When does the BS ever get too tawdry around here Bill? We were running a thread on farts there not too long ago and getting drunks out from under porches, which you willingly participated in. I have a theory about this place and it goes like this. This place is like High School. We have people like yourself who try to foist a sort of moral code on the rest of us even though you've been around here for a short time. If this thread had been started by one of the resident hero's like catspaw eg, then everyone would be posting with gusto just to fit in. So you take exception to my post, take a poke, because your new and you don't know me, so you have a go. There's no nice way to say "fuck you Bill", so I won't try.

I suppose Michael Jackson is a musician. I've never been a big fan of his music. I much prefer the older version of "Rockin Robin". But since he is a musician, I suppose somebody should have said something about him on mudcat.
Victoria's Secret is bringing out a CD of Sting's greatest love songs, which strikes me as very odd indeed.

Bill if the title of a thread is not to one's taste - it begs the question why open it? Was it just to enable youself to be further offended?

Of course the answer is to enable you to take part in the Mudcat Correctness game of telling other posters what they are allowed to do or rather what they are not allowed to do. Can we just ignore what is not to our taste and encourage each other to mind our own business?

For even this thread had appeared in the 'second division' - it would not prevent you from still passing judgement on what you imagined was contained there - even when you are not opening BS threads to know. But passing judgement on what others post is one thing - expecting editing action based on that to take place - is quite another. Sadly this does appear to have become the only game in town for many Mudcatters.

Micheal Jackson was and should be recognised as a brilliant entertainer.Maybe the best weve seen...and I include Davis, Sinatra et all,(as Little Hawk would say).   However he is now obviously mad and as such it does us no credit to indulge in a "feeding frenzy"
I dont think he's an evil man and deserves ,if not our sympathy, then a modicum of understanding.Lets leave this sorry mess to the authorities.
Lady Jean...I was interested in your remark, about Stings songs being recorded by victorias secret?? Could you please explain what you meant by this, as I am a big fan of Stings writing, and would even class it as Folk music.   His love songs in particular are excellent , and his social comment ,in my opinion, equals Macoll
       Best Wishes Ake

" people like yourself who try to foist a sort of moral code on the rest of us even though you've been around here for a short time"

short time, Den? Like 7 years? And I'm not "foisting" ANY code on anyone, just commenting on the value of tabloid journalism. I certainly have no control over what you post, and would have shrugged and ignored the rest if you hadn't gotten so incensed(...and ask catspaw if I haven't once or twice mentioned to HIM that he was going beyond the pale)..*grin*..but he took it with a grain of salt and a sense of humor.

tsk, Shambles..."Was it just to enable youself to be further offended?
...Of course the answer is..." ...posing rhetorical questions which you then answer to suit your mood and define MY character is a bit extreme for my sin of making a short, low key remark, doncha think?...and BTW.."expecting editing action based..." ?? I don't believe I said ANYTHING suggesting that I was expecting 'editing action'....

I expressed a brief, passing opinion...and thanks to Den & you, I get to enlarge & expand on it! Such a deal!

So...Michael Jackson is on the front page of the Washington Post, on every radio and TV program I turn on, but in MUDCAT, we get the image of him "dropping the soap and hitting the high notes"...

well...you are, of course, correct, Shambles...I didn't 'need' to open the thread- I just had an overwhelming urge (which I usually resist in these matters) to comment on the tendancy for some to post to Mudcat breaking news of little relevance. mea culpa2
.....and now that we have all had this genteel exchange of viewpoints, I do believe I shall take your advice and NOT open the thread further. I can, of course, be reached by PM if anyone just has to continue the discussion.

(Oh...I also didn't vote on the MSNBC online poll yesterday on the burning question, "Do you think Michael Jackson is guilty of molesting children?")

This morning a local news reporter was down at the Waffle House, of all places, asking people what they thought about these latest accusations. The young man she talked to said he thought Jackson was a good dancer, but he'd been doing thing he ought not to have, and finished his statement with these immortal words:

"He loony."

Now, about Victoria's Secret. Sting performed on the fashion show - I didn't see it, but did see the commercials. Also for a limited time when you make a purchase at VS, you'll get a free Sting CD.

I used to like Victoria's Secret, but their models are too skinny (pencils with boobs, Mister calls them), and their salespeople are extremely annoying. Now I buy from Fredericks.

