60’s songbook for School’s TV

Hi I’m trying to track down a songbook associated with a School’s TV music programme from the mid to late sixties. It featured Welsh themed songs including one called Penillion (first line - “You sing a little descant and make up some new words/don't start from the beginning but wait till you’ve heard a few bars…and then we finish here”. There was also a song about the Towy (words “The Towy is a famous stream that runs from Craigrwn” sp?). Booklet was illustrated with as memory recalls blue and black line drawings. Can anyone help me track it down?

Should have added it was a UK School’s Music programme on either BBC or ITV

I remember both "Singing Together" and "Time and Tune" both of which are discussed on mudcat threads. I've found links to various songs that I learnt at school and was reminded of many more that I had forgotten

It’s possible my memory may be faulty and it might be from BBC radio Music Workshop for Schools 2 series called Twm Sion Cati. In 1969. Does anyone have the student songbook for this and if so could you check the contents page to see if has the songs I mentioned?

I'm in Australia and we had similar radio music for schools with associated books.

I found this site which refers to the Music Workshop Stage Two and lower down on that page is a list of the songs in the book.

One of the image links is for Twm Sion Cati in 1970.

If that page doesn't lead to a digital copy of the book you are looking for then it is possible there are other digital archive copies of the book online, e.g. this site:

Now comes the hard part: waiting and hoping that Guest,Judith Gardiner comes back and looks at the answers.

You have made me think that I should find my two Australian radio broadcast books and scan them or just do an internet search and see if they have been digitally archived somewhere.

If memory serves me correctly, a well-known Aussie folk singer/songwriter named Chris Kempster had a major part in achieving those broadcasts and compiling the songs. I remember that Reedy River was one of the songs in the book.

'Reedy River' doesn't ring any bells.
If you're looking for the BBC booklets we have already, This thread gives the contents for 'Singing Together', and blue links at the top of the page take you to (almost) all similar booklets.

Nigel, I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of it but Reedy River is an Aussie song using the poem written by Henry Lawson in 1896 and a tune composed by Chris Kempster. It later inspired a musical theatre production.
