Subject: New Stan Hugill Book and sketches From: GUEST,Jan L Date: 22 Oct 06 - 06:09 PM There are some references to this on the thread for Stan Hugill's 100th Birthday bash, but to set the record straight... A new book is being published "The Bosun's Locker" this is a compilation of the articles Stan wrote for SPIN magazine for many years and we have now received the copyright clearances to publish all these as a book to co-incide with the Celebration For Stan in Liverpool 18/19 November. The book is liberally illustrated with typical Stan drawings and sketches. The official launch is 12.00 noon on the 18th. If you want a preview of the cover and more details go to www.chanteycabin.co.uk or email for more info. We have also been given some drawings Stan did for the TV programme All Hands to Dance and Skylark - he idea of what Paddy Doyle, Paddy West and Maggie May looked like! There will be a strictly limited edition of 100 copies of each of these available at the Celebration -these will be sold in aid of the South Liverpool RNLI Again setting the record straight there is NO X rated version of Shanties - have checked this out with his family!! Or come along for the weekend there are a very few vacancies left and get a copy Jan L |
Subject: RE: New Stan Hugill Book: Bosun's Locker From: Charley Noble Date: 23 Oct 06 - 08:01 AM While I was at the Chantey Cabin (was it only last week?) I got a sneak preview of Stan Hugill's drawings of Paddy Doyle, Paddy West and Maggie May. They certainly were spirited renditions, such as one would expect from the author of SAILORTOWN. I bet he also penned one of hard-working Sarafina. I certainly will be ordering a copy of the book when it is released. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
