Is your Secret Santa the strong silent type, strangely seclusive and .....................well secretive?

Do you sense you are a spurned or snubbed Santee?

If you are also an alliteration addict this thread may be for YOU!

SANTA WHERE ART THOU?

I'd like to join that support group, Emma, I'm feeling a bit Santa-less myself.. :-)

"We're the Santa Seekers, come from everywhere
Singin' out this wee tune to see if you are there
Hoping that you will hear our prayer
And not just leave us in despair
Alone without a Santa, and playing solitaire."
(to the tune of D-Day Dodgers / Lili Marlene)

I'll get me coat.. :o))

Best wishes,

Bente

Alas alack, alone a lass
All she does ask is Santa's task
A word, a deed, fulfil her need
A clue, a cry, a curse, a seed
Of hope, of soap, on a rope, she could cope
With a box, of chocs, or lots and lots
Of things, to her that really matter
Or a lovely CD, by some Mudcatter !

Giok

Hello. My name is sian, and I'm santa-less.

There. I've said it. The healing begins.

What's worse is that my Santee is being a Silent Sheila as well! I can't win!

We could make a pact and send each other prezzies if (gasp!) worse comes to worst!

Oh thank you Santa, those were warming words indeed on a day when the first snow of the season hit Denmark - and the wind-chill factor keeps us just about frozen stiff :-))

I'm being SO GOOD, Santa Dear !!!

Reverent greetings,

Yeah, but Becca, we've got at least one strike against us: we've been hanging out with SINSULL. I think she bribed her Santa with Bourbon Balls, and that's the only reason she's got one herself.

I've heard from my Santa, so I'm not eligible to join this group, but I'd like to offer the following as a mild distraction for group therapy:

a film for you to watch.

Poke around the site (lower right hand side) and you'll find part 2. Be warned, it's very frank in its presentation!

You know Emma I think its kinda cruel to sign up to this and not play the game. I was in your position two years ago and it was kind of sad, the only joy that balanced it out was that I had such good fun with my santee. Chin up love, maybe your Santa will appear soon.

Oh dear. I haven't heard from my Santa at all, and now that I understand the rules, I'm very worried. Could the Santa in the film have been mine? But, honest, I've ALWAYS put out wine and cheese for Santa--ever since I was a little kid--and he never went feral before...

Quietly, forlornly, she turns and slips between the whispering trees, as the leaves fall like tears.

Subject: RE: BS: Silent Santa support group
From: Elmer Fudd

T'was two months before Christmas and all through the 'cat
Potential Santees at computer screens sat;
Clicking their mouses and posting their jive,
Waiting for their handles in "Clues and Nudges" to arrive.
Day after day, they waited and watched,
But their innocent wish now appeared to be botched.
"Nobody loves me in virtual space.
I'm a loser at Christmas, I'm out of the race!
I've been attentive to my own Santee.
But my Santa's gone missing; where can he/she be?"

So to the support group I offer these musings,
In the spirit of a sage's attachment to few things:

'Tis better to give than to receive: This thought shall guide me.
Through Mudcat as through life, with music and merriment inside me.

THANK YOU Quiet Santa for your wonderful news. Not only do I, indeed, have a Santa, but an active, thoughtful and caring one at that, one who sends me pressies. I am blessed, that's for sure :-)

I AM being good, I promise, scouts' honour and all that. I solemly swear that, although I must admit I did spend a few days up in Portland, ME this past August, I did NOT get corrupted by THAT WOMAN Mary Sullivan aka SINSULL - I'm such a poor, wee, naive, innocent thing, me, and my profound innocence protects me from any adverse influences :-))

However, Santa, I think it's time for a wee bitty confession here, now that the pressie has been sent. You see, Santa, I actually liked the people I met at the Sullivan residence, every one of them.. I know I probably shouldn't say this, but I feel it's important to be honest with you, so there you go. Forgive me, Santa, for I have sinned. But not very much, Santa. Whatever anybody else might tell you to the contrary, I shall strongly deny it. I did not go to any cemeteries with any strange men (I did enjoy the icecream and the company, though, Jed ;-)), and I also did not pose for piccies with the Nearly Headless Jesus in Mary's back garden - and any photographic evidence of any such occurrence must per definition be a fabrication.. I certainly did not listen to any of Kendall's and Seamus Kennedy's naughty jokes, and even if I may have heard snippets here and there, I definitely didn't understand a word of it, I'm far too innocent for that ;-))

So, you see, Santa, I'm all squeaky clean and pure of heart and mind, and please don't let anybody convince you otherwise, 'cause that would not be fair. I may have made - in all innocence, of course - a few minor mistakes during the past year, but nothing for you to worry about, Santa Dear..

