Hmmm. Well, I have found that intimate involvements always carry some heavy emotional baggage with them, and the longer they last the heavier it gets. If you can part on good terms, then you're doing better than a lot of people, but there's always some emotional hurt when ending a love affair.

I seem to be almost incapable of "casual" sex. Accordingly, I've been avoiding it (sex) entirely lately, and my mind is considerably more at ease. This was not so easy to do when I was younger, though.

A few thoughts on the more serious postings.

I had a casual relationship with a fruitcake once. Unfortunately I fell in love and it all became rather traumatic.

I think casual relationships are OK if you both know what you are getting into and no one else is going to get hurt. I have been in a fairly casual relationship for about three years but she has never been really happy about it. She wants more and keeps trying to give it up but keeps coming back because it is better than nothing. I can't commit to her because I also want more than I have with her.

I have also been on the wrong end of an affair by my ex-partner. For her it was just sex with a friend, for me it was the end of the relationship and I still haven't really recovered from it.

I bet Joe could lop a few of these most recent posts and no one would miss them. Bearing in mind that there is sometimes a fine line between frank versus prurient when discussing sex in all of it's ramifications (no pun intended), I think there's a boulevard separating the playful banter of most contributors from the smut introduced by a few bent on shock. It has the opposite effect for most of us--it's boring, shows no imagination, and interest in the banter vanishes. And just when we were hoping to find out if anything sunk in that we told the unendearing guest who started the thread.
