NRA TV

Liberals stick a dagger through the heart of your future.
Answer them with the clenched fist of your freedom.

NRA TV black version

This is the opening declaration of war by the NRA against protestors.
This is the civil war I pictured 10 years ago.

Donuel: "by the sound of it the NRA is as scared as they have ever been."

Yeah. Another way to look at the NRA's declaration of war is
"They realize their only hope is to provoke a civil war."

Mrrzy: "Over the bodies of your cold, dead children."

Where can I get the T-shirt?

Jack that is a viral T shirt for the ages. You have talent. Do you draw or cartoon or just have a visual graphic mind?

LaPierre used his address to the conservative conference CPAC to hit out at anti-gun campaigners, who, led by young survivors of the shooting, have attempted to make political headway in the last week.

“They fantasise about more laws stopping what other laws have failed to stop,” the National Rifle Association executive vice-president said. “So many existing laws were ignored.”
He added: “They don’t care if their laws work or not. They just want to get more laws to get more control over people. But the NRA, the NRA does care.”
LaPierre also hit out at the “breathless national media” which he said was “eager to smear the NRA in the midst of genuine grief”.
Related: Donald Trump stands by proposal to give teachers guns: 'Attacks would end!'
Elites want to “eliminate our firearms freedoms and eradicate all the individual freedoms”, he said. “They hate the NRA, they hate the second amendment, they hate individual freedom.”
It had been unclear whether LaPierre would appear at the conservative conference outside Washington and his name was initially kept off the agenda to protect him from media scrutiny. The NRA often prefers to stay out of the media spotlight in the wake of a major shooting.
Pushing the same agenda on school security as Donald Trump, he claimed schools were “wide open targets”.
“Evil walks among us and God help us if we don’t protect our schools,” he said.
Trump doubled down on his proposal to address school shootings by giving some teachers guns on Thursday, tweeting that it would be a “great deterrent” to killers.
More details soon ...

The local branch of the public library branch
has a big chalkboard near a study area for youth/upper-school students.
With several colors of pastel chalks, a quote has been
written on the board, from Dr. Seuss's Lorax:

Unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going
to get better.
It's not.

In the meantime because I do competition shooting as a sport my email gets blown up about falling prices and clearance sales on the AR .. Llke I could give a crap about owning a rifle that is no use for me in anyway not hunting not target .... However prices as low as 299 and 18 year olds allowed to buy them   look for more of this sadly

Here is a proposition all real sportsmen would support
1) NO assult rifles
2) Ten day waiting period for comprehensive BG checks
3) No bumper stalks or suppressors
4) At least 21 to buy a rifle or firearm of any type
5) NO more gun show loopholes
6) Federal conceiled carry based on NY or CA current applications

These are just common sense changes that would be easy I think to get behind even if you support the 2nd amendment fully

As a retired teacher, I've been trying to imagine the teachers in the school where I taught having guns. I've been thinking about how it would feel to be issued with a firearm and some ammunition, and told to practise, ready to use it in the event of attack. I've been picturing this item, perhaps kept in a drawer of my desk, or maybe even on my person in a specially-provided holster. I really have been trying hard to imagine this.
But I can't.

Dan you are being too humble. Using a different example there are lots of violins out there and 95% of the players of those violins - shouldn't.

Only people who have the discipline to devote 10,000 hours of their life practicing ever become masters. (like old dude) The remainder of players are in it for the fun but make lots of mistakes. At least those wincing mistakes are not deadly. With guns when mistakes are impulsive the result is madness.

I'm sure we have all sick and tired of gun-violins.

I'll get me hat.

I am forcibly reminded of "All In The Family," the TV sitcom from years ago.
The topic was the hijacking of passenger plane flights,
and there was this fake reality-show called The Man In The Street.
What happened was that Archie Bunker found himself in the crosshairs.
So Archie Bunker went on camera and stated,
What you gotta do is
you gotta arm all your passengers . . .

this was supposed to be comedy . . .

I'd guess that those who think having an armed teacher in a classroom would be a good thing if a gunman bursts in, have never been present when a real-life fire-fight breaks out in a confined space full of people. It doesn't take a great deal of imagination...

Peripherally, West Virginia teachers statewide walked out (technically not a strike) yesterday and today, because they haven't had a raise in years, their wages are 48th in the nation, about $13,000 below the national average ($45,600 vs 58,300), and their health care program is utterly shoddy.

And now some . . . moron (with apologies to all other morons) wants them also to stand on the firing line.

Come to think of it, I doubt their employers like the idea of pistol-packing teachers very much either

I wanted to see if there was an objective correlative of my feeling that there was a shift in the "national mood," so I got a copy of the weekend edition of USA Today. I suppose it's on sale all weekend, so if you have a chance, pick up a copy and take a look at the editorial cartoon.

I think Donuel particularly would include it in a scrapbook of the succinct, accurate, and anti-bot.

