Welcome Helen/Ladyharp, from Helen

Glad to be of service - and it was worth it to be called a "star"!

Hi everyone - I knew the Mudcat network would work like a charm.

Hi Bonnie,

If you want to contact the Harplist person direct the Subject title in the Harplist is:

[Harplist] trying to find ... a harper! (in south UK)

Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 15:12:30 -0000

I have e-mailed her to tell her about this thread and I think that she has already checked it out at least once.

Thanks Helen

Helen

The Harplist is a Yahoo Group (email-noticeboard, sort of like a newsgroup) though the moderator likes to vet new applicants (not as fierce as it sounds: she was getting a lot of cruisers who weren't really interested in harp and who just joined because they thought it seemed exotic). As this list has around 1000 members she wants to keep it from getting out of hand. There are also separate Yahoo groups for Wire Strung harp, Pedal Harp, Cross-Strung Harp and several more, but Harplist is the main one and most of the members of these smaller groups also belong to it. It's very active and interesting, a great resource for players of all types of harp, with a lot of expertise among its members to draw upon.

If you go to www.yahoogroups.com and follow the instructions it should lead you to these, though the harp list goes by a different name - can't remember what, but it's pretty obvious. PM me if you have problems!

There is a firm of harp makers in Godstone, Surrey who make excellent harps and may well be able to suggest someone. Write to Pilgrim Harps, Stanstead House, Tilburstow Hill Road, South Godstone, Surrey RH9 8NA; phone 0134-289-3242.

Or, PM me (or email me privately: I'm on the Harplist) because I know someone in Kent who might be able to do it - she's a lovely lady, the perfect person to have around on a happy occasion like a wedding. I haven't spoken to her in awhile, but will pass on a contact mailing address for her (I don't like to hand out private phone numbers and have no email for her). Best of luck!

I did a wedding on Saturday at Squerries Court in Kent. They had a harpist (and her sister was a harpist too) and played all types of harp - Classical, Irish etc. Don't have a number but she was supplied by Derek at the Barn Dance Agency - 0208 657 2813. They must be South East based and I'm sure could go to Claremont

Hi,

Someone posted this request on the e-mail Harplist. She is getting married August 16 at Claremont, Surrey, UK and she wants a harp player - strings, not blues - to play for a small group of about 25. Not the formal Wedding March type of music. She would also prefer not to have a pedal harp or classical music. I assume that this would be a paying gig. If you know of anyone else who might be interested could you let them know too, please.

I will forward any replies either here in this thread or as PM's (personal messages) to her and then you can negotiate the rest yourself.

Some of her request:

"It appears I'm getting married .. :) .. in August (on the 16th), in an outdoor ceremony being held within a grove of yew trees in the grounds of a National Trust landscaped garden (Claremont, for those of you who might know Surrey). It will be a small ceremony of no more than 25 people, and wouldn't you know it, we thought it would be absolutely lovely to have a harper play at the appropriate bits of the ceremony (no, I do NOT want the Wedding March, it's not that kind of ceremony .. !)."

Thanks Helen
