Subject: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, pl From: katlaughing Date: 13 Nov 03 - 02:05 PM The lullies have worked so well for Black Walnut's nephew, I would appreciate it if you have some to spare for my daughter, Rue and her as-yet-unborn child which we think is a girl. She will be named Esclarmonde "Claire" Morgan, if so. And, she is not due 'til Dec. 13th. This baby is Rue's first. The doctor is not too alarmed, being cautious, but Rue is preeclampsic and has had border-line gestational diabetes. Her blood pressure is too high. If they can get it down over the next day or so, she can probably go home. If not, they will probably induce. If that doesn't work, it will be c-section time. Please send positive thoughts, etc. as you are able. They will be greatly appreciated. I may be off the Mudcat for a bit, depending on what happens. We will not go up if she is okay and goes home. Otherwise we'll be leaving asap. Thanks a bunch, kat |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:00 PM I just this week read something about preeclampsia, about a simple solution just discovered, but I can't remember what the answer was or where I read it. You might want to do a search on it. SRS |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 13 Nov 03 - 04:24 PM Thank you so much. You folks are the Salt of the Earth. SRS, yes, I'd just read that, too, at teh preeclampsia foundation website. It was magnesium somethingorother, sulfate, if I remember corrrectly. I'll go back ad check. Thanks for the reminder. Rue sounds really calm and good. Her BP is down, for now, with an IV and lying on her left side. She has a fetal monitor and a button that she has to push each time she feels the baby move. They are doing an echo/sonogram? this afternoon and a 24 hr urine test, so she'll be there a day or two at least. More, of course, if a birth ebcome imminent. Funny thing, this past week she really got in gear, washing up all of the new things she got at her baby shower, "nesting"...she said she felt as though she was "ready." I'll just be relieved and so happy when they have both come through it okay. She is my last child and I came very close to deathhaving her, so it's probably more alarming to me than it should be. I know this condition is very treatable and the doc is being cuatious. Your support form "grammy" is really helpful, too! love and gratitude, kat |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Nov 03 - 07:12 PM I understand. I was preeclampsic with my twins, induced two weeks early. The BP was erratic for some time, and I now have high BP. Since I love lullabies, I'll be singing lots of 'em. Good luck! If you hear some new ones please share them with us. I like hearing the ones from other countries. |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 13 Nov 03 - 07:23 PM OH, Mary, thanks. I was hoping to hear from someone who's been through this. Her ultrasound showed low amniotic fluid. So, they will do another in the a.m. If they don't like the readings then, they will do a c-section. I understand low fluid keeps the baby from being very active and that was shown with the ultrasound. I think my daughter is doing better than I am! She sounds very calm and assured. First thing this kid will hear from me is Prairie Lullaby. Trying to keep my mind on a visualisation of them both safe, well, and at home post-delivery. kat |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Nov 03 - 08:08 PM I don't remember a lot about it -- afterall, it was 30 years ago! But I do remember not being able to think clearly for several weeks after they were born. I had trouble reading a map and calculating the amount of formula needed each day. As best I remember, the only cure for preeclampsia is childbirth. I was given a drug which helped me diurese Sp? (lose water) when I went to the hospital. I gained 48 pounds with my pregnancy and lost 54 before I left the hospital! I was so swollen I couldn't wear shoes, (no Kentucky jokes, Spaw) so I managed to slip on an old pair, unlaced, and left and them in the trash can at the hospital. I also broke out in hives the last week. I was ordered to bed rest the last week and watched the Watergate hearings live. |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Nov 03 - 08:17 PM I just read your above post. I think I was given either calcium or magnesium. As best I remember, this is the same as "milk fever" in dairy cows -- I've watched Hubby treat hundreds. It's one of the miracle "shows." A cow is down and taking her last breath - the vet puts calcium in the veins IV - and then she jumps up and runs around. I'm sure James Herriot did quite a few. It makes for good TV shows. It's really quite complex, and I'm sure the docs are current on the latest. |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 14 Nov 03 - 12:05 PM C-section is imminent. We will leave either late this afternoon or first thing in the morning. Her brother and several friends, including her "second mom" are there or will be, throughout the day. Please give thanks/pray/etc. for a healthy and safe outcome for them both. I've told Rue of your lullies, candles, and concern. She's very touched and grateful. It looks as though the Wyoming weather is going to cooperate. They even had some winter storm advisories cancelled! Could it be so Cosmic or what?!**bg** Thanks and love to you all, kat and family |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 14 Nov 03 - 04:34 PM Ohmygawds and gawddesses!! This one sure pulled a trick on us...it's a BOY!!!! Rue and he are safe and well. He weighed in at 5lbs. 11ozs., but Uncle Colin and friends say he looks bigger and the ultrasound said he was 6lbs. AND, the coup de grace...he has red hair like his grammy used to!!! He's a Scorpio like his Granddad Rog, too! So, changing gears on the name thing, he is tentatively being named Kiernan or Kieran Morgan. THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH. I am really relieved and she sounds so happy as do the rest of them who are with her. Your strength, songs, and concern were much needed and very much appreciated. Now for "on the road." Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 14 Nov 03 - 06:21 PM Forgot to ask if anyone knows any good, really unusual male French names. Everyone LOVED Esclarmonde "Claire" Morgan, so....Claire and variations of it are listed for boy's names, but she doesn't want to do the "boy named sue" thing. Her utility company's name is "Kinder Morgan" so the earlier choice for first name may not fly. Any unusual suggestions are welcome, but she's going to give "Gramps" first choice. |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 14 Nov 03 - 08:33 PM LOL, thank you my dear friends. It's fun to share such joy, isn't it? I think we are MOST fortunate that the wee bairn is okay as they did not have to tie off the umbilical cord. He, himself, had already tied it in a "true" knot while twirling around in the womb. Fortunately it was slack enough that it did not cut-off his vital supplies of air, blood, and nutrients. This was a babe who really needed to be delivered asap! The next 72 hours are critical for Rue as she is still preeclampsic, but they've just started her on magnesium sulphate and I've read at www.preeclampsia.org that it literally saves mothers' lives. She has not had any seizures, but the BP is still too high. I believe this will gradually ease off. The silly gyrl, she said she'll be happy when we get up there. I thought she meant because of being in hospital and such, but no, she's worried about her cat and wants us to sleep with her, the cat that is!**BG** Is she my daughter or what?! Mother, father, god of my heart, I give thanks for this day and for the safe delivery of our babe and the health and safety of our Rue. I give thanks for their continued well-being. I give thanks for this or something better, for the highest good of all concerned. So mote it be! Thanks, luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 14 Nov 03 - 08:35 PM Forgot to ask, anyone know if there are any folk tales about the significance of a "true" knot in the umbilical cord? Seems a very Celtic thing, doesn't it?:-) |

