Subject: Liam Clancy R.I.P. From: Liam's Brother Date: 20 Feb 00 - 06:36 PM When I arrived at my mother's home this afternoon, she told me that she had just heard over the radio that Liam Clancy had died. She called the station and the information was reconfirmed. I know no details beyond that he is being waked in Connecticut. Liam had a beautiful voice and used it fawlessly. His solo CD for Vanguard, Liam Clancy, was a monumental achievement - one of the finest recordings of the 1960s and stands up well even today. I'm sure his many admirers at the Mudcat Cafe will miss him very much. Dan Milner |

Subject: RE: Liam Clancy R.I.P. From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 20 Feb 00 - 07:01 PM All day I've been humming a song I can't seem to find the words to... Come back to Erin Mavournin, Mavournin... It's not Kathleen Mavournin; it's not in the DT; it's not at any of the Mudcat links; it's not in any of my music books. Where did I get these words? What is the song? Mary |

Subject: RE: Liam Clancy R.I.P. From: Willie-O Date: 20 Feb 00 - 07:16 PM When I hear a news flash like this I check around the usual net news sources. Well...CNN, AP, MSNBC (Yeccccch, the worst) and even my beloved CBC have not a thing on the wire about the late great Liam Clancy. Once again the Mudcat, and I guess a few NE radio stations, have scooped them. New world of information, humph. Well, here's all honour to his memory. Willie-O |

Subject: RE: Liam Clancy R.I.P. From: paddyc Date: 20 Feb 00 - 08:14 PM Liam Clancy came on his message board and said for himself "I am Alive". Whoever started this rumour is a frieking idiot. Here's to Liam & many more years! |
Subject: Liam Clancy-Twice Confirmed To Be Alive From: GUEST,MCorbett Date: 20 Feb 00 - 08:47 PM Hi, y'all. Not only have I communicated with Liam Clancy personally today (fortunately, he contacted me before I heard the "news"), but I have also confirmed with the radio station that the report is false. They are now declaring the report to be false. It was called in by someone who claimed to be from a record company. It was a cruel joke which has hurt a lot of people. It is also a lesson in responsible journalism. Plus, Liam lives in Ireland, not "at his home in Connecticut", as the report stated. I e-mailed the folks from the Irish show at Fordham Radio and offered to post an explanation, retraction, or apology on Liam's site, which I run. It's at http://homepage.tinet.ie/~clan/English/ Hopefully, they will respond. |
