Subject: RE: BS: What have the Manx ever done for us ? From: Troll Date: 24 Nov 02 - 05:50 AM 'Spaw, anyone who claims to actually like "Vegemite" has absolutely NO call to disparrage Kippers. And, as Greg said, Manx kippers are the best in the world. A couple of pairs of kippers, two fried eggs, a loaf of whole meal bread from the Home Bakery in Ramsey with butter and marmelade and you have a breakfast that is hard to beat. Of course if you REALLY like Vegemite the joys of the Manx Kipper may well be lost on you. Pity. troll |

Subject: RE: BS: What have the Manx ever done for us ? From: Troll Date: 24 Nov 02 - 10:47 PM The Isle of Man was named for Mananan mac Lir who was one of the Celtic Gods. A sea god, he protected the island with a thick fog so no one knew it was there and raiders could not find it. The name has nothing to do with gender. If BobbyBob picks up this thread, maybe he will expand on the subject. troll |
Subject: RE: BS: What have the Manx ever done for us ? From: Mr Happy Date: 25 Nov 02 - 02:48 AM troll, thanks for that info. in manx gaelic, the island's name is 'mona', linked to mon/mona, as in ynys mon [anglesey] |