Yours respectfully,

Bente

I only mentioned you, 'cause my Santa explicitly warned me not to get corrupted by you, see, and so obviously I had to alleviate Santa's fears on that score..

I do know, indeed, that Auntie Sins is a formidable force to be reckoned with, and she did sound rather miffed in her last communication - she might even send me a few fur balls, if I don't step really carefully around her for a while..

As for the potluck, I'd like to join in, if you'll let me. I could bring a layer cake or two :-))

fur balls?
I was channel surfing the other day and saw a program designed to show children how to make wonderful crafts out of household items. The worst was a plaster made from dryer lint. You take the dryer lint and mix it with Elmer's glue and coloring along with some flour. The whole mess is mixed and applied to a bottle then decorated with fake gems. A truly hideous item which set me to wondering if I could not retrieve cat and dog hair masses from the vacuum and create a similar treasure. Be afraid, Bente. Be very afraid.
Love,
Mary

Hello my little Santee. Had any more postcards lately from more exotic places? It's cold and raining here right now, which won't help you with clues at all.

You will be glad to know that your parcel is now winging it's way around the world (do reindeer have wings?) I told the reindeer to hurry, but you know how reindeer are! With some luck you should have your prezzie by Christmas, but if not, then soon after.

I read with much interest, your post about making gifts out of dryer lint. I do seem to accumulate an awful lot. And just because it says "soft toy" on the customs declaration on your package, doesn't mean anything at all - honest. No sirree ma'am! Only the best for my Santee :-)

Should I throw in the towel and join this group? Not a peep! Not a card! I did my Secret Santa best and sent a package (amazing how much you can stuff into a "flat rate" envelope if you use rubberbands and a lot of strapping tape!) I have my fingers crossed for reciprocity. . .

Sniff

Thank you, Santa.

The delay in the arrival of the post card is partially my fault. You see, I received a notice from the Post Office in my town that they didn't like the state of my mailbox (it was rusty..not broken, just rusty) and they refused to deliver my mail until it was replaced. I passed the information along to my landlord who took his own sweet time replacing it so I went a couple of weeks without mail. I just got a flood of things on Friday.

I hope the PO gets coal for christmas, as they were not very nice during this whole event.

Demands of work, etc. keep me from popping in here as often as I'd like, but I've seen no trace.

Then again, I haven't had time to post hints to my Santee either. Sigh.

I can't fault you for aiming at a dramatic arrival in the nick of time--it seems the USPS and the OZ postal folks (whatever they're called) managed an 11th hour delivery for me. Whew! Anyway, we shall see. But I just took a look at my frozen front porch (it's well after midnight and is now Christmas Eve) and there is nothing out there delivered when I was out this evening.

I've stopped baking for now, and I'm taping The Man Who Came to Dinner to watch tomorrow. . .

When he promised me a token in the mail,
To be followed by a present. Maybe he did not remember
My address. Each day the postman, without fail,
Delivers bills, delivers junk mail and the supermarket flyers,
Even jury duty notices! But still
I wait to see a word from Santa or the little elves he hires
And I wonder if I really ever will.

Either it hasn't come yet, or it did come, and he didn't like it, and doesn't know how to say so... Either option leaves me a bit nail-bitey.

I had an almost silent Santa in 2004 - they posted 4 words right near the beginning, and were never heard from again, and as time went by and I heard nothing month after month and into 2005, I eventually got a Super Substitute Secret Santa, Stilly River Sage, who sent me a lovely parcel - I think it was in about April 2005. Although I asked, nobody ever told me who my original Santa was, or what became of them. I don't think the list was published that year either. I still sometimes wonder....

The other years have been really great - this year was particularly special! I'll be in it next year for sure!

I got my present! Scottish Dance book. Aurora Dance Society. Great! and a tee-shirt with their name on it. And a minty-chocolate orb - not melted - already into that. And a lovely calendar of Scottish scenes.
Thank you. Thank you Santa.
"...sent it to you when I got home...." + Scottish = ?? Giok? Hmmm. More searching needed here. No clues on the wrapper.
Thank you. Thank you.
Cheers, Joy

I wrote one of the dances in the book!
My mudcat name is nothing like my real name though!

So just one dance Santa? And you alone? That narrows it down a bit. Rosemary? Ewen? Back to the clues thread. Look for Scottish dancing. I can't wait to try calling some of the dances. Our little local school has just the right number of children for a set.

Ah! Ha! thought so. Wasn't quite sure though. So Rosemary? Must check the credits in the book again. But that doesn't help with your Mudcat name does it?

