When I retired from the PO in '97, a lot of parcel post still went by train. "Mail Trains", cars in which mail is sorted en route, are long gone.

Mail Trains were replaced by 'Hy-Po's' (Semi vans in which mail was sorted en route - Highway Post Offices). They're defunct, too.