As Bill is not going to comment here further or even open this thread again - should anyone wish to read Bill's posts on the thread subject - rather than his comments on on the tendancy for some to post to Mudcat breaking news of little relevance you can find these in the thread that I linked to earlier. These comments were posted in the days when appently he could not control his urges any better than he can now - but possibly thought that the company he was posting with was better or maybe that the breaking news about MJ had more relevance then?

Actually, anyone looking at Michael Jackson, or following his behaviour has probably figured out that this is one lonely, probably unhappy boy-in-a-man's body who has never properly grown up. I feel terribly sorry for him.

That being said, if he has molested children, throw him overboard.

But given the strangeness of this man, I can't help but wonder if he is really a sort of unworldly innocent, who may well sleep with children in his bed and no sex at all. He calls his ranch "Neverland," after all. Stranger things have happened throughout history. If this is the case, he has put himself at terrible risk of just the kind of thing that is happening to him now.

But as I said before, if he is guilty, throw away the key.

You also have to wonder what kind of parent puts their child together with a man who has previously been accused.

I agree with pdc. The last little boy who accused MJ of molesting him walked away extremely wealthy. So what sort of a parent puts his or her child in the bedroom of an accused pedophile? One who plans to walk away wealthy? One who is enamored of superstars at any cost? One who is painfully naive? I am not sure but I believe the parents here are criminally liable for their son's molestation, assuming the story proves true. What the hell were they thinking?

Lady Jean -- MJ is NOT a musician, never was. He's a washed-up pop star has-been who used to appeal in the 1980s to the same demographic that now idolizes Britney Spears.

pdc -- good analysis about MJ having "never properly grown up". He and his siblings were thrust into the spotlight by their father (allegations of abuse abound) when he was only 5 or 6, and he was denied a real childhood by the crippling demands of fame and wealth.

Now he's obviously gone insane (just look at his face, and his claim of not having had any "work done"). I hope he gets some help, and I hope he'll disappear from public view for good.

Cheers,
Michael

It was more than a bit sad for all concerned that the original case did not come to court. It must be hoped this time a court will now be able to hear all the evidence and finally decide the issues.

If he is found not-guilty - one can only hope that he will be advised to change some of his activities with other peoples's children - so as not to place himself at risk again.

Whatever the court outcome - we can only hope that those who are paid and entrusted with looking after his own children - do the best job they can.

Dear Shambles, I agree with every word of your post above.

The law concerning 'hearsay' evidence was changed in California in direct reaction to the case brought against Michael Jackson in 1993-1994 (and subsequently dismissed). Because of the civil case being settled by a multi-million dollar settlement between Jackson and the family of his accuser (a male below the age of 14), the law in California was changed so that any statement given to any person under state law who is compelled to report any statement of child abuse (i.e., doctors, nurses, teachers, emergency medical technicians, lawyers, judges, officers of the court, social workers, parents, child care givers) can be given in evidence in lieu of courtroom testimony and cannot be recanted by the juvenile subsequent to a case filed in criminal or civil court.

Accordingly, the courtroom testimony of the juvenile witness and/or victim of abuse cannot be compelled. However, any statement given to any legally obliged reporter to the court cannot be recanted, and can be entered into evidence in lieu of courtroom testimony. This is a very important element of the present situation in which Mr. Jackson finds himself.

I would place my money on Mr. Jackson fleeing jurisdiction, albeit that he has surrendered his passport to the Santa Barbara authorities. He has access to funds that would 'grease the wheels' of many an off-shore jurisdiction -- whether he is actually guilty or not.

I find it extremely sad that any human being could be so excluded from reality -- abetted by his own family, friends and employees -- that his kind of extreme behaviour could be intentionally ignored and, by omission of intervention, encouraged. He so obviously has an emotional and/or physiological disfunction that is screaming for intervention and treatment.

It is sad that such dysfunction and/or mental disease has taken so long, and most likely, has enveloped so many victims, until it is has come to such a public light. If children have been molested, the full extent of the law MUST be applied. If not, this man must be helped with all speed.

-- Áine

I agree with Sinsull, that any parent who knowingly lets their child visit Neverland with the previous allegations in place who then excepts to GET MONEY as the result of a lawsuit involving their children being victimized by an accused pedophile (though he was ever convicted of the crime), is every bit as horrible (and actualy moreso) then an actual pedophile. Pedophiles are sick and need help. Calculating, greedy parents who willfuly place their children in harm's way (at the very least subjecting them to psychological trauma)   in   order to profit or get media attention are the lowest of the low. What a pig-trough of a nation we have become.

