Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Fibula Mattock's Secret Santa Date: 28 Oct 01 - 12:23 AM Here's a site for an archaeologist. Know of any, Fibula? Another hint: I'm always blue (true blue), but seldom weep. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fibula Mattock Date: 28 Oct 01 - 09:04 AM Indeed I do, my Secret Santa, but that's more a site for a palaeoentologist! I loved the dino background though... That's a hint? I never was any good at bloody cryptic crosswords. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Fibula Mattock's Secret Santa Date: 28 Oct 01 - 09:56 AM Hello again Fibula, I think my bandwidth problems were just the need to defrag. Things are looking better now. I hope you like paleontology and geology also. I took everyone's advice and mailed early. Another hint: I live in a Commonwealth.

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Helen Date: 28 Oct 01 - 08:16 PM I wish I knew how to change my cookie, but oh well.....I have the first part of my Santee's gift and I will have the second part later today. Then I will wrap it securely and post it off, and the hint is that my Santee lives in a different country to me. That's no hint at all because there are only 2 of us in Oz who are in the Secret Santa thing-y. Hints: part 1 fits the the Santee's colour choices beautifully, and I like it so much I wish I could keep it. Part 2 sort of fits another of my Santee's hints, but it is one of the best things created in Oz that I know of. I couldn't live without out it. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SINSULL Date: 28 Oct 01 - 08:31 PM without out it? Is that a hint? |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 29 Oct 01 - 04:17 AM hello my secret santa... Sorry to make you blush! Now, as it seems that it is better to open my pressie early, I am worrying about the, they would prefer it bit... I hope it's not your elves that you have sent me, as the last time you told me they were being rather productive in the wink wink nudge nudge department. I hope who ever they is wil behave, I often have 6yr old neice to visit, and the explanations could get just a little bit awkward... I've been a little quiet as went cliff walking in North Cornwall for the weekend. WHAT an experience THAT was. All the way round I lusted after a pint of cider. And got to our destination pub (all our walks have destination pubs) and by 5pm was rather merry... Looking forward to my gift... Thanks E :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 29 Oct 01 - 10:32 AM I have not guessed yet... just lately they have put on a once a week stage coach from Heathrow to Wales, but it's run by a load of threadbare, ready for the old mules home team of four rusty old looking Welsh cobs... (that's a breed of horse). Which of course gives the donkeys a day or two off as they only run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Stage Coach runs on High Days and holidays... oooo can't wait!

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Bat Goddess Date: 30 Oct 01 - 10:01 AM Sorry, Santa Squid! I've not been spending a lot of time on-line lately for various reasons, even after Jeri started teasing me about her above posts. Ah, yes, I have, ah, "eccentric" tastes. Our house, an owner-built post and beam cape on 33 acres of treed and rocked hillside, is decorated in rubber lizards and rubber snakes, crawling up posts and draped around beams. The walls are filled with gravestone rubbings -- my life's work, pre-1825 mostly, particularly interested in typographic ligatures; how's THAT for obscure? -- maps, and deer skulls (the smaller skulls are on the shelves. I collect rubber squid, flamingoes, hippocampuses, printing paraphenalia and rubberstamps. (I used to have a business called The Rubbersmith, specializing in folk music, Thomas Edison, and gravestone rubberstamps -- wanna buy a rubberstamp company? -- but it didn't leave me enough time to do the art stamping I enjoy. (Come to think of it, working for a living as a graphic designer & copyeditor doesn't leave me enough time, either.) In another lifetime, I'd be a marine archaeologist. Curmudgeon and I give each other body parts, uh, RUBBER or other artificial materials, body parts for sigificant gift giving occasions -- such as museum quality repro skulls, a rubber bag full of eyeballs, a ball made out of rubber fingers, paper clips that look like ears and pencil sharpeners in the shape of a nose, etc. (The 10 year old next door LOVES to visit!) The origins of that custom is lost in the mists of pre-history. Oh yeah, bats. We should really get a government grant as a wildlife refuge (not to mention musicians -- they're wildlife, too, eh?) cuz we've got a nursery colony of Little Brown Bats, a window grey squirrel "terrarium" and flying squirrels in the dormer (drat!). Goddesses (especially Sarasvati), maps and globes, shells and bones and skulls and rocks and crystals and just interesting old stuff. The only thing I "need" is slate cutting tools, now that I've acquired some direction, good advice and a coupla good books. Does this help? If my Secret Santa is AllanC, slate from your quarry, but postage/shipping would be mucho buckso, alas. Does this help? Jeri, Sinsull, Micca, etc. could be PMed. Linn, the Bat Goddess, Cat Goddess and Type Goddess (would you like serifs with that?) |

