Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 03 Jan 04 - 01:03 PM I believe there's a singaround in Scanlon's in Brigg of a Wednesday night. Please check that elsewhere before making a special trip. Otherwise, the Beverley sessions would be worth visiting, or the Six Bells in Barrow every Tuesday, or the Brocklesby Hunt in Goxhill every Wednesday. |

Are there any clubs and or sing-a-rounds in the area you could recommend should we be in the area of Hull or near by in the mean time? We have many down here not least of all 'The Bull in Barton le Clay Beds' on Mondays. |

Oaklet is on hand with teat dip to cater for all ruminant needs. The Eurogathering will take place in Barrow Upon Humber, North Lincolnshire (a spit from Hull), close to Barton Sans Hyphens, and the peoples of Bedfordshire are particularly welcome. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Susanne (skw) Date: 01 Jan 04 - 07:46 PM Please: Why is it that I seem to have the knack of bringing threads to a full stop? Refresh, with a happy New Year to all Mudcatters and particularly to those I've met so far at Muenster, Groningen and Selby. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Susanne (skw) Date: 08 Oct 03 - 09:23 PM Small and hairy is slightly more beautiful than big and hairy, isn't it? (Talking entirely of facial hair, of course ...) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Noreen Date: 08 Oct 03 - 07:04 PM Sorry Andy, I missed your joke. (slap wrists) No, the lovely Skipjack is neither small nor hairy (and no, I'm not going to tell you how I know) but his beloved boat is dented :0( |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 08 Oct 03 - 06:08 PM Noreen, do you want to tell me that Skipjack is not small or not hairy? ;-) |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 08 Oct 03 - 12:39 PM Yes John, moorings are available on the Ancholme at South Ferriby, where a small hairy farmer will look after your craft whilst you are visiting Goxhill |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: danensis Date: 08 Oct 03 - 09:15 AM I've just looked at the map to see where Barrow upon Humber is, and find out its quite near Goxhill, where my great-great-great-grandfather came from. So a real roots event! I wonder if we can moor a boat in the Ancholme? |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 06 Oct 03 - 05:51 AM MudGuard - thanks for your most valuable advice - but have you ever seen a lead duck swimming? (Not leading, but the heavy metal.) Skipjack - thanks for the soothing news; I'm keen to lie down next to Andreas - when I'm full of beer and on my back I'm an unequalled master snorer. So I could give it back to him for his most bloody advices about swimming to Hull. Wilfried (just back from a town twinning band meeting in France and slowly recovering. Why are musicians so prone to drinking everywhere? My head!) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 02 Oct 03 - 07:19 AM Eric - I'm on for holding it again. My_guru said she'd help out with organising (are you still on for that Hilary?). I'll post a new thread about it and see what the interest is like. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Morticia Date: 01 Oct 03 - 10:23 AM My kazoo wants to go too so I suppose we'd better go along with it....let the little bugger out on it's own and all sorts of unpleasantnesses occur.... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 01 Oct 03 - 10:15 AM I too can remember the Stony Stratford Kazoo Orchestra. Does the new model have buttons or keys ? With the tin kazoos the main trouble was that they could be rather sharp - I once ripped my hand open on one ! In spite of Fib and her WMD, Linda & I will try and make it - I might even bring some of my beer. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 01 Oct 03 - 09:31 AM Yo Fibs!! Lovely to see your bone-axe handle again! Hope you can do both, do Portaferry and Hull9. And I second Andy. You already know all the tunes, more or less! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 01 Oct 03 - 09:24 AM But, Richard, I heard the Stony Stratford Horror Kazoo Band... ;-) Fib, let me step on it and we will see whether it goes flat or not... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 01 Oct 03 - 09:11 AM Pshaw! I have scrimped together enough money for a rosewood tunable bass kazoo. It gives a fine, rounded, deep tone and NEVER goes flat. |

