Instructions for My Rag:

First it's D, and then it's G, and then A and then back to D. G for a little more, then back to A. Back to D, and then to G, and then A and then back to D. Go to E right here, and then back to A (and you make a little run).

Back to D, and then to G, and then A and then back to D. Yo go to G right here, and then G-flat (with a seven), B minor, B seven, then G and then to E and back to A and this little run and then back to D.

Then the minor part's B minor, and you go and hit G-flat, then you do it once again just one more time. Then you go to D and then you bring it back to A, then one more time to D and back to A. That's where it's at.

But John, although he called the chords in D, often played 'em in C with the capo on the 2nd fret. That's how I play it.
C   /F   /G   /C   /F   /    /G   /    /
C   /F   /G   /C   /D7 /    /G   /run /
C   /F   /G   /C   /F   /    /E   /E7   /
Am /C7 /F   /D7 /G   /run /C   /    /
Bridge:
Am   /    /E   /E7   /Am   /    /E   /E7   /
C    /    /G   /    /C    /    /G    /    /

Here's the whole thing based on John Hartford's concert at Lacrosse College in 1983. The chords are played in a "C" position with a capo on the 2nd fret. I'll base the chords on C, as in the song:
  C                              F
Well, about this song that I'm pickiin' on the guitar
G                         C
Can't really tell what it is
                   F
Well I can't really tell if it's
                                  G
heavy metal-funk-jazz-acid rock or blues.
       C                      F
Well I got me a bunch of these chords right here
       G                   C                      D
And my left hand plays 'em around in a circle back sound
                           G
like them big folk singers do.
Well first I go to C, then I go to F,
then I go to G, then I go to C once again,
then I go to F once more, then I move it on back to E7.
then I go to Am, then I go to C,
then I go to F, then I go to D,
then I go to G
then I make a little run and I go back to C.
Then the bridge goes to Am, then it goes back to E7.
Then it goes once again to Am, then it goes back to E7.
Then it goes to C, then it goes to G.
Then it makes a little run and it goes back to C,
                                                    G
But you have to take it into consideration that the capo's
on the 2nd fret.
...after that Hartford goes into a break and ends the song.

Sorry people. Some of the chords didn't fall over the right words in the transmission. I hope you get the idea.
I put preformat <pre> tags in - did that fix it?
