I will definitely be there this year. Wakana and I will be coming in from Guam by way of Japan and England. I can't wait to meet all my Mudcat friends (or should I say family?).

John & Skarpi, the best thing to do from there is to have some FSGW person pick you up at the airport, take you home, feed you, spend half the night chatting, provide a place to sleep for the night and drive you to the Getaway on Friday.

This will happen, if you wish it. It may be too early to set up the details, (or maybe not). Later I think we should have a thread on Getaway Travel Logistics so's we can keep track of who-needs-what. There may be non-Mudcat folks who'd love to help out, too.

That's what we did when 24 members of the Shellback Chorus arrived here needing sleeping gear & transportation for the Getaway.

If for some reason you don't want to do that we'll help you figure out what you need but ... the FSGW is, always has been, extremely hospitable to visiting musicians.

Wow! Is this a record? 355 posting in only 42 days! And the event is still 7+ months away!
I would love to make it this year (since I had such a great time in 2003), particularly as several Mudcatter friends are going over from the UK. But two trips to China in July & September mean that its just not possible. But my eyes are set on 2006!

No i am on a alchol or something like that , but
ever since I came from N-Ireland I just long for an peace and
quiet the people there are so easy and slow and the time is
on normal scan.
I liked it alot I felt like home , I will go there again
to The Mountains of Morne and stay there under the trees
like I did last time.

SINSULL, Jacqui and I spent some time planning, no perhaps plotting, various possible senarios and secret plans for Getaway this weekend. Now the weekend isn't nearly long enough for us to "honor" all of the Mudcat Men, so we are going to have to work on a three to five year plan and let a few of you savor the anticipation.

Kendall just blushed and shook his head.... I can't wait.... Now I just have a few more months to find just the right....Never mind.

Hmmm, just realized that I'm supposed to head for Europe very shortly after the Getaway. This could stretch the finances a bit, the tickets are one thing, the self employed vacation pay (0) is quite another. This one may be the one I have to miss. BOTHER!

we have always had folks from 'out of town', some of whom we only see once a year or so...this is just extra. As long as it is treated as a way to share music, and doesn't become just a Mudcat 'happening', it will be fine. (If you say 'hello', and sing with us, you ARE part of the crowd pretty fast! *grin*)...but we have FSGW members who have never seen Mudcat (or even a computer) and might need reassurance. So far, it has been 97.0327% positive, and locals look forward to neat new music and people. (as you may have noticed, we try to mix the cabin assignments to increase interaction and 'awareness' *smile*)

As the general folkie population ages and scatters, this sort of thing may be the glue that allows an event like the Getaway to happen on such a scale. The worst 'problem' we have right now is that there is so much talent and ideas that it is impossible to have EVERYONE who is qualified and willing leading workshops and doing concerts! (such a problem to have, huh?)

I, personally, think that an extra day would be nice...like arriving Thursday night and having Friday be an 'unstructured' day for random singing and conviviality. That is a vague, possible thing for sometime, but it obviously would cost more and not everyone could get the time off work, etc...who knows what might happen if this grows and reaches critical mass in attendence! Wow.......

So Baltimore is the closest airport? I will be flying in from Las vegas, and my schedule is pretty flexible. I could be adaptable. I don't drive, and I'd certainly need a ride from the airport.
