My experience growing up in New England (long before I even thought the THOUGHT of a wrinkled ass) is that cold mornings ADD wrinkles in certain areas, Mike. I don't think there is a more wrinkled surface known to man or beast than the flesh of a scrotum exposed to -20 degree weather on a winter morning when the furnace has failed. That's an opinion, though, not a scientific fact!! :)

Nothing beats the recouperative power of that first breath of -40 degree air on a cold, dark morning on the tundra, Kendall. Also, I can tell you from experience that a truly COLD morning will do wonders for the wrinkles in your ass as well. Keep the good news coming, Captain.

It's not very well known, but the perfect atmospheric environment for healing vocal cords following laser surgery happens to be exactly the one that results from drinking a very large Mai Tai while inhaling ocean spray and balmy trade winds.

We are not out of the woods yet, but we can see the meadow. Final word will come from Dr. Shapshay on Thursday in Boston, but so far the prognosis looks pretty good. Guarded optomism for now.

I've just heard from Kendall that the cancer hasn't grown or spread and that the doctor thinks that it can be dealt with by way of laser surgery. He will have to see the specialist in Boston on Thursday to confirm that he is suitable for laser treatment but at least the cancer is still contained.

Great relief all round I think but I will be glad when I can join him in Maine - he gets up to too much trouble left on his own! (Only joking Kendall!)

It is very hard to be threatened with loss of a part of yourself, especially something that you've identified yourself by and with for so many years. Nothing wrong with taking the hit, feeling the pain, going down into dispair...it's all there and has to be dealt with. Know this, too: my wife has had one functioning vocal cord since she was 17. Thyroid cancer; the surgery froze one and nicked the one that's left. She can't shout and sings only in church (and admits that she doesn't do it very well). BUT!! You annoy her and she can blister the tar off a rope. She's going on 43 or 44 years cured of cancer. If she can do it, so can you. She says that she never considered any other option than complete cure, then or now.