You have been so supportive of me over the past months, and here I was absent on you yesterday ~ please forgive me!!! Last night I sang Oats Peas Beans and Barley at our song circle. Everything big starts small! May this babe grow big and strong. What's wrong with Kiernan or Kieran? I have a thing for names that start with K. My baby boy was "Special K" in the womb (Kevin or Kathleen). He's not Kathleen, so take it from there. Much hugs, Kat, ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: katlaughing Date: 16 Nov 03 - 06:15 PM Thanks, everyone! Tink, French Canadian is really what we were looking for, so I will chck out that site, but I THINK she's got a name for him: Morgan Aurel. What say you, Catters? Aurel was Rog's dad's first name and she's always liked it! I am on my son's computer and the only phone line, so I won't be on very often, BUT he is absolutely darling, his hair really is light, downy red, and he is very wrinkly and long, like a bean pole. The wrinkles are because he didn't get to fill out ahead of time. We are very, very lucky he insisted on beig delivered earlier, otherwise he most likely would have been stillbrn because of the knot. "True" knots are very rare. If you put it in a google search there are some good pix, but of course they may freak some out to see.:-) Rue is doing well, much less sore, today and able to get around. She will probably come home tomorrow, possibly wait until Tues. Her BP was up a tiny bit, today. She sang him Prairie Lullaby the day he was born. I sang it to him this morning. He is very sound oriented. She is a very calm, patient first time mother and his Uncle COlin is a proud as a peacock, esp., since he saw him born! I guess it was pretty funny. Rue couldn't see that the girl we all expected was a boy, just after they took him out. She said she saw a kind of funny look on Colin's face and then he blurted out, "Well, now what are you going to name it!?"LOL... Grampa Rog hasn't held him, yet, too tiny and he doesn't like hospitals, but he's been a great chauffer, installed the infant car seat, bought her flowers, and went up to see her. Her friends took some digital pix. As soon as they email them to me, I'll send one to Jeff, so you all can see this kid. Everyone says he is adorable, not just me!**bg** Thanks, so much! luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Daughter & not-yet-born need lullies, too, please From: GUEST,southpawfiddler Date: 16 Nov 03 - 08:34 PM wonderful news about your daughter and the baby. My daughter is also "Rue" but spelled Reue . We expected a boy so had chosen Reuel and she supprised us as a girl so we changed it by adding the lyn from my name and came up with Reuellyn. All her friends shorted it to Reue We havn't found other Rue's ! All the best... My favorite Lullaby has always been Hush-a-by (Pretty little Ponies) Another Reue's mother in North Carolina |

Did the whole day without getting really fatigued, though I did rest a bit late afternoon. Thanks to you, each of you, for the well wishes, hugs and kisses and Yes! Sorcha, he does look a lot like his Uncle Colin, doesn't he? Everyone says his mom looks like me and all of my kids' baby pix look like mine, so I guess I've got strong genes.:-) He was so cute at lunch, today. Rog had our gift to him in a sack by his end of the table at the restaurant. I was on the other side of Morgan and my brother and my daughter were across from us. My brother gave him his gift to open, which went well. What boy doesn't like Hot Wheels? Then Rog handed him our gift. He opened it and was pleased, a CARS pop-up tent, then he turned to me and said, "Now, for Mama's present?" Took him a minute to understand Papa had given him something from us both. He was really good and we all enjoyed ourselves. He regularly melts my heart. I was at the cash register paying our bill when he cuddled up to me, looked up and said, "Mama, I love you!" Ah...what an "upper" he is. luvyakatgoingoutofbragmode |

The canyons here are nothing compared to the Grand Canyon, but they are still a sight to see. You can drive up out of our high (about 4,500 feet above sea level)desert semi-temperate valley to sub-alpine (11,000 feet) on the top of the huge and ancient Grand Mesa (it used to be a volcano, they think at least another ten miles higher than what we see today!), in a couple or so hours with all of the beautiful landscape you'd expect in-between.
