In spite of Sarah Palin using tax payers money to jet her family whereever they want to go now it seems that John McCain's campign is faulting Barak Obama for using his chartered jet, not paid for from tax payers money, to go see his sick grandmotrher... Of course, his family, a number of press people and a number of his staff will also be on board the 737, which for folks who don't fly much, ain't that big a friggin' plane, but...

...seems that we know have "737Gate" being floated to replace Joe the UnPlumberGate...

What next from McCain???

Like at age 86 and in poor health I can just smell the wheels turning inside the cynical little McCain inner circle thinkin', "Hey, Obama is faking his garndmother's illness"...

Ya' know, ya'll... I'm getting ratehr sick of being able to predict the next move from McCain... It is extremely fu*ked up...

Seems that McCain knows that he ain't gonna win and now all he wants to do is light off as many stick bombs as he can in defeat...

I saw that Republican campaign speaker trying that tactic - Obama should not be flying in such an expensive plane to Hawaii.... the news reporter burst out laughing and could not stop. Nice try, he said to the Repub mouthpiece. I think they dropped it, as it has not surfaced again in the rest of the day as far as I could see.

It was part of the (petty to my mind) discussion of Sarah Palin's wardrobe.

I say, give the woman a break! She recently had a baby. If the campaign wants to buy her some fashionable clothes, let them do it. It is a non-issue.

McCain's folks have allready criticized Obama for using his own money to charter the pane because they say that in these times of oil shortage that he shouldn't do that....

So, seein' as there aren't too many days between now and the election, I figured that I'd just go the the "end user" in the debate: Obama's grandmother... And given the silly arguments on why folks should not vote for Obama, this was going to be their next stop... Hey, we are dealing with very desperate people here who will say or do anything to hang onto the White House...

The last couple of weeks has shown just how desperate they are so I don't rule anything out on their parts...

The city announced about a year ago that Costco was going to open here. The land had been purchased. Then it was announced that the permits had been issued. Then bulldozers and stuff like that started moving dirt and rocks around.

Know what?

Some people said that the city was doing all that to make it look like Costco was coming. Costco was really going to build in Idaho Falls, 50 miles north of here.

Then the building started to go up.

Same rumor. Like the city could afford to build something of 94,000 sq. ft., ya know?

Finally, a couple months ago the sign went up. Parking lots were paved. People were hired.

Same rumor.

Costco opened today. I guess when I was in there for the "open house" last night I wasn't in a real Costco store, at least not one in this town. It was all a fake, ya know?

The point is, some people will say anything and sometimes they even believe it -- until reality hits them square in the nose.

Here's a new twist on the Rovian tactics of McCain supporters. A McCain campaign volunteer appears to have fabricated a story in which she was mugged, beaten up, and had the letter "B" (presumably, they say, for Barack) carved into her face by a Black man who wanted to teach her a lesson for supporting McCain.

As soon as I saw/heard this "story" on an MSNBC video, I could feel my Susan Smith lie detection radar twitching and vibrating. I had a look around, and sure enough, police suspect her of concocting the whole story...

Doug, I think the Secret Service are glad that the Obama campaign does not put him on a commercial plane like the Republican demanded. I'm sure they appreciate the security from the campaign investing in a private plane to move the candidate around. The McCain campaign has two planes to use, one owned by McCain's wife. Actually, for folks above a certain age ~ especially women, although maybe the fact that women live so much longer skews the statistics ~ a broken hip is very serious, and while it may not be cited as the "cause" of death, it is often followed by death not long afterwards.

My great-grandmother lived into her early nineties and was quite healthy and independent until she broke her hip (walking down the icy front steps in winter, setting out on her daily one-block walk to 6am Mass). She passed away within less than a month.

Sarah Palin's expensive wardrobe and makeup artist are about as important campaign issues as John Edwards's $400 haircut (with an LA stylist making a 'house call' to do it) or Cindy McCain's wearing $280,000 earrings and a $20,000 suit at the RNC. That is to say, NOT important.
(So why did the press and the Republicans basically bury John Edwards, long before the Rielle Hunter scandal, because of that haircut?)

The only thing I find wrong - or at least ironic - about Sarah Palin having such an expensive designer wardrobe (no matter who pays for it) is that she and the Republicans have been trying so hard to paint themselves as "plain folks" and marginalize Obama as "elitist" and some sort of "Hollywood celebrity."

Wearing clothes from Nieman Marcus and designer labels doesn't really jibe with the down-home, working-class, ordinary non-elitist, non-celebrity image that Palin has tried so hard to milk.

I'd say spending over $300,000 for her convention outfit kind of makes Cindy McCain seem a bit "elitist" too, even if she did buy it with her inherited money.

The Obamas are much more "plain middle-class" folks than the McCains ever were, at least where privilege is concerned (if not intellect and education).

Republicants have short term (and long term) memory problems. They forget that they attack other candidates for the same issues that they are guilty of - and in this case far worse than a $400 haircut, and Edwards certainly was not excused for getting such an expensive do. ALL politicians who flaunt their wealth in this fashion get rightfully skewered, and the Doug R's of the world are simply ignoring facts and following their party line if they deny that. For the image that they are trying to portray with this "hockey mom", a wardrobe of this type is inappropriate to say the least.   The spin doctors LATER announced that this was for charity, but if they were genuine it would not have been an after thought. There is technical term that is used in political circles for this type of action - it is called "saving your ass".

America is finally waking up from their Republicant stupor. The conservatives are being exposed for the liars and cheats that they are. No amount of spin doctoring is going to fix this unless fundemental changes are made. Of course, they can always steal another election - which seems to be their only hope this time around.

Actually, I'd say it's just the act of a desperate man speaking for a campaign so desperate that they'll throw any sort of mud or silly putty in the hope that something will stick.   Attacks as far-fetched and bizarre as suggesting that a man constantly accompanied by Secret Service agents for his protection should forgo visiting the dying woman who raised him, so he can continue speaking at a couple more campaign rallies, or inconvenience hundreds of other air passengers by trying to take a commercial flight to Hawaii.   

We have come to the point in this election year where absolutely anything and everything Barack Obama does -- or does not do -- is being spun as yet another reason not to trust him and not to vote for him.

I honestly can't recall when I've ever seen such ubiquitous, inconsistent, and often ridiculous attacks on a Presidential candidate.
