Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fränkische Krankmeldung (The Sick Note) From: GUEST,jens connike Date: 16 Sep 11 - 03:42 PM The Frankenbarde is in reality an airline pilot, real name Martin O'Connor. On the CD featuring The Fränkish Krankmeldung he thanks Pat Cooksey for permission to use the song. As the Franconian dialect is not widely understood in the rest of Germany it's amazing that well over 200,000 people have played it on Youtube. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fränkische Krankmeldung (The Sick Note) From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Sep 11 - 01:49 PM Here's the German singer's website: http://www.frankenbarde.de/. He seems to specialize in Frankish/Franconian(?) humorous songs. I can't tell whether he is singing in dialect, but I assume he does, because part of his web site is written in a dialect for which he provides a German translation. The web site contains links to the YouTube video of FRÄNKISCHE KRANKMELDUNG (Frankish Sick Leave) as well as other videos and audio files, but I couldn't find any lyrics. I also couldn't find any mention of Pat Crooksey. I also couldn't find the singer's real name. He seems to only call himself Frankenbarde—Bard of the Franks—but I may have overlooked something. |
Subject: RE: fränkish krankenmeldung, youtube, know it From: GUEST,jens connike. Date: 28 Aug 09 - 06:14 PM Franconia is a large part of Bavaria in Germany, the dialect they speak, especially outside the big cities, is hard for a German to understand. I have heard several versions of this song in various German regional translations, also one from Holland but I must say as a native of Nuremberg where Pat Cooksey lives, this version to us is brilliant, not a direct translation, I know Pat had an input into this version. After they sung it last week Pat said, after the applause died down, now you know what I've been singing about all these years, simply proves that a great song is funny in any language. |
Subject: RE: fränkish krankenmeldung, youtube, know it From: GUEST,Denny. Date: 27 Aug 09 - 07:30 PM Heard it on the radio only a few minutes ago, Frankish is a dialect only used in this region, funniest thing I ever heard and I know well Pat's version, the translater, Frankenbarde, gives Pat full credit. |
Subject: RE: fränkish krankenmeldung, youtube, know it From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Aug 09 - 07:15 PM I think the correct title is Fränkische Krankmeldung. Can anybody post the lyrics? Pat himself posted correct English lyrics in another thread, but he hasn't been around Mudcat lately. I've added crosslinks for threads on the English version of this song. -Joe Offer- |

Date: 27 Aug 09 - 07:06 PM Huge hit in Franconia, in Germany, brilliant translation of the sick note, originally written by Pat Cooksey,I saw Pat back the translater last week on a festival in Bayreuth, it really brought the house down. |
