It's that time of year again to announce our annual fund raiser for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat.

This year it will take place in Whitby on FRIDAY the 9th of March 2007 at the Friendship Rowing Club which is situated on Church Street in the heart of the old town (East side). More details will follow, but if you fancy coming please let us know so we can organise catering, staff, beer etc etc. We may also be able to help out if you need accommodation, not us ourselves, but we can pass on details of boarding houses etc

Cheers

Raggytash and Wombat

Last year was a great year for our fundraising efforts. At the main do we raised £510, this was followed by a gifts of £210 and then our Glaisdale do raised a further £150. Just before Christmas I received a cheque to forward on to the value of £80. A mammoth total of £950 for the year.
A couple of weeks ago we visited Runswick and heard to a new scheme to riase funds by which people can become Friends of Runswick Bay Rescue Boat for an annual fee of £15 which through the Gift Aid scheme means they can actually collect over £19. To my great surprise and delight the Committee have made me their first Friend and given me Life membership for the fund raising efforts Wombat and I have co-ordinated over the years. This is all down to you good people who have donated so much over the years. My thanks must go to each and everyone of you who have given so generously over the years.

So on to this year do, we will maintain the format that has done so well in the past, only this year the venue has changed due to Wombat and I relocating to Whitby in the New Year.

The Friendship Rowing Club is situated On Church Street in the centre of the Old Town on the East side of the River. A good size room with a bar and cheap beer (hooray). We will kick off as normal about 8pm and sing until we are thrown out sometime after midnight. As usual we will hold a raffle (any donations of prises would be much appreciated) a collection and I will make my usual supper for which donations of £1.50 will be requested, although you can give more if you wish. Hopefully the same crowd of you will attend and hopefully make a weekend of it, so impromptu sessions will continue on the Saturday and Sunday.

If anyone requires accommodation we can pass on contact numbers and we may have moved into our new house by then and may have a limited amount of space, but it's only about half the size of our existing house!

Please let us know if your coming over so we can let the club have an idea of numbers and so I will know how many to cater for. Hears looking forward to another great night.

Cheers everyone

Raggytash (Nick)

I love seeing this thread each year. It's dangerous work and it takes lots of traing and skill to perform the rescues. Long periods of boredom punctuated by short periods of stark terror. Good on the guys and gals who brave the seas.

I tried to buy some Corned Beef but the local supplier said that he could not supply catering sized tins in time for the do, so a trip to Scarborough was on the cards. However I went to Elizabeth Bothams, the bakers and asked if they could sell me a couple of catering sized tins. Joe Bothams said he would let me have them at cost which I thought was very kind of him. Today when I collected them he said "consider that our contribution to the Rescue Boat" which is brilliant.

So when you're in Whitby please remember that Botham's is the bakers to go to!!

We are both keen adherents to the Botham's cause. Unfortunately the tearooms don't open on Saturday, but we can recommend them to anyone visiting on Friday, or you can purchase their wonderful products from the 2 shops.

Looking forward to seeing you all there over the rest of the weekend.

This was a cracking 'do' that raised over £650 for the upkeep of the Runswick Bay boat. Thanks to Raggytash and Wombat for giving us such a great excuse to congregate in Whitby to make music together. It was especially good to hear MTed playing some very classy flamenco (All you need is ten fingers. On each hand.)
Same again next year?
Tim

Just got back from Whitby.Well worth the travel. Great night was had by all. Very well attended, the place was heaving. Good venue at the Friendship club and very well organised.
Looks like it's going to be another record breaker in terms of money raised for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat and that's great news.
Special thanks to Raggytash and Wombat for all their hard work in organising this do.
The brilliant turn out and special atmosphere shows just how popular this event has become.
I'll definately put it in my diary for next year and hope it will be held at the same venue.
Chris

Brilliant night! Thanks a lot. Excellent corned beef hash and good music. The amount raised was staggering. Any of you who missed out (for whatever reason) who wish to increase it still further can contact Raggytash who will be pleased to empty your pockets.

Remember - this is one of the boats that is NOT supported by the RNLI but is kept going because the locals recognised the need. It saved at least 4 lives last year.

What a good night the total raised over the weekend was a staggering NINE HUNDRED POUNDS !!!!!
The music and singing was brilliant, as was the whole atmosphere of the night, a great venue too
Wombat and I took the money up to the Royal Hotal in Runswick yesterday evening and passed it to Mike Sewell, the coxswain of the Rescue Boat.
A HUGE thank-you to each and every everyone of you who came and took part and parted with so much cash.

Cheers

Raggy

Wombat and I were asked to play a charity St Patricks night with some friends at the Humber Cruising Club in Grimsby on Saturday, at the end of the night the money they raised was donated to charity, half to the Lions Club and half to the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat so I took another £125.00 up to Runswick on sunday afternoon.
