Half the friends I have are 'Yanks' as you put it. The one thing I am curious about though is this: why would you expect the 'Yanks' to do ANYthing for 'us'. I think you got it wrong, Brucie, the troll asked what the "yanks" (small "y") did for "them" (whoever "us" is). No reference to the quasi-derogatory term for Emperor Bush's subjects, this - just the normal word. To which the answer therefore has to be:

Given enough yanks you could achieve nirvana. Care is needed however to avoid yanking it off its root.

If not for the US, all of Europe ~ including the "British Isles" ~ might well be goosestepping and speaking German today.

I like GUEST,heric's answer better, though, listing all those blues artists. I might add a subsequent generation of R&B/RnR names without whose influence there would have been no Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Who, etc.