O dark despair! Whatever shall I do?
It's been five weeks since I have heard from you,
O Santa dear, yet still no postman's left
A present in my box. My soul, bereft,
Waits through the bitter winter nights in vain,
Yet with bright hope to hear from you again.
Have you, perhaps, seen what may make you shiver:
Your gift, once more returning to the giver?

I haven't heard from my Santee!
Finger crossed that they finally got their wee prezzie.
Next time round I am just going to take the bloody present to my Santee's door personally.
I'll just choose my own Santee out of a hat and make it nearish my place so I won't have to buy a plane ticket to deliver it...*grin* or keep it within the country.
Homeland security and all that!
I sent 2 CD's of Mass destruction and finally removed them when the package got returned for second time and sent it a third time CD~less:>(

Actually Homeland security rules and regulations probably spared my SS a lot of ear pain Tami...they CDs were of me singing..*wince* My very nice Postie said that maybe the CDs were causing the prob! So I removed them and I haven't got the parcel back as yet!! I do however have every intention of sending the CDs to another victim as soon as possible...!! * Mad Grin*

Still no word from Santa,
Still no package bright.
Maybe I'll hear from him
Before next Christmas night.
It's been almost two months now
Since he said he'd re-send
The box that was returned to him
But it's not at this end.

So, last Friday I am in my local (pub that is) & a mate of mine of 12 years standing, that I used to work with but now see very rarely was in there, we chatted, he told me that he was quite worried as he had got an order to deliver a bag of coal to my gaff, and he knows that we are gas powered not coal! So he dropped it, rang the bell & ran away! The plot thickens!

Huh? What?? Whoozzerr????

I must've been hibernating for a bit there. But I hear faint voices from afar, calling my Mudcat name. Give me a sec to rub the sleep out of my eyes...

Ah, that's better. Ooooh, hey, it's spring outside! Better get out to the library and log in to Mudcat...

Hey, hello, everybody! Sorry I've spent so much time away. Indeed I did receive a package from Pseudo Psecret Psanta last week, but hadn't found the spare time to sit down at a computer and research the necessary HTML till today so that I could say...

THANK YOU, PSEUDO PSECRET PSANTA !!!!!!

I had given up all hope of post-Christmas cheer and had slunk away sadly into the cold winter's night. Imagine my surprise upon finding a package notice in my post office box, and being handed a present from Santa in spring! Pseudo Psanta apparently lives at the Gnorth Phole, which apparently is in Texas. (Or is that TexaSRS?)

Inside the box was a lovely little teapot in the shape of a kittycat, and the book "BrainDroppings" by George Carlin. So my funny bone has been tickled, my collection of cat stuff has been expanded, and my faith in a real Santa has been restored. Thanks again, Santa!!

But wait, kids -- there's more! Today I find that a friendly Mudelf has conveyed a personal message to me from my original Santa! Seems that his/her package was returned to him/her again -- in shreds this time. Obviously, Fang the Post Office Pit Bull found the contents delicious. Anyway, my Santa wants to try, try again to ship a package.

I think we need a ruling from Liz the Squeak here. Since my Pseudo Psanta has apparently sent out TWO packages (one to her original Santee and one to her Psantee), how do I tell my original Santa to send something nice to my Pseudo Psanta instead? (Besides, the mail doesn't seem to want to go through from my original Santa to me anyway!)

Please advise us, Liz!

Thanks again, everybody!! The library is closing now so I have to log out, but I will try to visit more often in future!

Sharon

I have ceased to think.

I'd suggest accepting the second secret Santa present and re-gifting any bits of it you don't want (or even the bits you do...) to one of the other Santaless or back to your original Santee...

It's too complicated, my brain hurts.. give me chocolate... I only came in here to procrastinate over shampooing the carpet....

Liz, your answer concurs with the advice I got from the Mudelf: accept the original Secret Santa's carefully-chosen present if and when the Postal Service ever decides to perform its service satisfactorily.

I like the idea of giving to the Santa-less! Perhaps there should be a Silent Santa's Santee Spring Swap or something.

Happy Spring, all!

Sharon

P.S. -- After rereading Liz's post, I think I need to say this: I promise my Santa that I won't re-gift any bits of whatever he/she sends me! He/she picked them out just for me, and anything I may give to the Santa-less will be picked out by me just for them!

SharonA--after watching for a while I went away from this list and only now realized the box got there. I tried using my P.O. Box to conceal the source, but the proximity was too close, making the ID easy. It seemed a risky venture to send it to someone else for forwarding, the way your packages have gone awry!
