I got mine from Elderly Instruments. I just did a search on their website and didna come up with anything. I will check the shelves next time I am in. I know I have seen it, but maybe it has gone out of print since.

Don't know if this is proper, not really on "thread" but does anyone know of a song called "Mandy Lane" or maybe its "keep On Truckin' Momma"? Hi, Reslems - Click here to get to the complete list of songs that were published in Sing Out! I searched for mandy, lane, truck, and mama, and didn't find it. If you'd like to find the song, start a new thread with a specific title - like Keep Truckin' Mama/Mandy Lane, perhaps.

Balladeer, call Sing Out! and let 'em know you're interested. For a couple of years now, they've been promising to put that book back in print and publish more reprints, but they haven't come up with anything.
For that matter, the publication of the second volume of Rise Up Singing has been delayed at least a year until 2000, and I can't think of any new books that have come out of the organization in recent years. I'd sure like to see more - their songbooks are pretty darn good.

I have recently ordered a couple of books from Sing Out! I took the opportunity to grovel and scrape, begging them to reissue vols 1-6. I got a friendly response, but no promises. If enough requests hit them, commercial common sense suggests they will reprint. So FLOOD them, folk-lovers ...

Balladeer, I wish I had another hint for you. I checked the best used-book resource I could think of, www.bookfinder.com/, and came up with nothing. Lots of copies of the blue book (the later one) are available, but not the pink one, which covers volumes 1-6. If there's particular songs you want, search the database and the forum first. If they're not there, I'll be glad to post 'em. Another book to watch for is Hard Hitting Songs for Hard-Hit People, by Lomax, Guthrie, and Seeger - it has songs similar to what you'd find in those early issues of Sing Out!. Also volumes 1 and 2 of the People's Songbook, but that might be harder to find than the "Reprints" book. Any of the paperback songbooks put out by Oak Publications in the 50's and 60's are real treasures. One I'm searching for is "101 plus 5 Songs for Camp."
I almost hate to tell people about places like Bookfinder. I told a friend about a bookstore in downtown Sacramento that has a good selection of used songbooks, and now my friend always beats me to the store and she gets first pick.
Hey, get this: a couple of stores at Bookfinder have the 1967 Sing Out! issue about Leonard Cohen. The price? $150. Lordy, Lordy...

I begged and pleaded with them to re-issue the Vol 1-6 book over two years ago. I got the same response and am still waiting. I then found in a used bookstore each of the individual reprint books and bought them for I think $1.50 or $2.00 each. What a find!. So I now have the songs if not the books. I would haunt used books stores in your area for old SingOuts and/or check AABE periodically.

lordy, indeed, Joe...I have a few from the 1962-4 era...a few more from later....a number of the reprints...and....several from the first few years..including vol.1,#2, and vol.1,#3!!!! wonder how they'd do at auction!

balladeer, if worst comes to worst, I have access to a library which has virtually all the back issues and I could **** some or all of it for you. I recall that it may also have a **** of the pink book. This is not a big problem for me, though it would take a little time -- I frequent that library a lot.

Peter T. has a good idea balladeer (or is that ballad dear?). There is a pretty good music section in the reference library on Yonge north of Bloor. It is worth a trip even if you don't find that particular book.

As you may have noticed I'm new here. I stumbled on this website by accident. "Mandy Lane", and "Keep on Truckin Mamma" were standards when I was playing. I used to know the lyrics, but I know people who probably still have them. I'll check it out.

It would appear many are in search of Reprints from Sing Out!. I too have some of the originals of the first twelve ... they are where I learnt my first folk songs from in the sixties (I hold my age well ... OK?). But I have only six of them. I had seven, but some light-fingered tealeaf knocked one of them off. I shall immediately send a message to Sing Out! pointing them here ... might help, who knows?

I don't think we are all referring to the same thing all the time..there is Sing Out...and there are the reprints...I have some early Reprints..and also some early issues of the **original** magazine before there was anything to reprint! The first few years were thin little things with a few left-wing words and a few songs..

Well, first there was the magazine - it's had some twenty songs in each issue for quite some time, and you can click here to get to the entire list of songs the magazine published. Later, they published 12 volumes of "Reprints" of the songs, thin booklets with just songs in them. Still later, they published two books of The Collected Reprints from Sing Out! - the pink book is volumes 1-6 (1959-64), and the blue book is volumes 7-12 (1964-73). The pink book is out of print, but those of us who have it will gladly post any song anybody might like. Click here for the index of the pink book.
I wonder if there are "reprints" booklets for the earlier and later years of the magazine, and whether the pink and blue books I have contain all the songs ever published in the smaller "reprints" volumes.

Yeah, Balladeer, I kinda think that if anyone here has the book, they're going to hang onto it with an iron grip. However, we'll keep our eyes open and we'll be certain to pick it up for you if we find another copy. I've done that for Mudcatters a few times.
You might want to go to the Website of Down Home Music - they have some good out-of-print books. Another legendary music store is the Denver Folklore Center. I didn't get there on my trips to Denver, but I've heard it has "everything."

I think it's the correct book, but you'd better check to make sure. The one that's out of print is the pink book, published in 1990, is Volumes 1-6, 1959-64. The blue book was published in 1992, Volumes 7-12, 1964-73.

I was just about to walk out the door of Moe's Books in Berkeley, CA, yesterday, when I noticed a cart full of used songbooks that the store had just received. It cost me $177.91 by the time I got out of the store. Unfortunately, another guy saw the cart at the same time, and he got the Weavers and two Ewan MacColl songbooks. Seemed like a worthy sort of guy, though. I gave him Mudcat's URL and told him he was responsible for MacColl songs. (grin)
