Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: GUEST,erinshaham Date: 07 Jan 05 - 11:35 PM Where can I hear "Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County?" ( or is the title "Paradise"?)? Also, where can it be purchased on CD or cassette? |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: GUEST Date: 08 Jan 05 - 12:36 PM It's called "Paradise" and one place it can be purchased on line is here - click me ...although by no means the only place. You can probably find John Prine at your local record shop. He's pretty much mainstream. |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: Clinton Hammond Date: 08 Jan 05 - 12:54 PM Or you can find him all over eMule and other PtP file sharers... |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: Auggie Date: 09 Jan 05 - 12:37 AM You can also find a lot of Prine's stuff at his record label web site: John Prine web site |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 09 Jan 05 - 12:53 AM Best part of all---tune in to Traditions (WFDU 89.1 FM in NJ) Web: www.wfdu.fm ( the Blue Clicky thing is down). On most Sundays you will hear a John Prine piece in the context of what I am doing. Bill Hahn PS: Paradise is a beauty---but many listeners have requested Sins of Menphisto---which I am still trying to understand. |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: GUEST Date: 09 Jan 05 - 12:11 PM A gem of a tune that didn't get the accolades it deserved, my opinion, was Prine's "The Late John Garfield Blues." The only song I am aware of that relates a joke within the lyrics: "Two men were standing on a bridge, One jumped and said, 'You lose,' And left the other one standing there, With the late John Garfield blues" - John Prine, "The Late John Garfield Blues" |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: GUEST,Cluin Date: 09 Jan 05 - 12:57 PM I like "Jesus: The Missing Years" |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: michaelr Date: 09 Jan 05 - 02:18 PM erinshaham -- John Denver also recorded "Paradise"; a pretty nice version. |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: pdq Date: 09 Jan 05 - 07:12 PM Is a joint rolled by 'John Prime' called a 'prime number'? |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 09 Jan 05 - 07:15 PM Probably why the spelling was wrong---hard to spell cirectlie id dat shape. Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: John Prime: where to hear recordings From: pdq Date: 09 Jan 05 - 07:24 PM That was my guess too! BTW, both Seldom Scene and Jim & Jesse do great versions of "Paradise", the song which has the phrase "take me back to Muhlenberg County". Seldom Scene's is a bit ethereal. Jim & Jesse make it more gritty and believable. |
