Subject: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Wombat at work Date: 04 Feb 04 - 06:29 AM Hi, this is all about our annual fund raiser for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat, which is taking place on 13th March 04. There is full information about this on the Raggytash and Wombat thread, but we realised that the thread title was'nt too informative, so decided to link them together - hope this works. go to Raggytash and Wombat thread for full details of this event Wombat |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 04 Feb 04 - 07:44 AM For those who don't know, the story started like this .........In 1977 the Royal National Lifeboat Institute decided that they would close their station at Runswick Bay as part of a cost cutting exercise, stating that cover could be provided by either Whitby or Staithes stations. Now if you're drowning in Runswick Bay, doing a doggy paddle whilst waiting for one of these boats is not really an option. Thus locals were going out in their own boats to effect rescues, boats unsuited to the task. A decision was taken by the local population to provide and fund a rescue boat themselves, which they have done for the past 20 odd years. The funding is all from private voluntary donations and all monies are used to maintain the rescue boat ALL the crews and committee freely volunteer their time and efforts. For the past 7 years Wombat and I together with our wonderful, generous and inventive friends have sought ways to raise money to assist the upkeep of the rescue boat and have raised about £3000 so far. This year we would like to add to that total, we do not set a target, any amount raised is a bonus for the Rescue Boat. On the 13th March at Milnsbridge Socialist Club we will hold our annual musical extravaganza to which all are most welcome. If you require furtehr details please PM or email me on nickscaife@supanet.com and all enquiries will be dealt with. We also provide supper for those attending to assist in soaking up some of the alcofrol!!, so if you'r ecoming please let us know so we know how much to cook and please letus know if you're vegetarian so we can cater for you Cheers Raggytash |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Raggytash Date: 11 Feb 04 - 12:01 PM We, the admiring public, are well aware of how much front you have young lady. I look forward to seeing it, and you, on the 13th March at Milnsbridge Socialist Club, where, with your kind assistance we will have a great night and raise a shekel or two for the Rescue Boat |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST Date: 11 Feb 04 - 01:27 PM Well I must say I feel a bit peeved now. We spent a lovely few days last summer in Staithes, where I purchased a sweatshirt from the RNLI shop, on which it states "Staithes and Runswick lifeboat", but having just read this thread, it looks like none of my contribution will go towards the Runswick boat. Is this correct? Also, if someone gets into difficulties in Runswick Bay, I assume that the Runswick boat goes out, so does that mean that the Staithes boat also goes, and what happens if they both get there at the same time? Wilby |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Wilbyhillbilly Date: 11 Feb 04 - 01:28 PM The post above is mine, Sorry, forgot to put my name in |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Raggytash Date: 11 Feb 04 - 04:18 PM The Runswick Bay Rescue boat works in conjunction with the Coastguard who co-ordinate all rescues. Both the RunswickBoat and the Staithes Boat will on occasion attend. however as Staithes is some distance up the coast, the chances are that the Runswick Boat will get to you first if you're doing a doggy paddle off shore in Runswick Bay or surrounds. True the money you gave to the Staithes & Runswick Lifeboat will go into RNLI funds not see the light of day in the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat coffers. The RBRB is entirely funded by voluntary donations into their own coffers, they receive no funding at all from the RNLI, all monies donated to them go to the upkeep of the boat and associated tackle, equipment, premises etc. All crew are entirely voluntary as are all the committee, Every penny goes to keep the service running. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 11 Feb 04 - 04:55 PM I hope you get lots of support and keep the boat operational. It's people like you that Winston Churchill wrote this for. "The Lifeboat drives on with a mercy which does not quail in the presence of death; it drives on as a proof, a symbol, a testimony, that man is created in the image of God, and that valour and virtue have not perished in the British race." Interestingly enough, if one substitutes Human for British it becomes an international statement of truth. Yours, Aye. Dave |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Zany Mouse Date: 11 Feb 04 - 06:58 PM Don't forget to buy LOTS and LOTS of raffle tickets!!!! Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Raggytash Date: 11 Feb 04 - 07:40 PM David, Thanks very kind of you, but I'm just a punter, who, with the help of some very very generous people, (see above Zany Mouse, who's spent God know's how many hours creating a quilt for us to Raffle/Auction)can provide a bit of cash to help the service keep running. The people who truly deserve the accolade, are the people who risk their lives to aid others, those I admire beyond estimation |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST Date: 11 Feb 04 - 08:32 PM There would not be a Lifeboat if it was not for people like you who organize and collect the money. |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Alexis (sans cookie) Date: 18 Feb 04 - 08:01 AM In the interests of both, keeping this thread going and furhtering my knowledge, what sort of split would you envisage between singing and playing (obviously the caveat of it depends who comes, dominates, wants to etc) and how does one recognise familiar names (nome de plumes perchance?) against unfamiliar faces? ALex |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 18 Feb 04 - 08:15 AM Singing to date has predominated, mainly because it's mainly singers who come, however we are a very "catholic" gathering and will gladly listen to/join in with tunes. |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Tyke Date: 24 Feb 04 - 10:50 PM Now, Now Raggytash why would I want to verbally abuse you on your own thread? Is Redcar Mike going to make it over on the 13th of March to the Milnsbridge Socialist Club? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 25 Feb 04 - 04:03 AM The said Michael, who incidentally plays his bodhran in a manner that resembles an Orang Utang bashing his bishop, has been invited but will in all probability needa reminder as he did indicate he would attend |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Wombat at work Date: 25 Feb 04 - 06:25 AM Not only will Redcar need a reminder about attending, he will probably also need someone to read the map - if he remembers to bring the map with him! His last attempt to get to the venue ended dismally. Probably because he went to the wrong place! Tyke - he needs your help! |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: GUEST,Amazed of Ampleforth Date: 25 Feb 04 - 06:53 AM Good God, if he needs Tykes help he must be in a bad way |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat Fund raiser From: Tyke Date: 25 Feb 04 - 05:38 PM Flipping Cheek! Ok with out the use of a map directions to Milnsbridge! Heading west on the M62 past the Heartshead Moor services don't turn off for Huddersfield and Brighouse. Climb up the hill the M62 has four lanes. Take the next slip road left at the bottom of the slip road. First exit at the round about climb up the hill past a hotel past the Wappy Spring Pub look out for a post box on the right turn right. Over the speed bumps left at the dual carriageway and immediately turn right. Follow this road down a very step hill there is a pub half way down on the left and a bus terminus on your right. Turn right after the bus terminus down a cobbled road and turn Left at the bottom. Follow that road to the end. Turn right under the Bridge and you are in Milnsbridge! Failing that here is a link to Street Map UK all you have to do is put in the Post Code. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/Default.htm |
