Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 22 Nov 02 - 02:35 PM Well said Clinton. GUESTs such as myself are continually blamed for all that is wrong here. The real truth is that certain members generate most of the crap. The 'if you don't like it, don't read it' mentality becomes flawed when 90% of the posts have become drivel and in-jokes. When katlaughing and catspaw start complaining about BS, something must be very wrong |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 22 Nov 02 - 02:53 PM Ohhh... amerigin... what a brilliant, scathing, school yard wit you have... Don't save your A material for me like that... spread it around eh... Is "Nanny-Nanny-Boo-Boo" part of your repertoire as well? |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: Amergin Date: 22 Nov 02 - 03:06 PM youre a fucking idiot clinton....not worth the very air you breathe....certainly not worth my time....can tell ya one thing...i wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.... |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: greg stephens Date: 22 Nov 02 - 03:11 PM Max has clearly created a wonderful environment for people to air their differences in a mutually respectful fashion. ( i make this posting in the full knowledge that it will look rather mysterious when the previous posting is removed by our benevolent censors).
I admit I did almost add an apostrophe and make it "You're a fucking idiot, Clinton"... -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 22 Nov 02 - 03:32 PM What's your problem, Amergin? You're making a total fool of yourself, so do shut up |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST,Miss Manners Date: 22 Nov 02 - 04:27 PM Max has clearly created a wonderful environment for people to air their differences in a mutually respectful fashion. Oh, that that would be so. Unfortunately, Mudcat members like Clinton Hammond and Amergrin sully Max's wonderful enviornment with their childish, spiteful bickering. Of course, the Mudcat Inner Clique would have you believe that the poisonous enviornment that Mudcat has become is because people like me post as guests. However, Clinton Hammond and Amerigrin prove that there are no guests as disruptive as Mudcat members. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST,What I See Date: 22 Nov 02 - 05:15 PM From What I see, the only people acting like trolls in this thread are certain Mudcat members. We guests have been playing nice. WYSIWYG accuses the guest who started this thread as being a troll. There's nothing trolling about it. It calls Mudcat a "beautiful place." I think WYSIWYG needs to get a grip, a life, or both. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Nov 02 - 05:43 PM How many anonymous GUESTS does it take to change a light bulb? Noone can ever tell, obviously. "We guests" implies there is more than one, I suppose. Still that doesn't matter - the fact remains that this is the only site like this I've come across which does generate a genuine sense of a kind of community. The quarrelsome side of that is inevitable. If you ever come across a place where everybody smiles all the time, be very worried. There must be something very odd going on. And the Mudcat isn't like that. But at the same time, it does keep on a level balance over time, and difficult issues can get talked about by people who disagree pretty sharply, in a way that is pretty unusual, either on the net or out in the wide world. And we always get back to the songs and the music, sooner or later, and that's at the heart of it all. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST,another one. Date: 22 Nov 02 - 05:45 PM Seems a shame that such a valuable music resource should have deteriorated to this. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: greg stephens Date: 22 Nov 02 - 07:29 PM Iraq is good, Jews are good, Ireland or Celtic are always classic, Nic Jones and Dave Bulmer are nearly unbeatable, but youve got to face it, threads about MAX and MUDCAT really get the dukes up. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: SINSULL Date: 22 Nov 02 - 08:32 PM God Damn IT! Do not make me pull this car off the road and give you all a smack! Now behave! Or else! I was always too chicken to find out what "else" was in store for us. As to the original question: Max enabled me to change my entire life and I will always be grateful. SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: greg stephens Date: 22 Nov 02 - 08:47 PM Well, Mudcat is a recent hobby of mine, but I would put Max's creation behind sex, music, and beer, but ahead of drugs, rugby football, long-jumping, politics, pickles and jam-making, cactuses, archery, and maybe level with pub-quizzes. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 22 Nov 02 - 09:28 PM Level with pub quizzes? LEVEL WITH PUB QUIZZES? Mudcat doesn't even come close. