When I played with Doc Watson last Oct. he told me about this great concert. Here's the info:

Doc Watson will be playing with Earl Scruggs and Ricky Scaggs at Reynolds High School Auditorium in Winston-Salem, NC Dec. 7, 7:30 PM, 2002. Ticket info 336-721-1945.

The concert will be rebroadcast as a future PBS Special, if you're in the area don't miss it!

Pat Humphries and Sandy Opatow will be playing this Sat. Nov. 23, 8:00 PM at the Garage also in Winston-Salem. Tickets 336-777-1127.

See you there,

Richie

Reynolds Auditorium in Winston-Salem NC, was once called the "Showcase of the South" it was donated to the high school by "Reynolds" tobacco family nearly 80 years ago. It seats close to 2,000 people and has excellent acoustics.

I've played there many times: my favorite memory is when I played with Chet Atkins there in 1992.

It's a great place for a concert.

Richie

So, Richie, why don't you join the Mudcat and share some of your experiences and knowledge with us on a regular basis. Anyone who has performed with Chet Atkins and Doc Watson is someone we would like to hear from on a regular basis. What are your instruments? Tell us about the projects you have worked on and the other performers you have worked with.

All the best,

Mick

Mick-

Thanks for asking about me. I'm more interested in promoting music than performing although I have shared the stage or performed with Doc Watson, Charlie Byrd, Chet Atkins, Martin Simpson and a pile of other players.

In the 30's my grandfather Maurice Matteson collected ballads in the Beech Mountain area.

I'm President of the Piedmont Guitar Society in North Carolina and do a bit of research
Here:Click here I've put this on the last few months in my spare time. I teach and play about 75 hours a week.

I should join and since you suggested it, I think I will. I need help in my research and have been spending a lot of time. I have been trying to contribute as much as I can.

My goal is to share my info with others, and to promote old-time, bluegrass and folk music.

-Richie

Is Doc bringing Jack, or Richard? Makes a big difference in the quality of his shows.

Peter.

-Thanks Steve

-Midchuck, I'm fairly certain (that's how its advertised) it will be just Doc, Earl and Ricky but I was going to call Doc and ask him about it. I'll let you know.

Also Ricky Scaggs will be playing? at Minton's Pawn Shop, in North Wilkesboro. My bluegrass group played there on the radio show last Friday morning on Nov. 15. They said he'd be there on Dec. 5 (6?).

Hi Richie, I add my welcome, this is a fine, curious (in all senses of the word) web site.   What a great show that promises to be (as a Canadian I hope my local PBS station beams real good across the border whenever it happens.

To echo Steve-o, you have a show with Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs, and Earl Scruggs, and someone is wondering who else Doc might be bringing??????

yours, Peter T.

Well, he could improve it by me playing my bodhran and uilleann pipes, but that would be far closer to Nirvana than us mortals could ever hope to achieve.................

Hey Big Mick,

I was surprised by the absence of bodhran and uilleann pipes on the latest Earl Scruggs & Friends CD. Did you have another engagement when they were in the studio. I'm just imagining Foggy Mountain Breakdown on uilleann pipes.

Welcome Richie.

Welcome, Richie,

Are you coming up to Bob and Susie's for the holidays? Glad to see your post here. Tell the mighty Doc he's looking good and I really enjoyed the Legacy album with David Holt. Looks like your band's still playing.

Susette and I are finishing up the CD, although the odds and ends (pictures, graphics, etc, are taking as long as the recording)! Keep in touch. Chance
