Yes, of course it's Canadian Club. Not fancy, just smooth, affordable and friendly. Kinda like my wife...as best I can recall.

Canadian Club is a brand of whiskey from Canada. Popularly known as C.C., Canadian Club began production in 1858. It was established by Hiram Walker, and was known as Walker's Club Whiskey.
History: Walker founded his distillery in 1858 in Detroit. He first learned how to distill cider vinegar in his grocery store in the 1830s before moving on to whisky and producing his first barrels in 1854. However, with the prohibition movement gathering momentum and Michigan already becoming "dry", Walker decided to move his distillery across the Detroit River to Windsor, Ontario. From here, he was able to export his whisky, continue to perfect the distillation process and start to develop Walkerville, a community that Walker financed and sourced most of his employees from.

So it started in the U.S.   That was also revealing to me.

In the 1920s and 30s, from its Canadian distilleries, Canadian Club was one of the most bootlegged whiskies, reaching into all corners of the U.S. during Prohibition.

I remember it well. My grandparents had one of those massive Victrolas with a large horn hidden behind a mesh screen. Remove the screen and there was space for 6 bottles of C C around the horn. The bottles vibrating against the horn created a buzzy vibration. When I commented on it, they told me to tell my friends that bees had built a nest in there.
This was in New Mexico, at the south end of the Rockies.

I have a few of my own growing up in bootlegger country where rum running was a constant thing. I counter 52 (yes just like the deck of cards)bootleggers in our community. Don't know it there are any left. Will have to ask my brother in law tomorrow when he get here. Oh!! he is from a small fishing village called West Chezzetcook in Nova Scotia. The sad part is that there are no more wee fishing boats in the harbor thanks in part to the effing trawlers just out from the bay.
Gnu, the beer is way to expensive here.

There was story in my family that some relative lived happily in the Thousand Islands area during prohibition... one side of the house in the U.S., but the other in Canada.

I was just watching a show on whiskeys and they mentioned Canadian Club among others. That used to be my favorite drink, but then I discovered single malt Glen Livet, Glen Fiddich and Glen Morangie.

However, I'm sorta in my cups tonight and rather than punch a few holes in the wall I broke out the CC. (It's easier on the knuckles)

About 25/30 years ago when i was a union man i organized a bus load of members to visit Schenley's (they do whiskey.)in Valleyfield Quebec to see how their company operated. Well after 5 minutes of their "here it is"!! we settled down to more than mone drink. Here is a little information on another product that came to us from south of the border.

Some old Schenley bourbon whiskey bottles from 1940sSchenley was a liquor company based out of New York, N.Y. with headquarters in the Empire State Building and a distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. It owned several brands of Bourbon whiskey, including Schenley, The Old Quaker Company, Carstairs' White Seal, and possibly others. They also made a Canadian whisky called Black Velvet. Schenley's Black Velvet DeLuxe was the only liquor available to submarine officers at Midway in World War II, where it was held in low regard and known as "Schenley's Black Death."[1]

Schenley was acquired by the financier Meshulam Riklis in 1968. He sold the company to Guinness in 1987. Schenley had formerly imported Guinness into the United States.[citation needed]

The company sponsored the Schenley Award in the Canadian Football League for many decades. The trophy is still awarded for outstanding play, but the company does not sponsor the award.

Most Maritimers and Newfies prefer rum. (I only make that distinction because because of historical definitions.

"Snarple" : Orange juice in a tall glass, two marachino cherries and one tsp of the juice, nasty rum (Screech, Old Sam, best is London Dock... the strong stuff... only available in NF... use to bring it home by the case fer me buddies). Ya pour the rum, kept in a freezer, into the OJ SLOWLY. The OJ is good for you. The cherries and cherry juice are good for you and keep you from getting hiccups and a hangover. The rum, well that is good AND bad for you.

Fact is, poured correctly, two of those with London Dock or Navy 151 will last you all night and won't mess you up for the next day... just for tonight.

My Dad used to drink Golden Wedding and Golden Tassle (he didn't seem to mind the taste, since he mixed it with ready made Collins mix).

I remember a really smooth Canadian rye named Corby's Park Lane. It was made in Corbyville,Ontario, just off Hwy 37 just north of Belleville and south of Tweed. The brand does not exist any more.

I recall Lamb"s Palm Breeze and Golden Anchor rum was popular (when I was younger) at the local botleggers. I believe some of the good Rum brands originally came from Cuba, but after the revolution were made in other Carribean locations, like Puerto Rico (and lost some quality, at least for a period).

I hadn't heard of Black Velvet since WW2. Another horror was Three Roses. Forget who made that.
And I forget the recipe the wife had that used 151 proof rum. For awhile, 'overproof' was not available in sinless Alberta. On one of those cruises we picked up a couple of bottles when the boat (I won't dignify it with the name ship) stopped in the Caymans. Dang, gotta find that recipe again. Not as good as the grain alcohol used in the Army hospitals. I often wondered how much got charged to evaporation.

Another story. Years ago my older son (now 50, he was sixteen at the time) and a friend got picked up in Banff, Alberta, for underage drinking. They were put in the jug. The next day, they were fed fried chicken. The mountie called us to come pick them up.

Did they learn a lesson? My son complained that his mother's chicken wasn't as good, and both kids grew up to be lawyers.

We take a few--or a few more than a few, because we can transport a case each over the border--of 2-fers which we buy at the duty-free shop to Kendall's and Jacqui's, BUT we don't let Jacqui know her hubby has four sheets to the wind. When we get arrested, one of Q's sons gets us out on bail--the some of us being Kendall, Q, Gnu, Beer and moi! If Danny is with us, he can straighten out the sentence when Kendall sobers up. This sounds like a plan comin' together.

Bruce, I'll do the evening meal. It will be a beef stew made from most of the garden veggies. This will be made the night before we leave and so that there will be no work as the bottles will be passed it will give us no time to waste.
I will also do the morning breakfast with cooked wild blueberries poured over as many pancakes as you wish. I will also do a supper with stuffed trout ( that is if Kendall will catch them.)yellow beans and fresh New Brunswick spuds that Gnu will bring. Q is supplying the wine for this meal.
Question, Where the hell are we going and for how long? Need to inform the misses.

For fun I reread the post's above and i tell ya were in big trouble. The way we are bouncing around we will never find our way back to where ever the hell we are going.

That's what I said, but it's good to have your unsolicited agreement that Gnu was the guy who started it.

Now, because of "Gnu the ne'er-do-well", I have some guys who want their 'shine back along with a healthy and completely voluntary gratuity of five grand in small, unmarked bills to cover the shipping and restocking charges. The other five grand--making the aggregate total (I have NO idea what that word means, but it has a nice ring to don'tcha know) is meant to provide them an evening out so they can forget this unfortunate situation they wish to put away for good--ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. They didn't talk about what the OTHER way was, but it didn't sound too good for our dearly though not-yet departed New Brunswick friend.

Uh, you got Gnu's address? They ain't too happy right now, and one of 'em asked me what chairs would look like if people's knees bent the other way. All that fuss over a measly eight kegs of spirits which I figured out wouldn't have lasted long considering that's only about 42 gallons when you add them all up, and with five of us or so, hell, woulda been gone in a couple-three days.

And speaking about 'gone in a couple-three days', have you got Gnu's number?