That, or Eurogathering 200x in Portaferry instead? Skippy - I will do my very best to get to |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 01 Oct 03 - 08:56 AM Wilfried, if you are rash enough not to take Andreas' sound advice, a poor second would be shinning up the mooring ropes of the Pride of Rotterdam. Flying is a cheap option, but sadly the nearest airport that offers runway space to budget airlines is Leeds/Bradford, and you will then be involved with expensive and time consuming rail journeys. We do have a perfectly suitable international airport on our doorstep, at Kirmington (Humberside Airport), but only sheiks and lottery winners are able to afford to use it. I would suggest booking P&O Ferries out of Rotterdam Europoort, as a foot passenger, on the night of Thursday 29th April 2004, disembarking in Hull on the morning of Friday 30th April, spend the day probing the soft underbelly of Hull, after which I will collect you and drive you over the water to Barrow. Likewise, I will return you to the ferry terminal in Hull to catch the evening boat on Monday 3rd May. Change any of the dates above to suit your itinerary (i.e. I can have one of my people meet the Saturday morning boat, and/or deliver you back on Sunday night) Andy and Wilfried, we should be able to run to floorspace for both of you, so consider yourselves housed, however Spartan the truckle So that's sorted. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 01 Oct 03 - 07:32 AM Wilfried, to get there cheap: throw yourself into the nearest river you can find. Always swim downstream. At one point you should end up in the north sea - head for Great Britain, once you see it follow its east coast to the north, then swim up a bit of the Humber - four miles before you come under the bridge, get onto the lefthand (according to swimming direction) bank... ;-) Are you expecting any tr Skipjack, don't give the floor space I booked to someone else! And while fine-tuning, please consider giving us a tour of Hull! As I have never waxed any bikini - which quantity do I need? And which brand is the best? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 01 Oct 03 - 07:17 AM Hi, Skipjack - thanks for the rapid answer. Oh poor me, I'm growing old - when an experienced librarian doesn't see a title any more, he should be drummed out to the library wall and fusilladed with all honours. If you could care for a simple accomodation: with 1. 2 strong older trees in the garden for my hammock, distance not less then 5 yards (oaks or/and limetreespreferred, not younger than 100 years), 2. a small place for a dachshund garage (the regulation field tent), or 3. any space under any roof (above or under a table about 6"6' long and 3" wide) I should be more than content. How to get there cheap? Is there a Ryanair terminal near? Starting saving, and polishing my favourite treble recorder Wilfried |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 01 Oct 03 - 05:16 AM Wilfried, old love, I am delighted that you ask. The thread title hints at the date, but to dignify it with days, we kick off on the night of Friday 30th April, and disperse during Monday 3rd May, which is a public holiday in the UK. The weather can usually be relied on to be appalling at that time, with the notable recent exceptions of 1997 (when we changed Governments) and 2003. Yes, we British are obsessed with weather. I mention this here in case any potential attendees are already packing; put in ice pick and crampons as well as the bikini wax. We are to gather in the village of Barrow Upon Humber, in North Lincolnshire, here . Barrow is about five kilometres south of the city of Hull, across the wide expanse of the muddy River Humber. From Hull, one has to use the magnificent Humber Bridge, which alights at Barton Upon Humber, four miles to the west of Barrow. We are still fine tuning the event, and will post more here nearer the time. I will also do some research on local accomodation in the reasonably near future. Greg |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 01 Oct 03 - 02:45 AM Greetings to you all, especially Skipjack. Would you be so kind and post the date and place here? I'm too idle to work my way through all the trollish complaints in the old thread. My participation depends, alas, on the costs of transport; nevertheless I'm eager to come to see and hear North Lincolnshire men in their natural habitat. Mooman's proposal sounds sound to me; after a meeting overseas we should change to terra firma of the real continent, and then back to another isle. Wilfried |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 17 Sep 03 - 03:20 PM Noreen, problem with that might be that Letty is not in Cork in 2006 anymore... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Letty Date: 17 Sep 03 - 03:16 PM I think that's a great idea, Cork would be a fine location. But it might be better to have a meeting on the continent in 2005, and have the Cork meeting in 2006. Come to think of it, do we know any mudcatters in France/Italy/Denmark etc.? Letty, in removal stress: too many books, aaargh! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 17 Sep 03 - 03:13 PM Everyone: You'll find the keys to my house taped to the udder of LL7659 (pet name, "Noreen") in the field opposite. Please use the house and outbuildings as you see fit as I am (as Skip so rightly reports) attemping the walk up the A38(M). I am trying it from the Dartmouth Circus side, so wish me luck. Mrs Drinkall from no 21 informs me that Frank is away at his sister's in Cleethorpes that week and she has offered to provide entertainment. |
