Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ferrara Date: 02 Mar 05 - 09:10 PM John & Skarpi, the best thing to do from there is to have some FSGW person pick you up at the airport, take you home, feed you, spend half the night chatting, provide a place to sleep for the night and drive you to the Getaway on Friday. This will happen, if you wish it. It may be too early to set up the details, (or maybe not). Later I think we should have a thread on Getaway Travel Logistics so's we can keep track of who-needs-what. There may be non-Mudcat folks who'd love to help out, too. That's what we did when 24 members of the Shellback Chorus arrived here needing sleeping gear & transportation for the Getaway. If for some reason you don't want to do that we'll help you figure out what you need but ... the FSGW is, always has been, extremely hospitable to visiting musicians. Rita F |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Dani Date: 02 Mar 05 - 03:14 PM I'm tempted to come up earlier than ever this year and stretch out the weekend with the early-bird travellers! Never fear about finding rides and blankets, gentlemen. We'll make sure you get where you're going and are warm and comfy while you're there. All you have to do is show up, sing, and play. Dani |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: alanww Date: 02 Mar 05 - 12:54 PM Wow! Is this a record? 355 posting in only 42 days! And the event is still 7+ months away! I would love to make it this year (since I had such a great time in 2003), particularly as several Mudcatter friends are going over from the UK. But two trips to China in July & September mean that its just not possible. But my eyes are set on 2006! Have a great time ... Micca, CatsPHiddle, Leadfingers, SussexCarole, Crane Driver, Giok, Skipjack, BillSables, El Greko & Vanessa etc - and, of course, everyone else! "I thought I heard the old man say ..!" Alan |

Life In Iceland is so fast that one week goes by on one day It´s nearly christmastime soon ????? Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Susan A-R Date: 01 Mar 05 - 10:48 PM Pauline L, so will my fiddle, and I must keep her happy. Dani, you have the restaurant scene to a Tee, I should come, just so I can talk with you about how to withdraw (restaurant owners anonymous?) And then there are the plots . . . Who's bringing the silk rope, that's what I wannna know. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Dani Date: 28 Feb 05 - 06:26 PM Susan, as I recall you are a restaurant person. Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Susan A-R Date: 28 Feb 05 - 06:13 PM Right! Right! I just have to keep my priorities straight Sinsull, I know, what was I thinking of? Maybe the sleep deprivation will help me with the time change. When's the next Song circle? I'm hanging onto that last weekend in March for a trip to the Portsmouth/Portland area with my friend Beth, although I haven't heard from her recently . . . Might work, and then I can talk details for the fiendish plots. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: skarpi Date: 28 Feb 05 - 04:16 PM Well all , I pay the ticket tomorrow so I´ll be coming on the 13th along with Giok from Scotland. So there will be two vikings coming at the same time. I don´t know about my band yet but i am trying to get some money here at home so I can bring them with us. I hope I will know very soon. Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Tinker Date: 28 Feb 05 - 12:45 PM SINSULL, Jacqui and I spent some time planning, no perhaps plotting, various possible senarios and secret plans for Getaway this weekend. Now the weekend isn't nearly long enough for us to "honor" all of the Mudcat Men, so we are going to have to work on a three to five year plan and let a few of you savor the anticipation. Kendall just blushed and shook his head.... I can't wait.... Now I just have a few more months to find just the right....Never mind. Tinker |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: SINSULL Date: 27 Feb 05 - 08:56 PM Susan - No! No! No! You are a definite for the Ladies Event. Deserters will be hunted down and punished severely. The European contingent is on alert to seek out all female fiddlers with sly grins and charming dispositions and hold them for questioning. Any chance of your making it to the next song circle? SINS |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Susan A-R Date: 27 Feb 05 - 07:04 PM Hmmm, just realized that I'm supposed to head for Europe very shortly after the Getaway. This could stretch the finances a bit, the tickets are one thing, the self employed vacation pay (0) is quite another. This one may be the one I have to miss. BOTHER! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: GUEST Date: 27 Feb 05 - 06:28 PM and we have one other regular Mudcatter/filker who comes (Gorgeous Gary)...or two, if you add his newish wife (and we do, though I don't think she posts) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Big Mick Date: 27 Feb 05 - 08:33 AM Then you will be a very happy Mudcatter, Teresa. It is the perfect mix of structured workshops, and freewheeling jams. This is going to be wonderful. Mick |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Bill D Date: 26 Feb 05 - 03:07 PM ".I hope all the wonderful FSGW folks don't mind the Invasion of the Mudcatters......" we have always had folks from 'out of town', some of whom we only see once a year or so...this is just extra. As long as it is treated as a way to share music, and doesn't become just a Mudcat 'happening', it will be fine. (If you say 'hello', and sing with us, you ARE part of the crowd pretty fast! *grin*)...but we have FSGW members who have never seen Mudcat (or even a computer) and might need reassurance. So far, it has been 97.0327% positive, and locals look forward to neat new music and people. (as you may have noticed, we try to mix the cabin assignments to increase interaction and 'awareness' *smile*) As the general folkie population ages and scatters, this sort of thing may be the glue that allows an event like the Getaway to happen on such a scale. The worst 'problem' we have right now is that there is so much talent and ideas that it is impossible to have EVERYONE who is qualified and willing leading workshops and doing concerts! (such a problem to have, huh?) I, personally, think that an extra day would be nice...like arriving Thursday night and having Friday be an 'unstructured' day for random singing and conviviality. That is a vague, possible thing for sometime, but it obviously would cost more and not everyone could get the time off work, etc...who knows what might happen if this grows and reaches critical mass in attendence! Wow....... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Teresa Date: 26 Feb 05 - 02:39 PM So Baltimore is the closest airport? I will be flying in from Las vegas, and my schedule is pretty flexible. I could be adaptable. I don't drive, and I'd certainly need a ride from the airport. Teresa |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: KT Date: 26 Feb 05 - 01:50 PM Hey Mick. You offered a ride to Ebbie and me a while back. Is the offer still good now that you've moved to NJ or should we make other arrangements? WOW!! That's a huge change for you!! Hope you're settling in and enjoying. How wonderful to take on such a new adventure. Less than 8 months to go.....I hope all the wonderful FSGW folks don't mind the Invasion of the Mudcatters....... KT |
