Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Doc Watson! From: pdq Date: 04 Mar 04 - 07:58 PM Why is this on the "BS" side? If Doc Watson isn't folk music then who is??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Doc Watson! From: GUEST,Martin Gibson Date: 05 Mar 04 - 05:35 PM To me, Doc Watson is bluegrass. Pete Seeger is folk music. Uh, here comes another "What is folk" discussion. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Doc Watson! From: GUEST,BC Date: 07 Mar 04 - 01:04 AM I have to agree with pdq - if Doc isn't folk , therre's no such thing. I'm sure Pete Seeger would agree. Doc really isn't "bluegrass" but bis guitar style has influenced bluegrass as much as Bill Monroe's mandolin and Earl Scruggs' banjo. But then again, I'd consider Monroe and Scruggs as icons of American folk music. Doc, Bill, and Earl have much stronger trasditional roots than Pete, and once again, I'm sure Mr. Seeger would bw the first to agree. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Doc Watson! From: Midchuck Date: 07 Mar 04 - 10:48 AM I also question why this thread is down here. Someone seems to feel that Doc Watson isn't music. If that is in fact the case, someone is a dork, pure and simple. Peter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday, Doc Watson! From: Midchuck Date: 10 Mar 04 - 10:47 AM Whoops! Doc ain't the only one in March! Norman Blake - 3/10/38 (according to TUMGF). Peter. |
