was heavily sedated and on life support when I left. I just spoke with someone there and they said there was really no change in his condition. My heart is breaking! Tom supported me through a great personal loss and literally gave me the spark to go on. My prayers are that he gets through this thing and recovers. |
Subject: Tom Dundee From: MadDawg Date: 17 Apr 06 - 11:03 AM At 3 AM on Saturday morning, April 15, 2006, Tom Dundee, Chicago singer/songwriter was severely injured in a motorcycle wreck. He suffered serious head and neck trauma and may not survive. The only info I have is from 1:30 AM this morning when I left St Francis Hospital in Evanston. I would ask everyone who knows of this special person to pray for him to whatever or whoever it is you pray to. Threads combined |

Subject: RE: Tom Dundee injured From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 17 Apr 06 - 09:33 AM I think Tom left Weavermania a while ago, but he was part of the original group. I met him when Weavermania played the Hurdy Gurdy a few years ago. I was very impressed with him and the rest of the group - they captured the spirit of the Weavers without becoming a carbon copy. Please keep us posted on Tom's condition, our prayers are with him and his family. |

Subject: Tom Dundee injured From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 16 Apr 06 - 09:02 PM Word has reached me tonight that Tom Dundee, a mainstay of the Chicago folk music world at least since the 1970s, was badly injured in a motorcycle accident---that possibly involved a stroke as well. Tommy is an old friend. Details are sketchy but I just want to let his friends and fans in on the little I know. He is apparently at the St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. Tom Dundee is a fine songwriter and singer who wrote one of my favorite songs of all time. Titled "A DELICATE BALANCE" --- if it's not in the digitrad I will be posting it soon. As an original member of the Weavers revival group called WEAVERMANIA, along with Michael Smith, Mark Dvorak and Barbara Barrow, Tom showed this recent generation why we old ones enjoyed the Weavers music so much. Tonight I'm just numb, and hoping this isn't as bad as it might be... Art https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Dundee |
