Please help. I'm looking for the lyrics to a John Hartford poem from one of his early albums. I want it to be part of my mothers eulogy. He recites the poem with a simple accoustic guitar in backround. It may be from "The Love Album" and the title may be "Prayer". I'm just not sure.It begins,I believe, with " I love life.." and then goes on to talk about the wonders of life and love. It ends with his expressed desire to continue to grow and not lose his sense of wonder and not " wake one morning and find myself bored, one of the walking dead". I would merely like a copy of the words. Thanks for your help.

I have the Love Album, if the prayer is on it. I will post it here later if I have it on that album or maybe Iron Mountain. Whoever you are, you are talking to me!

This person is a close family friend whom I directed to the Mudcat when he asked me about these lyrics/poem.
I'm sorry Tony,I checked my Hartford collection and this is one I don't have.
Any catters who could offer any help it would be deeply appreciated.

Ron.

PRAYER by John Hartford --The Love Album, 1968

I love life.
Every morning I wake up
Saying in the back of my mind
This could be my last day on earth
This could be the last time
I'll ever feel the wind raising the hair on my body
Or the touch of my feet to the ground
Or the warmth of your flesh next to mine
This could be the last chance I'll have to watch all kinds of people
Doing all kinds of things
And thinking all kinds of thoughts
In all kinds of directions around me
This might even be my last chance
To spend everything I've saved since last night
Or hear all your sounds ringing through my head
It might even be my last chance to be sick
And like a child
Trying to do everything, say everything, see everything and be everything all at once
Should I wake up some morning, God help me, and find myself bored
Among the walking dead...

Harpgirl, You've done a great service for someone in a time of need. Major Karma Points. Tony

Dharmabum, As always your family has aided mine just when we need it most. I hope I can return the favor somehow. Tony

Thank you Tony. I am sorry for your loss. Kendall was kind enough to fix my turntable. He has given me back hours of joy! Couldn't have done it without him...

To you all, I've got the poem all ready and incorporated it onto a photo of my mother from her twenties. It is just exactly what I wanted to do and you folks made it possible. At a point in time fraught with pain and loss, a real bright spot of sharing and thoughtfulness has come shining bright. Thank you all again very much, Gratefuly, Tony