In fact, other than my husband who received all of the names and addresses, myself and this particular secret santa, I don't know if anyone knows anything other than the Mudcat sign-on. Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Kim C Date: 31 Oct 01 - 01:38 PM I am almost ready to send my things off to my person. I am quite excited about it. I have ribbed him a little bit. His hints were pretty good, though, so I didn't have to ask too many more ????????? I dare say my hints were pretty thorough too. But Santy, I have to tell you, I will not wait until Christmas, should my goodies come early. :-) Those of you who have shipped already - how have the mails been running so far? A friend who works for the post office told me that things usually pick up around the first of November, and surface mail overseas can take 30-60 days. Airmail doesn't take that long, but of course can cost a lot more, depending on how much your package weighs. With shipping and all I will probably go a little over the limit, but frankly I don't care. I am just enjoying the opportunity to do something fun. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fortunato Date: 01 Nov 01 - 09:45 AM To Fortunato's Secret Santa: After rereading the posts above, yours and KarenB's, I regret my guessing game post above, though I don't know if there is any connection. Mudcat and the Getaway I have just returned from have made me rather cavalier about MY identity and real and assumed name (Fortunato). I'm naturally gregarious and open, and inclined to make friends easily and keep them forever. Like my father and Will Rogers, I never met anyone I didn't like, though some more than others. But I do realize some folks would rather remain, Santas and otherwise, anonymous. Those folks are entitled to that. I meant my post to you in fun, but please understand I have no interest in guessing who ANYONE is who doesn't want to be known. Those that want me to know will tell me. No, I don't recognize any of the names you signed, I haven't a clue who you are, Mudcat name or otherwise. OK? So let's go on with the fun, Secret Santa, I'm really looking forward to the surprise. I've had a great time with my giftee, and made a friend. What could be better! Regards, Fortunato. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fibula Mattock Date: 01 Nov 01 - 09:46 AM I got my parcel today! And yeah, I opened it! Many, many thanks to my Secret Santa - Mary in KY. She has sent me a great t-shirt, an "I love fossils" sticker (I do!) an educator's book and postcards (I especially love the one of the mountains), all to do with the Falls of the Ohio State Park. It's a fantastic gift, and so lovely to see the area where another Catter lives. THANK YOU!!! Right, it's time I started posting to my Secret Santee. I'm off to a conference in S.Africa for the next 12 days, so I'll try and get it mailed before I go. Thanks again Mary! This Secret Santa thing is proving to be a great success - and a lot of fun. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SharonA Date: 01 Nov 01 - 09:56 AM Hooray!!! My Secret Santa got my "letter" (after a bit of confusion; that's okay)! I never stopped believing in you, Santa! :^) And you're "on the other side of the pond", eh? Does that make you more properly my Secret St. Nicholas? *scratching my head in bewilderment* I know you thought Bat Goddess's post was mine, but I still don't understand what "Marigolds" are or how they relate to rubber. I work for a seed company, and they have a giant inflatable sunflower in a pot (one of those god-awful things they put in front of stores to draw in customers), but no rubber marigolds. Is it slang for yellow rubber gloves? Just curious. BTW you're right; rubber's not my passion! Please give Rudolph and Olive (the other reindeer, the one who used to laugh and call him names) a tickle behind the ears for me! I'll be watching for your sleigh to land on the roof of my local post office!! Being just as good a girl as I can be (only had two beers last night!), Sharon :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Fortunato's Secret Santa.... Date: 01 Nov 01 - 10:52 AM Hey Fortunato, no worries.....I was feeling bad because I was afraid I took the secret out of it for you, I like the idea of guessing etc. And shopping.... And sending... And besides what makes you think that I'm NOT a tall, titan-haired, buxom, chorus girl type!!! *BG* Oh Lord, if you could only picture that one!! ROFLMAO!!!!!! Harry (Damn, I just can't stop!!! *BG*)

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fortunato Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:25 AM Good, Santa. Now. As for the guessing: "Ahem, Watson, attend. 1)You will note the typically American phrase in the first post: "Check out your house" 2)You will note the enjoyment in thinking about the present giving. 3) The repeated emphasis on the joy of shopping. 4) Along that line Santa describes self as "a good shopper". "Well Watson what are your conclusions?" "Egad, Holmes, I can make nothing of it!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fortunato Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:28 AM "I don't know doo doo, myself, Watson, except that my secret Santa is female, lives in the US, is fairly tidy, tends to procrastinate, is very sensitive and kind, self-critical, and probably lives in the Northeast." |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Jeri Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:29 AM I'm almost tempted to make one of those little charts and try to figure who's whose secret santa. based simply on who isn't. I honestly don't think I have one! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:54 AM Fibula, glad you liked it! I suspected it would arrive early! I've had fun playing Santa also. Have a nice trip, and send me a postcard from S. Africa for my collection! PS Keep watching for a postcard from Secret Santa with a strange postmark! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 01 - 12:01 PM Jeri, feeling the same way, the chart would be interesting.:-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SINSULL Date: 01 Nov 01 - 12:05 PM Me too. Nobody loves me; everybody hates me; I'm gonna eat some worms... |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Jeri Date: 01 Nov 01 - 12:14 PM Pass the hot sauce, SINS. (All the worms around here seem to be hibernating, but there are lots of ladybugs. Too crunchy, though.) Must drive to civilization and go shopping for the individual I'm Santa-tizing. At least THEY'RE gonna get something! Humph - bah, humbug. ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fortunato Date: 01 Nov 01 - 12:26 PM Hey, wait a minute, SINSULL, I love you! Singing: "I ain't your Santa nor your Santa's son but I can (fill in the blank) 'til your Santa comes!" cheers, Fortunato |

