As some of you may know, I have been on a special diet for over a year and, having found what works for me, I have been quite successful. When I reach my goal my overall loss will be close to one hundred pounds and I am not that far away from it.

On another thread, I posted a link to an article about muscle/fat loss ratio during weight loss which I found fascinating (15 to 20% of weight loss is muscle). Not a good thing but better than letting the fat remain. The loose skin looks terrible but, same deal.

My question is, "What are the bad things about losing weight?". I'll go first with another problem I encountered just moments ago.

Being able to wear the jeans I wore 25 years ago is a great feeling. Having to buy new suits, pants, etc is a pain as I am a man who detests shopping for anything but tools and groceries. When I see a deal, I go for it big time so I don't have to be bothered again for a good long while, especially if the timing is right. That is why I bought 18 briefs (jockey shorts, tighty whities...) on sale at a great price early last summer. They fit well at that time.

Now, I noticed a few months ago that the little fellahs were sticking to my thighs now and again but no way was I gonna buy new shorts for at least a couple of years. A small inconvenience and I am not shy about adjustments at the hardware or grocery stores. At least half of the customers know it is a requirement at times.

However, I was just out in the driveway chopping ice away from the eaves trough downspout leads, slipped on the ice and lost my footing. Halfway to the ground, I realized lefty was in an awkward bind. There was no time for any adjustment until I hit the ice at which point poor lefty was inconsolable. Even as I sit here and type, lefty is still pissed off and he's letting me know it. I hope there is a sale on men's underwear soon.

Excess skin is a problem after one loses weight, gnu.
I have a few thoughts on consoling Lefty but maybe I ought to keep them to myself.
Tried ice?
Mary

Having no Lefty, or Righty for that matter, I can't help with that (although I commiserate), but I do have a question: What is/has been your regimen for weight loss? So far as I remember, it was a matter of having your beer a flight of stairs away from where you spend most of your time. What if one rarely drinks beer? What would you suggest that would work for me?

ya gotta keep excercising to keep from losing the muscle -- absolutely essential.

Buying new clothes also gets to be a drag.

People not recognizing you is fun.

SINS! "Tried ice?" HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!

Jac... I have discussed it at length in other threads. Biggest thing is to eat at least every two hours, mostly fruit, veggies and fish (ya gotta have sommat with the fruit... I prefer a couple of spoonfuls of cottage cheese... it keeps the sugar spike down). After 6PM, wait until soon-to-bed and it's whole wheat toast with peanut butter and water. Keep that up for a few days and your appetite will lessen and so will the intake.

Thought you might "get it", gnu.
That diet is doable but what happens when you having a craving for an entire bag of chips with dip?

SINS... that's part of the diet. THIS week only. Pick your night.. Saturday? You get TWO bags of the lightly salted chips and TWO dips (I don't get the dip... I gave up salt as it really helps put on weight and dip is FULL of salt). You eat only veggies (NO salt, NO butter) and fruit all day. I am talking green beans, wax beans, Del Monte French Style Green Beeans, coleslaw/salad with a wee bit of dressing, with only water, whatever. I am talking fruit salad in light syrup with the syrup drained... you get the idea. Then... you get the remote and inhale as much chips and dip as you can.

In the morning, back on the diet. But it's once a week.

As some of you may know, I had an incident with coleslaw (there's a thread) but I swear cabbage is a weight dropper... in moderation.

Forgot... too much carrots/cabbage/coleslaw can be a pain in the ass.

And, you have to eat ALL the chips and dip because it's a waste to throw out whatever you don't eat before you go to bed.

Haggard face, scraggy neck, dry skin... but still far too broad on the beam.

It's the same mini-meal program we have posted and preach-- which I learned from a diabetic friend who taught it well. Peeps at our house have been on it for years now. For me the goal has been SLOW loss so it HAS been slow, and for Hardi it's been a faster goal that he also achieved. The former approach allows as much shrinkage as aging skin is gonna get. Enough protein in the mix keeps muscle loss low-- another reason mine has been purposely slow, to be as cardiac-muscle-sparing as possible due to prior damage.

Any food is allowed as long as the healthy stuff haz been et first and a glass of water consumed. And as long as the exercise program has created an active metabolism (we call that the salamander.)

Don't forget about recovery snacks-- skip them and your cravings go up past the controllable stage. Plan for them and they speed the weight loss and the fitness improvement.

~Susan

1)What to do with the extra skin?

2) Gall/kidney stones, if you lose too much, too fast.

Another bad thing about losing weight is getting lighter and floating off.

Nope, you guys. Dr. Oz says that for every 30 pounds you lose, you gain an inch. Maybe that's just for women? :)

One of my friends has been going to the gym (keeping up with 3 boys under 11 obviously hasn't been enough exercise!)

Yesterday he was making plaintive noises asking his partner & kids where his braces/suspenders were as he couldn't make his gig if his jeans kept slipping down!

Fortunately someone knew so he didn't have to keep pulling them up, which was ok for a temporary fix, but no good for a working guitarist!

Sorry about your nads gnu. Rather than get new nads or u-trou, how about a Wax Job on your entire three piece set. Probably the only thing better than doing the job yourself is to have a Chinese girl do it for you. I knew a guy with a priapic condition (for all you dumbasses, that's a boner that just won't quit) but I know this works on smashed balls as well.

Now this guy met a Chinese girl who was really interested in him. They were sitting on the couch and she was whispering in his ears, running her tongue around them, and things were progressing along. He asked her if she could help him with his "condition" and she said, "Oh yes. You need a wax job." He had his sausage polished before on many occasions but figured this was something especially Oriental and so he agreed.

She left the room and came back with two flat paddles, a ball of colored ribbons, and some handcuffs. Once again she ran her tongue around both his ears and then took down his pants. Without comment, she took his priapic member and and blue balls and laid them on one of the paddles, gently tying them in place with the ribbon. Again she kissed both cheeks and delicately ran her tongue around his ears. Then she handcuffed both hands behind his back and picked up the other paddle. She raised it high above her head and with a loud shriek, slapped it down on top of the other, flattening his Willie and Friends between them. The guy's entire body stiffened as though it were undergoing an electrical shock...........and the wax shot out of his ears.

One noticeable thing about losing weight is that all the people who rush to tell you how much weight you're putting on remain as silent as the grave when you're getting thinner.

Feeling colder through the Winter, an extra bit of lagging seems to keep the chill out of your bones somewhat. Negative reactions about it like being asked if you are sure you are feeling alright and not wasting away.

HAving it all creep back again and bring some company with it when you change how you eat again....

I swear all that weight you lost - I found it!

However, we should start a 'Good things' thread to counteract this one... not having permanent indigestion and chest pains are a couple to get it going.

Ebbie... "Dr. Oz says that for every 30 pounds you lose, you gain an inch."

Dr. Oz is a prick. Imagine all the women starving their poor partners out there because that quack flapped his gums on the TV.

"I'm just concerned about your health dearest."

I don't go to Parlee or any of the other beaches. I go to my buddy's place wich is the last cottage on the shore to the west. There is a wooden ramp to the beach about 6m from his lot. At the edge of the lawn is a patio table with umbrella. Also, on the table are binoculars for watching, ahhh, the blue herons and other birds.

At low tide, you can walk out a km. It's beautiful... in summer. He lives there year round. Scarey stuff when the ice takes your car and deposits it up the street. Nice that he gets the insurance money but that doesn't help much when it's the house. Hasn't happened yet but?