I agree the guy is weird and his   behavior troubling, but I do think his performing and songs has been loved by millions, and I do pity him; what sort of demons of self-loathing drive a man to do what he's done to himself? He has given a lot of his money to help others, and not many other wealthy stars have done this.

I agree it may be possible he has very circumspect sexuality and that sharing his bed with children may be some weird Peter Pan neurosis that is entirely innocent, in his mind. But the guy is, again, weird, and it would be impossible for any child visiting his ranch not to have heard about the previous acusations. Again: what are the parents thinking?????

Does no one claim responsibility for their own actions anymore???? Why is every horrific occurrence in our country, from Columbine to 9-11, a chance for people to make money?

Peg:

The average individual takes enough buffets and bruises from large organized groups of people with large bankrolls (companies, utilities, political parties, and twenty kinds of gummints) that to be able to strike back at someone with deep pockets for putting bad vibes into the world is extraordinarily tempting.

But all I have heard about is an accusation. Is there other evidence being offered beyond an accusation? As I recall, accusations are not evidence of guilt.

I agree Amos, accusations are not evidence...but it strikes me that these parents somehow WANTED something to happen...and there is a precedent with the previous civil suit and huge settlement....

Peg-- you're blaming the victims and demonizing their parents--which is, sadly enough, a fairly standard response when child abuse allegations come up--And when you bring up his good works and popularity as a defense, you are playing right into the abusers hands, because many child molesters rely on their public reputations for charity and good works as a cover for their despicable behavior--

As to those who invoke "innocent until proven guilty" and who think that this wouldn't be happening to Jackson if he weren't a celebrity--perhaps you are not aware that teachers, health and mental health caregivers and other professionals who work with children are require to report anything that indicates the possibility of child abuse--and that child welfare authorities are required to fully investigate all allegations--

Even with that, pedophiles generally have assaulted many, many, children before their activities are initially reported, and all to often, even then they avoid prosecution because so many are willing to "give them the benefit of the doubt"--

Consider Amergin's take on this situation, and then consider that Amergin actually has the right to vote. Wow.

I do not like those who abuse children, sexually or otherwise. My own punishments for them would be considered cruel and unusual and they are quite gruesome, so I shan't describe them here -- suffice to say that they are both imaginative and very old and do not attack the genitals.

I also think that no one should be punished unless they are proven guilty, not by public opinion but by a duly constituted court of law. If there is insanity, then let it be treated or, if not treatable, the convicted can be locked away from society.

If there is no insanity, the convicted should be punished as the law prescribes. Not me, the law. But if Michael Jackson is found guilty and is sentenced to prison, can anyone seriously believe that he won't suffer there?

And I don't condone, or even desire, those sentenced to prison to suffer beyond what the courts sentence them to. My last sentence is an acknowledgement of prison realities.

Wow. Talk about over-reactions. Paedophilia, Amergin, is not a capital offense. Child molestation, whether the child is four years old or 14 is detestable. Once found guilty of it, I think the book should be thrown at the perpetrator but that doesn't include execution or lynching, for that matter.

There is the woman down in Covington, Kentucky, who shot the man who had molested her young son "in the groin" with a .357 magnum. The prosecutor wants to prosecute, the woman says it was justifiable, and it's felt that there is no jury in the State that would convict her.

That is, the man molested her son. She shot the molester. The man did not molest her son in the groin with a .357.

In some ways, I agree with Peg...what were these parents thinking when they allowed their children to have sleep overs with him????

jOhn, what's wrong with his face is too much and some bungled plastic surgery.

It is probably the same thing that is wrong with the so-called and absentee 'mothers' of MJ's own poor children.

- $$$$$$$$$$$$.

The same thing that is wrong with all the friends and paid hangers-on who insist that we have to "know Michael" in order to understand why they think it safe for this particular 40 year-old man to share his bed with other people's children, where for everyone else it would not be accepted - even if we did 'know' them.

And why these charges were not dealt with by the courts when they were first made - $$$$$$$$$$$$$ again.

LOS ANGELES - Child welfare investigators earlier this year found there was no basis for allegations that Michael Jackson had abused the boy now accusing him of molestation, according to a confidential memo
.

And the beat goes on.
