I have been searching for an old Doc Watson album, and cannot access any of the links beyond your home page. I hope you might be able to help me.

The album I am looking for is primarily childrens tunes and includes Doc's version of the song "Over in the Meadow". Do you know of this album? Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to find it.

Thank You for Your Help, KS

For readability, that would be:

SONGS FOR LITTLE PICKERS -(Sugar Hill 3786)
1 Talkin' Guitar
2 Mole In The Ground
3 Mama Blues
4 Froggie Went A-Courtin'
5 Shady Grove
6 The Riddle Song
7 Sing Song Kitty
8 John Henry
9 Sally Goodin
10 Crawdad Song
11 And The Green Grass Grew All Around
12 Liza Jane

Good Lord! That would be a way to raise kids right, AND a picker's primer!

~Susan

Well, I checked CDNow, and it appears that if you want "Over in the Meadow" on CD, you'll have to settle for recordings by John McCutcheon, John Langstaff, Raffi, or Barney (!). I couldn't find a Doc Watson recording in my usual sources.

I agree with Joe. I went to a website that had what appeared to be a quite complete DW discography with song titles and didn't find anything. The one possible exception was a track listed as "Children's Songs" on one of the Watson family recordings.

I would also call attention to a modern rewrite of the song called "Over In The Endangered Meadow" written by Sally Rogers and recorded on her 1990 "Piggyback Planet" album.

Rich, the children's songs, sung by Dolly Greer, on 'Watson Family Tradition' do not include 'Over the Meadow'. They are: 'Julie Jenkins', 'Hushabye', 'Baa Nanny Black Sheep', 'Sheepy and the Goat'.

I can't believe that Joe Offer is recommending Barney recordings. What are you smoking these days, Joe?