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: Bert Date: 23 Nov 02 - 01:36 AM Hey McGrath, there is only one anonymous guest. She just pretends to be more than one. Oh yes, and it was through Max that I was able to get to meet the most beautiful SINSUL. Unfortunately I have this habit of partially falling in love with every Mudcat woman I meet, so kat and Wysi, and Moonbaby and Harpy and SharonA and Dani, Annamill, and, and, and... fortunately for all of you, Tree won't let me stray. Ah well. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: Hrothgar Date: 23 Nov 02 - 08:24 PM Not ahead of rugby, Greg? Especially while the Poms are actually winning at something! Just lost another wicket. Might not last until lunch ..... |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: CarolC Date: 23 Nov 02 - 08:44 PM Completely changed the landscape of my life, very much for the better. As I type, I'm sitting (in my livingroom) a few feet from a circle of guitarists from all over the US (some of them easily professonal caliber) playing all kinds of really great music and sometimes singing. One of them is my husband who I met here in the Mudcat, two of the others are Mudcat members. We're all here enjoying beautiful weather in a beautiful part of the US where I would never have envisioned myself living two and a half years ago before I joined the Mudcat. Check it out... MonkeyJam! |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 23 Nov 02 - 09:36 PM No, Carol. You did it, not Max. He just made it a little easier. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: CarolC Date: 24 Nov 02 - 12:21 AM Max made this magic playground where impossible things happen. All I did was recognise it for what it is, and enjoy myself here as much as I possibly could. Which is to say a hell of a lot. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: saulgoldie Date: 24 Nov 02 - 01:39 PM I salute him for his thoughful energy and vision in creating and maintaining this place for us to learn from each other about the folk music the love of which brings us together, and to "ocassionally" discuss other things. I mean, how long can one really just "talk folk" with no break??!! It is sooooo boring, you know. (And while I may understand and even endorse some of the anger expressed here, I will "take it outside" if I feel the irrestible urge to lay deeply into someone. Really, do you know how difficult it is to effectively clean up all those blood stains? And you know who will have to do it, too!) |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: Bill D Date: 24 Nov 02 - 04:15 PM true 'anger' with a sane focus, I can understand. Anonymous trolling and sniping and nit-picking from people who make being a malcontent a major hobby, I cannot. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: SINSULL Date: 24 Nov 02 - 05:33 PM Oh Bert! You mean I finally have a groupie of my own? (aside from Tree, I mean...) |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 25 Nov 02 - 08:26 AM CarolC ... not to be overly critical, but there's just a slight problem I see with with the MonkeyJam photo: the label covers up the guitar! We guitarists get easily offended by such oversights. ;-) Have a good day. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: breezy Date: 25 Nov 02 - 08:39 AM max for president, and thank you, for the mudcat global village. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: CarolC Date: 25 Nov 02 - 05:27 PM Yeah, I know what you mean GUEST. The thing is, MonkeyJam was a gathering of acoustic guitar enthusiasts, and the guitar in the jar is an electric. So we figured maybe we'd probably better cover up enough of it so the electric part wouldn't be quite so obvious. We really wanted a tiny acoustic guitar for the picture, but they didn't have any of that kind at Target. Just electric ones. As a guitarist, I imagine you can understand. By the way, there were a couple of beautiful hand made guitars by Georgia luthier, John Kinnaird at the Jam. I heard one of them being played and it sounded exceptional. It only costs $3,000. A steal at that price, I'd say. |
Subject: RE: BS: What has Max ever done for us? From: GUEST Date: 26 Nov 02 - 12:48 PM Thanks for the explanation and info, CarolC. That kind of consistent consideration is exactly what GUESTs and members have always gotten from you. Good to see some things never change. And regarding your post above: at $3k for a hand-made guitar, it's nice to know that acoustic players have other options in that price range besides the off-the-rack offerings of Gibson, even if they are Gibson's top of the line. But what do I know - I play mostly electric. I was just yankin' yer chain. ;-) Nothing personal. Best wishes. |
