Subject: Martin Carthy on-line Concert, Jan 8 From: GUEST,CalicoJenny Date: 22 Dec 21 - 05:39 PM Falcon Audio Visual Arts is happy to announce the 2022 winter/spring roster for our monthly house concerts, performed live in our Whitby studio (on Saturday nights this year) and starting with the esteemed Martin Carthy, January 8 at 8 pm GMT (3 pm US east; noon US west). We're lucky to have several co-sponsors for the show (more are welcome!!) who share in the promotion and setting up tip jars: Old Songs Inc., the Folksong Society of Greater Boston, the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, Branford Folk Music Society . . . . so far. During last year's dreary lockdown, Rob van Sante and I created a studio stage where artists can perform for audiences all over the world as if they were in someone’s living room (which, in fact, they were—namely ours!). Given the rousing support the shows received, we’re gearing up to do it again, beginning again with Martin, and featuring Archie Fisher, Martin Wyndham-Read and Tom Lewis among others. As per usual with house concerts, these performances are free and open to all who can get within eyeball distance of a computer screen. But again, as per usual with house concerts, we hope our viewers will support the performers by chucking a few bucks, euros, pounds, rands, yen, dollars into the proverbial tip jar most convenient for you. To tune hinto the livestream event, go to https://www.youtube.com/user/Tulip0852/live (previous concerts also at this link). This will automatically take you to the Falcon House Concert “stage.” Tune in five minutes before showtime, when the host, Janie Meneely, will introduce the program. If you are unable to catch the live broadcast (because of time zone or other challenges), you will be able to watch it (and donate) at your convenience on YouTube for a week. After that, the videos will be available through the Falcon House Concert Archive. |

Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Jan 15 (changed) From: YorkshireYankee Date: 08 Jan 22 - 01:21 AM Bonzo3Legs, I attended the LTYLR Melrose Quartet concert and thought the quality was quite good. What was it you felt was appalling? |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Jan 15 (changed) From: Bonzo3legs Date: 08 Jan 22 - 06:06 AM The video quality which was jerky and slighly blurred, sound was ok though and the performance was wonderful. |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Jan 15 (changed) From: YorkshireYankee Date: 09 Jan 22 - 01:29 AM Interesting. It might not have been exactly sharp focus, but I assumed that was due to the size of my monitor/screen, and I wasn't bothered about it. |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Jan 15 (changed) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Jan 22 - 03:09 AM Rob and Janie have worked hard to ensure that the video and sound quality of their concerts are superb. Take a look at their previous concerts: |

Subject: RE: Martin Carthy Concert From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 13 Jan 22 - 01:03 PM Hello GUEST, from a Mudcat member who is too lazy to sign in today. The first delay was because Mr. Carthy came down with a cold, according to the people at Falcon House which is the location for the performance. THere is already a thread here concerning this performance, and if I were you, I would look for that thread and follow links for info. |

Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Jan 22(change) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Jan 22 - 10:13 PM Hi, Jeri - I think it's good to keep the two subjects together on the same thread. I'm wondering if it's better to attend the Martin Carthy concert on February 12 and give a big tip. I don't think there's any cost for that, but maybe Janie can clarify that. -Joe- Janie (Meneely): What's the best way us outside the UK to donate to the Waterson-Carthy family and avoid fees and exchange costs? |

Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat FEB 12TH From: Felipa Date: 20 Jan 22 - 06:28 PM POSTPONED AGAIN - 12 FEB. |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Feb (change) From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 20 Jan 22 - 07:55 PM Just to reinforce the updated date in Felipa's post. FSGW, the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, confirms the postponement, stating: "Martin Carthy tested positive for COVID, although he's feeling much better now. He expects to be in good shape to perform by February." Falcon House Concert Broadcasts is trying to be up to date at its webpage, although a little more editing would help. Currently, the concert page has too much info and it's conflicting: cancellation of January dates AND January 29 AND February 12 "TBC" for Martin Carthy. Leaves me scratching my head. Old Songs, however, has updated their webpage, confirming Saturday, February 12, at 3:00 pm EST for Martin Carthy Livestream from the UK.
-Joe Offer- In the meantime, take a look at some of the past concerts Janie and Rob have hosted, including one from Martin Carthy from last year: https://www.youtube.com/user/Tulip0852/live |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Feb 12(change) From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jan 22 - 09:05 PM Janie Meneely posted this on Facebook an hour ago: Event by Janie Meneely Public · Anyone on or off Facebook SO very frustrating for us all, and not the least for poor Martin Carthy who has continued to test positive for COVID (he's feeling fine; no worries on that score). An Evening with Martin Carthy has been rescheduled yet again for Saturday, February 12. The details for the show remain the same, though our concert roster has shifted (scroll to the end of this missive): https://www.youtube.com/user/Tulip0852/live The time is 8pm U.K.; 3pm U.S. east coast; noon U.S. west coast. Note this concert is expected to last a full hour, no break, no second set. As per usual with house concerts, these performances are free and open to all who can get within eyeball distance of a computer screen. But, also as per usual with house concerts, we hope our viewers will support the performers and facilitators by chucking a few bucks, quid, dollars, euros into the proverbial tip jar. U.K. donations (£10 suggested) can be directed to Paypal: tulip0852@gmail.com or paypal.me/tulip0852 U.S. donations can be directed to one of our co-sponsors: Old Songs, Inc., the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston, the Folk Music Society of New York and the Branford Folk Music Society. Frustrated? Try https://www.eventbrite.com/.../martin-carthy-livestream... Five minutes before showtime, the host, Janie Meneely, will provide a short introduction and introduce the performer. Janie will monitor the "chat" throughout the show, but Martin will not have a chance to respond to the chats till after. If you are unable to catch the live broadcast (because of time zone or other challenges), you will be able to watch it at your convenience on YouTube for a week. Donations are gladly accepted up to a week after the concert date. Upcoming concerts: Feb 5 Rob van Sante & Chris Parkinson (regrettably Archie Fisher has had to cancel; we hope to reschedule him sometime in the fall) Feb 12 Martin Carthy Feb 19 Martyn Wyndham-Read March 5 The Wilsons March 19 Zoe Mulford (yay!!!) April 2 Tom Lewis |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Feb 12(change) From: keberoxu Date: 24 Jan 22 - 02:06 PM A step in a happier direction: Eliza Carthy updates (on Facebook) that the Carthy household test results today were negative for the first time, hoping and expecting that this includes Martin Carthy. Up to this point, Janie Meneely had reported that Martin was still testing positive but feeling already better. |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Feb 12(change) From: GUEST,calico jenny Date: 28 Jan 22 - 05:49 AM Martin Carthy's on-line concert has been changed yet again (verrrry frustrating for all!!!). It will now be held on February 26, 8 pm UTC. All other details remain the same. |
Subject: RE: Martin Carthy on-line Concert Sat Feb 12(change) From: keberoxu Date: 31 Jan 22 - 10:48 AM We shall see what happens. It's safe to presume that when Norma Waterson died yesterday, Martin Carthy was holding her hand beside her hospital bed. And knows that Norma's suffering is over. It's still an enormous bereavement.
