Subject: ADD: Was a Sunny Day (Paul Simon) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Oct 06 - 03:58 AM Ayup. Allmusic.com verifies that Paul Simon was born October 13, 1941. That makes him 65 years old, which makes me feel really young. Subject: ADD: Have a Good time (Paul Simon) From: Pauline L Date: 13 Oct 06 - 04:33 AM Yesterday it was my birthday I hung one more year on the line I should be depressed; my life's a mess, But I'm having a good time. Oo I've been loving and loving and loving; I'm exhausted from loving so well. I should go to bed, but a voice in my head says Have a good time. Have a good time. Have a good time. Have a good time. Paranoia strikes deep in the heartland, But I think it's all overdone. Exaggeratinmg this, exaggerating that; They don't have no fun. I don't believe what I read in the papers; They're just out to capture my dime. I ain't worrying and I ain't scurrying; I'm having a good time. Have a good time. Have a good time. Have a good time. Maybe I'm laughing my way to disaster; Maybe my race has been run. Maybe I'm blind to the fate of Mankind, But what can be done? So God bless the goods we was given, And God bless the U.S. of A. And God bless out standard of living; Let's keep it that way. Have a good time. Have a good time. Have a good time. --- Have a Good Time by Paul Simon |

Subject: RE: Paul Simon's birthday (13 Oct 1941) From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Oct 06 - 07:50 AM A young man walks onto the stage of Stars in their Eyes, on crutches, with a plaster cast from his feet to his hips. Matthew Kelly introduces him as Simon. "It's very brave of you to come out here," says Matthew. "Please tell the audience what happened?" "Well" replies Simon "about a year ago, I was driving with my uncle when we had a really bad accident. Unfortunately my uncle was killed outright but I survived. I was trapped in the car for six hours before I was eventually cut free." "The doctors had me in surgery for 12 hours but they couldn't save my legs." "That's terrible. But I see you have legs now. Are they artificial?" asks Matthew. "No Matthew, while I was in hospital the doctors informed me that my uncle had in fact died, but that his legs were fine and with all the advances in medical science, they could graft the bottom half of his body onto mine. As you can see the operation was successful. I have been having physiotherapy for six months and hope to be walking fully again by the end of the year." A huge round of applause erupts from the audience. Kelly responds with: "That's an unbelievable story. So tonight, who are you going to be?" 'Tonight, Matthew, I am going to be Simon and Halfuncle' |

Subject: RE: Paul Simon's birthday (13 Oct 1941) From: Wolfgang Date: 13 Oct 06 - 09:45 AM Ouch, Greg. I could tell a joke about the German music duo, Schobert & Black, but I would have to tell too much before you could understand and everyone would be asleep by then. My personal taste has a very broad definition of "folk" including some singer&songwriters. S&G jusbarely have not made it into my folk collection. Their records are at the other side of the room. Subject: RE: Paul Simon's birthday (13 Oct 1941) From: Bloke in the Corner Date: 13 Oct 06 - 12:59 PM OK then, who IS a better songwriter than Paul Simon. Consider breadth, depth and consistency. NO-ONE, that's who! |
Subject: RE: Paul Simon's birthday (13 Oct 1941) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Oct 06 - 02:25 PM I guess I know all the lyrics to all the Simon & Garfunkel songs by hears, and to many of the solo Paul Simon songs. To my mind, Lincoln Duncan is the perfect Paul Simon song, although my two favorite Paul Simon albums are later, Graceland and The Rhythm of the Saints - I like to play them loud, and in the dark. My family prefers that I play them when I'm alone in the car at night, which is fine with me. -Joe- |