Anyway, when I got home, I went on line to check out their aggregation of cartoons from various papers during February, and I was gobsmacked. There is some pabulum about Billy Graham, but persevere to #11 for the zinger. If you were born before, say, 1960, and can make it to #36, it should, ahem, blow your mind.

Maybe I'm just out of touch, but what gets me is that this is a nation-wide collection not by the Huffington Post, but by a rag that calls itself "America's Newspaper."

When I try to create a link, it just goes to a 404 error page, but if you google {february political cartoons site:usatoday.com} (without {}) you should be in easy reach. The first page features an obese crested warrior.

Greg F: "Laughing at the NRA or their Republican enablers and stooges won't accomplish shit."

You know, Greg, I think the NRA are quite vulnerable to popular ridicule:

1. The absurdity of some of their positions to ordinary people once they are brought to their attention.

2. The enormous gap between the members' hyper-macho posturing and their actual fear-driven paranoia.

3. The similar gap between their professions of patriotism and their role as corporate lickspittles in corrupting our congress--another clown car.

What are they going to do if they become a universal figure of fun, kill everybody?

I don't think anyone believes they can be defeated by slapping them around with a joke book, but historically, savage ridicule has not been not a weapon to be despised.

We'll see, Jack. But I don't hold out much hope for your approach conquest by ridicule.

The NRA's positions - since 1980 at least - have been universally absurd.

Re: #'s 2 & 3 - they seem to be doing just fine & own most of the Republicans lock stock and barrel. (as it were)

Other than by their membership, they are, and have been for years, a universal figure of opprobrium wch hasn't accomplished shit re: rational gun control. You figure laughing will produce better results?

These folks are no laughing matter, but are an organization the actively supports and promotes terrorism.

They're nort something to make jokes about.

In the realm of ludicrous laughter today, I have pictured the Lunch Lady Brigade performing mission improbable maneuvers with pythonesque lightening speed and agility - for their size

It is alleged that certain people have an aptitude for making defensive head shots under fire. I'm thinking that the Chess Club would be more suitable, quick thinking and independent than members of the football team.

A little bit of a Bonus is what our President has promised if you confront and kill mass shooters. I'm afraid the bonus would amount to overtime pay at Dairy Queen.

if you listen to Freewheeling Bob Dylan as a period piece you'll hear a popular artist making fun of 1960's racism. Lenny Bruce was doing similar things in his night club act.

Perhaps popular artists have a role to play in these huge public debates like racism and gun control.

"Quiet down now, girls," said Sister Benvenuta. "Today we're going to read some of the work of Robert Frost."
"Yes, Sister," said the girls - all except Concepcion O'Hara. She kept talking, and under her desk slowly raised a finger. From her earphones the faint sound of rap came as a tinny echo.
"I SAID QUIET!" said Sister Benvenuta.
"Blow me," said Concepcion O'Hara, quietly.
"I will, then." Sister Benvenuta opened the top of her desk and pulled out the AK-47. Already loaded. She cocked it,* fired.
The bloody shreds of Concepcion O'Hara settled on the girls. A hand landed in front of Sister Benvenuta with a sad wet 'flunppp', one finger still extended.
"Open your books at page 47, girls," said Sister Benvenuta, blowing away the smoke** that drifted from the barrel of the AK-47. But the girls just screamed and screamed.

* Do you have to cock an AK-47? (Whatever 'cock' means.)
** Does smoke come out of the barrel of an AK-47? Do you still call it a barrel?

What a powerful way to teach kids the authority of the gun and the regime. This could be an interesting way to shape feelings about power, guns and the Trump cult. We know who the selected sub human aliens and undesirables are already. Is there anyone who does not?

Reagan wars with the Salvadoran people who were not freedom fighters, bred the poor violent gang insurgency over generations that Trump now conveniently uses to define most immigrants - The MS-13.

Some immigrants are given 2 choices.
Deportation or useful prisoners in a private work prison. We know the deal. We are to a large degree active participants in this scheme just like when the German people played. All we have to do is look away.

Gun training would make an excellent education tool. Learn/expect who the enemy should be. We could have interrogation rooms for privacy and have people tell us who kids suspect of being a mass shooter.

At the heart of America is the school. We must not curse our schools with a Trump gun culture.

when i was a kid doing science in school - we used to have a row of little bottles on every desk - hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid....and something else.

they don't do that nowadays.
the general trend is to make classrooms with less possible hazards.

in America, they're talking about having guns in the classroom.

what a fascinating country. they must be totally different to England.

In England many school age children are mischievous. They would plot to get hold of the gun. Also many teachers are on the edge of a nervous breakdown - they could start shooting.

i suppose with so many guns about - Americans are polite to each other, just to be on the safe side.

"i suppose with so many guns about - Americans are polite to each other, just to be on the safe side."

Haw, haw, good one Al!

Although. . . I live in West Virginia, which is full of hunters and Trump voters, and despite my marked Yankee accent, the people I meet and deal with daily are the most cordial and courteous--though anything but genteel--people I've met outside Japan.