Those naughty Santa-catters will be getting coal in their stockings on Christmas Eve! So, be good for goodness' sake! Ho Ho Ho! Santa, President & CEO, The North Pole Inc. P.S. – Oh yes, and please don't leave out any more of that skim milk for me. I've got to watch my figure — can't let myself get too thin, or I'll be out of a job! Ho Ho Ho! |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 01 - 05:24 PM WOULD ALL THE REAL SECRET SANTAS PLEASE STAND UP? Those os us who haven't already? Maybe they don't know how to LOG OUT and sign in AS GUESTS?*BG* |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SharonA Date: 01 Nov 01 - 05:59 PM Suggestion: Perhaps KarenB could PM all Secret Santas with instructions for logging out and posting as a GUEST – and logging back in again – and could advise everyone that they're being requested to post to this Hints thread (some of them may not even be looking here, if they've read their Santees' hints already!). How about it, KarenB? |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Someone's Secreta Santa Date: 01 Nov 01 - 06:25 PM Just wondering what you're expecting to hear from your's. Some Santa's are witty & good at dropping hints, etc. Some are not & don't know how to join in the banter. Christmas is still far enough off that you can hardly think you're not going to get anything thing. Maybe your hints were enough of a clue so there are no questions. Or Santa's going to get you something particular regardless of your clues. Don't cry about Santa forgetting you until it's Dec. 26. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Noreen Date: 01 Nov 01 - 06:58 PM Just a note saying you're there would be nice... *sniff* |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Morticia Date: 01 Nov 01 - 07:27 PM "ditto" |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: katlaughing Date: 01 Nov 01 - 07:31 PM ditto, plus it would also be nice if the giftees would let us know they've been reading along, too; not much fun without participation from both sides |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: catspaw49 Date: 01 Nov 01 - 07:38 PM I'm reading. I too am trying to figure out who's who. I gave my -tee a hint but it was wondefully abstract, the kind I love. Only caught one mention from mine so far...This is entertaining. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Sorcha Date: 01 Nov 01 - 07:39 PM "ditto two"--I'd just like to know that mine is out there......somewhere..........No cheese with my whine, please. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Sorcha's SS Date: 01 Nov 01 - 07:47 PM It seems you must have missed this. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Blackcatter Date: 01 Nov 01 - 08:20 PM Let me join the chorus of Santees who wish to know if their Santa is around. If I don't get my present until the end oc December, that's fine (though, I'm more of a Solstice kind of guy - and that's when I open the rest of my goodies). I don't need witty comments, hints or anything like that, just a reassurance that Santa exists. This is the first time I've believed in Santa ever - my parents never did the "from Santa" thing, since they were dyed-in-the-wool Atheists. pax yall |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Sorcha Date: 01 Nov 01 - 09:22 PM Oh, I am so glad I checked in here......yes, indeed my SS, I did miss that. At least I know I truly have one. Send anything you like dear, including more rocks, esp ones big enough to live in the yard year round.
I also don't have DeDannan's "Star Spangled Molly" and always need a "dusting/vacuming elf". Glass cleaner and furniture polish provided. (Oven is self cleaning--just turn the knob)
Someone to carry out the garbage when it stinks would be nice, but I doubt if you can manage that, or a new elbow so we'll let that pass. Most anything I really want I already have, so just suit yourself, OK?
|
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SINSULL Date: 01 Nov 01 - 09:56 PM Gee, Sorcha. Make it easy for Him/Her! If it's me, you just opened yourself to a litter of kittens! Serves you right. Merry Christmas! BlackCatter, I am totally confused. Your parents were atheists, so no Santa? Is Santa god? That would explain a lot. SINS,also an atheist. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Sorcha Date: 01 Nov 01 - 10:02 PM Sinsull, I said anything I DON'T already have......I have (currently) 4 cats, 4 Corgis (dogs), 1 possum, 1 son, 1 daughter (that seems like 4) and 1 husband. I don't need no damn litter of anything!! (grin) Rocks are fine--they don't need food, clean clothes or clean litter boxes..... |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Allan C. Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:04 PM Karen, you are a gem! That is above and beyond. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Blackcatter Date: 01 Nov 01 - 11:08 PM Thanks Santa Sinsull - My family never celebrated Christmas. We gave each other presents and had a wonderful mean and sang secular X-mas songs, but only to celebrate the joy of family and partly to make it easier for me when I went to school and was asked about the presents I received. I never was taught to think of Santa as a real person and grew up considering him to be a Christian analogy for Jesus that children could understand. (i.e. - be good all year long and receive your reward from the all-knowing, loving Santa). At this point in my life I celebrate Yule for myself and give friends presents for whatever holiday they observe. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Guest, Noreen's Secret Santa Date: 02 Nov 01 - 12:10 AM Well, I ordered the main gift yesterday. Something kind local to So Cal, maybe a little greenish. Will add in little bits and pieces, but I can't send you the sun (it hit at least 80 degrees Farenheit today.... |
