Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: Bugsy Date: 13 Jul 00 - 01:04 AM I've just sent an email to Derek, telling him about Mudcat and asking if he'd like to come on and post a comment himself. Hope he does. CHeers Bugsy |
Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: Lanfranc Date: 11 Jul 00 - 06:47 PM One of my heroes, too, even if he can be a little curmudgeonly when roused! The clouds have parted, briefly, and the name "Miles Wootton" appeared in a pillar of flame as the writer of "Portuguee". Could just be an old man's imagination, or a slightly soggy cigar, but someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong. |
Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: GUEST,alan whittle Date: 11 Jul 00 - 03:32 PM saw the brimstone name and just felt it necessary to say. I was here. He's my hero. |
Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: Bugsy Date: 10 Jul 00 - 08:49 PM I'm not sure who wrote it, it wasn't written by Derek. I got a letter from him the other week saying that he is as busy as ever and that he and Lady Brimstone are both in the best of health. If any of you UK 'Catters get to see him in the near future, Please tell him that Peter from Perth Sends his regards. Cheers All,

Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: Lanfranc Date: 10 Jul 00 - 06:21 PM A correction/variation th "She Loved a Portugee" above. Verse 2. When I thought of the two of them, I wanted to run amuck So I followed them to a public house that was called the Dog and Duck They was sitting in the public bar, kissing and holding hands And he was a seducing of her with pints of Babycham is how I remember it, and how I sing it to this day. I'm pretty sure Derek didn't write this one, but I'm damned if I can remember who did. I've known Derek for years, and helped him a few years back to convert the initial draft of his autobiography from WordStar to Word! Needless to say I read it, and, even in it's original form it was hilarious, poignant and fascinating all at once. Buy it via his website as above and give yourself a treat - makes a change from Harry Potter. |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: SHE LOVED A PORTUGUESE^^ From: GUEST Date: 09 Jul 00 - 05:30 AM I have no idea if Derek wrote this but he sang it on a record I had many years ago. SHE LOVED A PORTUGUESE C Dm G7 F G7 C
One night I saw them together and I opened my mouth to speak,
He was a nasty piece of work. Gonzales was his name,
So I followed him home to his lodgings, which was in Millwall or thereabouts,
Now when she heard what I had done, she made my life a hell,

Subject: RE: Derek Brimstone songs From: katlaughing Date: 04 Jul 00 - 05:57 AM Thanks, Bugsy! I'll have to tell bflat, over on his Divorce thread, to take a look at this one. I missed some of the words when you sang it...my HearMe has been scratchy ever since the new download. Both of them were really beautiful songs...nice of you to share them so ably. kat |
Subject: Lyr Add: ALL THOSE SONGS (Derek Brimstone)^^ From: Bugsy Date: 04 Jul 00 - 02:02 AM I sang a couple of songs by UK singer/songwriter Derek Brimstone, on hearme today and some of those there wanted the lyrics. Here's the lyrics to "All Those Songs", I'll post the lyrics to the other one "We Both Had A Very Good Time" soon. There's a verse I can't quite remember.
ALL THOSE SONGS
All those promises, did we mean them.
But today the sun is shining down.
Only to remember, all those daytimes spent in walking.
Goodbye Josephine, farewell lady of my life.
Also, here's Derek's Website. Derek Brimstone CHeers Bugsy |
