If anybody's in the neighborhood, Jean Ritchie will be playing at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday evening, April 28.

As a lot of long time forum readers know, Jean Ritchie is not only one of my favorite people and artists, but also evokes some wonderful memories of a time when I came to realize the true beauty of folk music.

Wish I could make it.

Spaw

She put on a concert April 2 in Woods Hole, Mass., that was wonderful. She also mentioned that she'll turn 78 in December and made a couple references to the rocking chair. As much as I'd like to believe she'll go on forever, she won't. The Cleveland concert is a must if you can make it.
(Spaw: She put on a clinic in the traditional style of dulcimer playing you've written about a few times. So simple, so beautiful).

As a performer in the Cambridge Revels a lifetime ago I had the priviledge of sitting at her feet, too speechless to say a word. She shines- wish I could be there!

Jean is one of my true folk heroes, and a concert by her is a chance not to be missed. Animaterra -- I, too, had a chance to be in a Christmas Revels performance with Jean here in D.C. Her singing was as luminously beautiful as ever. She and husband George were in D.C. for a Folklore Society concert earlier this year and that, too, was a treat. Don't miss this one, you lucky Ohioans!

Jean in my opinion is one of the most important folk artists in America today. She is an embodiment of the mountain culture of our country and a true treasure. She is also a highly intelligent individual who presents traditional American folk music in a context that is meaningful, fun and tasteful manner and her concerts are essential listening to all lovers of this kind of music.

There are few like Jean today. I am so grateful for her.

Frank
