Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: momnopp Date: 07 Oct 05 - 12:02 AM Howdy, wonderful folk Just checking in - I'm wearing my Getaway Registrar hat here. I just wanted to say that I *won't* be checking in here for any information regarding the Getaway, so please don't PM me here hoping to get a response. One person lucked out that I had logged in to say I wouldn't be logging in... I love and adore you all, but if I spend my time playing in the threads, I will NEVER get all the pertinent info into the FSGW database! My [direct] contact information is available on all the Getaway documentation, so please use that to reach me with any registration-specific questions. I am so looking forward to seeing all the wonderful people who are coming this year. I have always loved this event and as far as I'm concerned it just gets better every year. Peace, hugs and much more music, JudyO/momnopp |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ferrara Date: 05 Oct 05 - 11:34 AM Yes, and John LaPrelle will come too, IF he can get a ride back to somewhere near Rural Retreat, VA on Sunday so's he can get to work on Monday. (Sandy is going on to Philly after the Getaway.) Any ideas for a ride for John? For those of you who are new to the Getaway, Elizabeth is a marvelous singer of Appalachian ballads (well, so is Sandy LaPrelle for that matter, and she'll be at the Getaway). Elizabeth has has a gig every single weekend since about the middle of August, she is starting at William & Mary as a freshman, and she has a really bad cold & sore throat right now. Getting to the Getaway was just not in the cards this year. We'll miss her! Claymore, I am excited that (a) it looks as if you'll be at the Getaway and (b) you're a member now, so we can PM you instead of having to phone you at work. Good-oh! Rita F |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Bill D Date: 04 Oct 05 - 05:29 PM I hear that Elizabeth cannot get there this year...college stuff, etc...but her mom, Sandy is planning to be there! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Claymore Date: 04 Oct 05 - 04:55 PM Just a couple of notes for you old timers> If you remember back a couple of years ago (2003) a young girl named Elizabeth LaPrelle sang and stunned the group with her rendition of Appalachian ballads sung with her mother (right as the movie Songcatcher came out). Also portion of the Soup Kitchen showed up at the Getaway to sing a few songs. Well both of them just finished a series of gigs at the Center of the Known Universe, Shepherdstown, WV for our annual Appalachian Folk festival and both put the crowds away. I had a little time with Elizabeth's father who told me she is in college (forget where) and has been singing up a storm with gigs through November. Well you heard her at the Getaway first. See you there! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Sep 05 - 12:47 PM Good lord, I should have reviewed this thread BEFORE mailing my check in. I was envisioning a mellow weekend of swapping songs and tunes, sipping an ale or two, with a few folks I've been corresponding with but have never actually met, and some other folks that I've had the pleasure to meet while wandering this earth. Looks like Barry Finn and his wife Justine will be traveling with me to this gathering. Good thing we'll have the van so we can bring extra foul weather gear, and extra banjos for those who need them for protection. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:21 PM Oh, we can do better than that: Dear Management: Mister Offer will be unable to conduct his scheduled class on Monday; he has answered a higher calling to attend to the needs of his flock, an international conclave of aspiring souls who rely on his spiritual guidance to save their souls and indeed, in this hour of need, their very lives. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we felt you would understand that where mortal peril is concerned, scheduling convenience must give way in favor of immediate intercession. We will take every care to ensure Father Offer is returned to you unharmed to resume his normal teaching duties (although no guarantees can be offered, due to circumstances which may well be beyond our control). Thank you for your understanding. Board of Directors Father Offer Society |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: gnu Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:10 PM Mudwenches? I fear, Amos, that your calumnious denigration, albeit conspicuously meant in frolicsome jest, may invoke countervailing repercussions from whom you seek to gain favour. Yer screwed. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Janie Date: 16 Aug 05 - 11:39 AM Joe, Try this: "Please Note. There will be no class on Monday, October 17." If this is something like an 8 session course, simply have the last class on the 9th Monday. Two months advance notice is plenty to offer on a schedule or on a schedule change. Now you have no excuse! :>) Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 16 Aug 05 - 11:22 AM The two classes I teach at church Monday Joe I don't believe in all your years working for the Codwallop-gifted Federal Gummint you never heard of calling in with a Coad. And you just cram the curriculum up a bit or give them home assignments. Hell, you can hire a TA from Manpower to watch the wee angels if it is a babysitting problem!!! A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: MMario Date: 16 Aug 05 - 10:42 AM Now, don't be unreasonable people. How can we expect Joe to take an extended weekend away from excercising his personal judgement and expressing his opinon in harrassing the Shambles by needlessly indulging himself in changing thread titles and editing posts so that they don't refresh threads? After all - joe doesn't have internet connection from the Getaway and we all know he is such a megalomaniac that the thought of three days without editing a thread without concern for his fellow posters would probably send him over the edge. naaaw- he's afraid of Sinsull. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: KT Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:40 AM No problem, Joe. Monday is a HOLIDAY!!! It's ALASKA DAY!! Tell your students you're celebrating the holiday with two ALASKANS and you can't get out of it, but that you'll teach 'em extra stuff the following week! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:18 AM Well, if the truth must be told, maybe it was my fear of SINSULL that drove me away. but I'd better not say that. Now I'm up to eight excuses, two each on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The two classes I teach at church Monday are the ones that are hard to squirrel out of. I'm thinking hard on this one, but I haven't figured a way out. I won't have an opportunity to train replacement teachers until later this year, because the programs don't start until mid-September. My wife Christina asked me who this Sinsull was, and I said she looks kind of like a prim-and-proper schoolmarm who went astray. I showed Christina Sinsull's picture, and she said that yes, she could see how Sinsull was the type of person who would give me a hard time. Of course, Christina thinks I deserve a hard time. But looking at those pictures of last year's Getaway, I thought how sad I'll be to miss seeing all those nice people this year. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ebbie Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:32 PM It is my fear that Mr. Offer has so good an imagination that he has elected to stay away entirely rather than risk the mayhem that has been promised various members of a certain gender. If this is so, would someone please disabuse him of reason for his alarm? Joe, I'm counting on seeing you there. It's going to be a GREAT year. |
