Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 24 Feb 04 - 09:07 AM Linda and I will probably have a couple of spare seats up from SE London if anyone's interested. Our basic route would be Blackwall Tunnel - M11 - A1 - A15 etc. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 24 Feb 04 - 05:28 AM Feckin' Virgin Trains!! I've just spent over half an hour trying to find tickets from Bristol to Doncaster (they'd like to charge me about 100 quid for this privilge, despite the fact that they offer a 14 day advance price of 14 quid each way). Their phone line is one of those automated ones that you have to speak to - arrrgh! Anyway, I'm going to try and bum a life to Sheffield and get a train from there. I think my mates should be going climbing that weekend (oh, the sacrifices I make for Mudcat!) so that gets me as far as Stanage Edge at least. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 24 Feb 04 - 02:58 AM Hi Skipjack, I have checked the timetables of the German and British Railways and am considering the big adventure of 17 hours train travel from my home to Barrow Haven Station, with a lively study of London Underground. But as an alternative I'll check the amenities of Ryanair and such at the weekend. (Ferry from Rotterdam is too expensive for this man.) I'm planning my arrival for Friday, and have booked my floor place long ago, remember? But two robust hooks 3 yards distant for my hammock can do, too. Wilfried |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Feb 04 - 12:16 PM I'm sure that it screws up their wrestling abilities though. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,MMario Date: 19 Feb 04 - 11:56 AM Grease not good for whelks? I've always thought they went most excellently well with drawn butter. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Feb 04 - 11:45 AM I don't think that grease is good for Whelks - we'll have to check with Oakley, but I think it might have to be mud. I'm sure that the Whelks will be naked - except for their shells of course - so you might be asking for an unfair advantage. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 19 Feb 04 - 10:05 AM Sorry Dave - grease, not mud. Nudity optional, although Oakley's proclivity for getting nekkid in the jacuzzi (before he sank under the bubbles in an untimely death) might suggest a general state of deshabille. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Feb 04 - 09:51 AM I hope that we can make your epic trip worthwhile Letty. Fib - I hope that this Whelk wrestling will be performed naked in mud ! - perhaps I should get Essex Girl to enter. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Feb 04 - 06:24 AM Tartrazine - in that case I'm not scared of your Whelks - they're Yellow. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Feb 04 - 11:28 AM Have taken out adequate whelk cover, Oaks - £57 well spent, although I believe there are real insurance companies that won't take any money for whelk insurance, and will welcome complete beginner wrestlers!!! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 18 Feb 04 - 11:07 AM Whatever you do Fib, don't give that Skip E-Wing £57, otherwise someone will post with an amusing name, using exclamation marks and bold type. I have just prodded Ripper - the most promising of the wrestling whelks. What a difference a bit of carbo and tartrazene can make! Fiesty and aggressive with a deft and damaging touch of the foot. At this rate, entrants may have to sign a disclaimer. Oi! Dave Bryant, I can assure you there is nothing reverse-spiral about my whelks. This sort of thing may be ok in Walton-on-the-Hyphens, but this is the north, where a spiral only goes in one direction. Such accusations, across a crowded bar would end in the premature demise of a pint pot, a hasty evacuation of the premises, bloodshed, an ambulance and handshakes in the morning. 'appen. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Feb 04 - 09:50 AM Dammit, the kazoo was the ace up my sleeve! (Actually, I forgot the kazoo for the Portaferry meet, but replaced it with a more effective form of terror - my fiddle... I will be bringing that to the People's Republic of 'Ull, as the Greg the Oil Baron postively encourages wanton beginners' fiddlin'. I reckon 10 sets of the few polkas I know will blast the whelks into submission.) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 18 Feb 04 - 09:28 AM You are not allowed to use a kazoo as a weapon ! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Feb 04 - 08:59 AM Oakley sweetie, I have double-jointed thumbs and hips - I hope this does not preclude me from the contest. I am prepared to make it fairer on the whelks by donning a blindfold. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 18 Feb 04 - 07:43 AM Oh why does the winkle always turn to the right, Turn to the right, turn to the right Why does the winkle going upstairs at night Put his little nightshirt on and turn to the right Tail first he toddles up to bed He pulls his little door down tight on his head But why does the winkle always turn to the left When he comes down for breakfast in the morning I am informed by my friends at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex that this doesn't hold true for Whelks though, as Neptunea Contraria the reverse spiral Whelk is quite commonly found in that vicinity. Is this the reason that you are enquiring about how the Whelk wrestling entrants are organised in their dexterity, Oaklet ? Incidently, Essex Girl cooks a superb Paella as will be attested to by the various attendees of our BBQs - perhaps she could use Whelks in one ? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 18 Feb 04 - 06:41 AM I have put a dozen or so on an intensive fitness program and a special diet of Quavers in order that the whelk-wrestling contests will be evenly balanced. Could potential participants let me know well in advance, stating whether or not you are left handed or allergic to satsumas. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Feb 04 - 05:28 AM My dear Lard Skip, I am concerned about the lack of activities on the Monday. My liver transplant may well be scheduled for that evening, and as it is a public holiday, I suggest a festive bout of grease-wrestling (whelks optional) during the daytime hours. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Oaklet Date: 18 Feb 04 - 03:03 AM £57???? What a rip-off!!!!!! There are sessions all over the world (most of which I've been to) where you can learn how to be as good as me for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If any player has got £57 to burn on such a pointless excercise, they can just put it behind the bar at the Geriatric Eel and Pram whilst us experinced sessioneers rip along with gay abandon!!!!!!!!!! Indeed!!!! etc. etc. |

He's VERY mild-mannered ... Hope you'll have a great festival, anyway! As to the campsite: I'm not sure whether I'll be bringing the car, but if I do I'll need a parking space, so I'd be interested. |

But thanks Skipjack...I'm sure we'll all have fun... I'm just sorry you won't all get to see Hull at it's best... WITH US IN IT!! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 04 Feb 04 - 08:03 AM Brid Widder, although I don't believe I am your accuser, I feel I ought to reply as the organiser, and say that I am sorry you feel insulted. I really didn't want all the shouting for and against the date that happened earlier on, as I only wanted two things. Firstly, that everyone accepts that the Eurogathering always happens on the first weekend in May, and secondly that I want everyone to do what they want, and attend the function that appeals to them most. I don't think the rather shrill debate on date was helpful, and I regret even more that it has left you feeling insulted, and ultimately ignored. I did respectfully point out to Dave that a lot of folk he mentioned had other festivals they intended to support, and that it was OK with me. Please accept my apology for whoever insinuated you were engaging in Trolling, and I hope that you and all the regulars going to the Moor and Coast have a wild old time. |

'I think we should be trying to get all the mob who went to Stony Stratford there at least. That would include Micca & Kat, LtS & Manitas, and McGrath. ... What about McFat, Raggy and co as well.' Well I've been forgotten but I was at Stony Stratford too... this sounds fun... and close to home I'm in Hull... several of of us did try to point out early on that this clashes with Moor & Coast http://www.moorandcoast.co.uk/ ...I know McFat is there... he's on the guestlist! & I'm fairly sure Raggytash will be there too. Can I say I feel very offended at being called a Troll for mentioning a previous committment that prevents me from welcoming you all to my home town... have fun ... |

Lack of elsan dumping facilities doesn't really matter to us - we only ever use it for recycling beer. Perhaps we ought to find out who else is interested in camping or caravanning. According to one of the postings above, the Ducks are not planning to bring their caravan now - any change to that if there is this site available ? So - Good Morning Campers - please declare yourselves. |