OT question alert:

Whenever I put someone to trouble or mess up somehow, which is often, and I say something about it, the response is always "You're good," or "You're fine," = "No worries/problem." but warmer.

Is this form common elsewhere?

Fuck thoughts and prayers, it's (well past) time for anger and action. Someone said that after the Stoneman Douglas shooting and I thoroughly agree. I informed Amazon that if that if they continue to sell products that promote the NRA or continue to offer NRA TV or if in one month I search their site and find anything pro-NRA on it I'll cancel my Prime membership and cease doing business with them entirely. This from a gun owner who keeps them unused in a locker, a former hunter and shooter and long ago NRA member (back when it was a much different organization). I'm just one person but join me in this and help make it snowball.
A number of corporations are breaking ties with the NRA after this last tragedy and let's put the pressure on them to keep it up. Without our patronage they're out of business.

I second that emotion.
We have an unknowledgeable President who takes the side of the loudest suck up. So when it comes to calling an idea Common Sense, its not the kind that Thomas Paine wrote about.
Trump has an internal level of cruelty not found in a regular human being.
The NRA wish list is not common sense to a nation seeking safety and non lethal journeys to school, church, work, music concerts and rallies.

Now the words Common Sense have been sullied, big brotherized and reduced to nonsense. It is a great loss on its own.

STAY Adamant, stay outraged, stay proud of the truth of real news.

According to the Washington Post, Delta and United airlines are joining Hertz, Avis, Budget car rentals, MetLife, Best Western, First Nation al Bank of Omaha (the NRA's own credit-card issuing bank), and other pillars of the corporate mainstream in severing ties with the NRA.

Fake news?

There was a window in time where being a political cartoonist was a great way of remaining a coward but having a bold mind changing effect on the public.
These days death threats are as common as dirt from any direction.
If you do something, say something and stay resolute despite the trolls.
Its your home, be brave. The high school students are.

A start at least: Washington Post
The world's largest retailer, Walmart, announced a change to its policies Wednesday, saying it would raise the minimum age required to buy a firearm and ammunition and remove any items that resemble assault rifles from its shelves.

In a statement, the company said it would raise its age requirement to 21 from 18, a decision it made "in light of recent events" — most notable the national discussion about gun control since the Feb. 14 shooting at a high school in Florida that left 17 people dead.

"We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms and go beyond Federal law by requiring customers to pass a background check before purchasing any firearm," the company said.

Of course, taking items 'which resemble assault rifles from its shelves' does not mean quite the same as stopping selling them.
But the change in age requirements is a good start.

Keberoxu: "So Dick's Sporting Goods made its restriction announcements

Delta Airlines made theirs, and the Georgia legislature rescinded their $50 million fuel tax break (? $50 million something). (Delta and Atlanta's airport are just about identical.) It would be nice if people started boycotting states who do such things, as they did over the Confederate flag issue. Imagine if they held the Masters golf tournament and no one showed up. Never happen, I suppose, after all. . . golf.

I've just learned that there is a Professional Golf Association dedicated RADIO station, PGA Tour Radio, so even if your eyes have been poked out, you can still follow along.

Furthermore, they have play-by-play re-broadcasts, in case you missed the live event.

I can't imagine a more soothing experience than listening to the dulcet tones of a soft-spoken golf announcer describing every crucial stroke of a match whose outcome you already know.

One month ago,
I posted to this thread about
the homage to Dr. Seuss's Lorax
drawn on a blackboard in colored chalk
in the public library, in the area
where grade school students often reserve study rooms.

Unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing's going
to get better.
It's not.

Complete with the Lorax standing on what looks like a tree stump.

Well, the message is still there on the chalkboard,
and so is the little tree stump.

But somebody had the [expletive deleted]
to rub out the Lorax,
and rather than re-chalk the little Lorax,
the staff used a chalkboard eraser to put the Lorax out of his misery.

a sign of the times?

No, He means they were in a school that had a shooting of some kind.

Donuel,

How many survived car accidents over that time?

I think that the law SHOULD be passed that 18-20 year olds should not be able to get deadly weapons- BUT this should include driver's licenses, cars, alcohol, drugs, being allowed in the military, voting, serving on juries, or deciding to have abortions as well as pistols ( already banned) and rifles - ALL matters that involve judgement and can have deadly consequences.

Or is it ok that 10 times as many children die in car accidents, and 100 times as many by abortions as by guns?

But then, the Liberal viewpoint is that the fetus is the property of the mother, just as slaves were the property of the master, and could be treated however the owner desired.

And BeardedBruce brings in Tu quoque, the "whataboutism" logical fallacy of changing the subject, suggesting the thing you really want to talk about (guns) doesn't somehow measure up to other things HE wants to talk about, trying to render the conversation moot.

If your concern is removing guns from law-abiding citizens, you are correct in pushing more gun laws. If you cared about reducing the number of children killed, you are not being reasonable.
