From: alison

Thought we could do with a shorter thread seeing as it is "radio" day tomorrow, (even if it isn't LIVE).

The Tavern has magically transported itself and if you open the side door you can step outside into... well whatever sort of scenery you like........ bit like the holodeck in TNG, (or Mr Benn... for any of you UK types around my age).......

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *

As I look out I can see mountains covered with the greens and purples of heather....... a flat grassy area complete with an ancient stone circle and a clear crystal stream winding through......

I could do with the rest after all that "hosing' with Mick... if anyone's looking for me I'll be under the big tree in the sunshine.......

* a wild and lonely eagle, up in the summer sky
flies high o'er Shanagolden, where my love Lily lies...
*

that crystal clear stream is cold!

So I will just start my day off with a nice warm toddy...

My goodness, who are all these people stumbling towards me dazzled by the morning sunlight? Oh, my, they are Mudcatters, fresh (fresh?) from the Tavern. Well, let's turn that video camera towards the doorway, son, this should be an interesting episode in your home-school documentary. Not only did we get lots of interesting travel footage and close ups of different kinds of insects, plants, and animals out here in the landscape, but now we can do some very interesting interviews of a few reprobate -I mean reputable folksingers.

What a lovely, unspoiled vista! You know what I'm thinking... there's just enough room between the crystal stream and the stone circle for a lively game of touch football! Alright, Alison, hike the ball on three... Mmario block for the count of 5, then look for a screen pass... Alice, go to the ancient monument, cut left and look for a long pass. If everybody's covered, I'll lateral to Catspaw- Spaw, can you run with a football in one hand and a glass of Jack Daniels in the other? Doug, block for Spaw, and watch out for Katlaughing, she'll trip you when the Ref's not looking. OK...on three... break!

Did anyone besides me ever read Heinlien's "Door into Summer" - with the cat that had to go to every door in the house before he was convinced that one didn't lead into a summer garden?

Pst, Alison- wake up! Somebody left the door open and the inmates escaped. Here, I brought you a pint to get started. It's much better than coffee - no cafein, and loaded with bioflavinoids. Hmmmmm, good tasting too. Gee, I really like this place. Is it your secret trysting place? It's nice, but it's kinda hard (sorry, no pun intended) to get in the mood with all those people screaming and shouting and throwing that funny spheroid around and running into each other down among the stones. Hey, who's that gut (sorry, meant to type "guy") sporting around in a thong - oh, shite - somebody snapped his string - looks like they broke it - damn, hope he doesn't hurt anybody with that thing. He better hope nobody trys to tackle him and grabs a convenient handle. Hey - wanna skinny dip in the little pool in the stream. Then we could, well, you know, I mean, if you want, sneak up the little glen over there and pick some wild mountain thyme. What? Jeez, Alison, you never told me you were married, before. Uh, excuse me, will you? I think I just saw Bridie down by the stream. Oh, uh, say Hi! to yer old man for me.

EEEYUUUCK! 'Spaw, some people are people are lust magnets, some attract paranormal happenings, some find warmth and love wherever they go. You are a wierdness magnet. (I like that in a person.)

Banjer....if ya need some banjo strings look no further... I have a whole drawer full of used banjo strings that I've been saving for years. Of course the first string is missing in most sets. I have this vega extra long neck banjo and whenever I tune's her ups to open "c" tuning (mainly for the Brown County Waltz) I stands a pertty good chanch of breaking the first sting.

I wish you guys & gals would stop calling my crow a heron. When that bar stool fell on him it broke both of his legs (hence the leg splints). The next time he fell he broke his neck (hence the neck brace) and whilest he was rolling around on the floor in pain, he smeared some of the left over lime jello on his feathers. It apparently reacted with his parrot paint and made him look blue. Now he just stands around in the pool rather embarrassed because everyone is calling him a heron.

I was just over on the "HELP: BIT WHISTLES - LITTLE FINGERS" thread that reminded me of our sixteen foot (five meters for you metrics) penny whistle. It's an 8X low "d" whistle.....well ya may be thinken 'whose got fingers big enough to play that kinda whistle' ......the answer is NO ONE....what you have to do is get someone who is really full of hot air (mostly likely someone right here in the Tavern) to blow on the thing......then you need six people to sit on the holes and spry enough to stand up and sit down at the appropriate time......bare buns seem to work the best as they make a tighter seal..... So far we have only managed slow airs...however, with the kind of folks here in the tavern we could possibly have a fast jig competition???? One slight problem, this whistle does have a tendency to backfire at times......

Well Good Morning to All !!! ....How was that?...New Attitude here gang.......Had a nice, calm, uneventful evening with the family. Max and Bert called from the radio show and that was fun. I got to thinking that my problem with the door is all attitude, like in the movie "Cool Hand Luke," where the saying was, "Boy, you gotta' get your mind right." Damn good flick, except that everytime it's on national TV we get some newbie request for "Plastic Jesus" and........whoa up there Spaw, don't get upset, get your mind right.........OK, so except for a brief nightmare where Alice the Dominatrix was going after the homely girls while Leej was playing Blake saying "I got your whip right here Doll," and Jeri threw clams at Beebs while the Waylon Heron lay wimpering after a session with Alice and.........Hold it, forget that, it was brief and I'm gettin' my mind right.......just like in "Cool Hand Luke".............OK, that's better.......Now everybody else is enjoyong the "door".....I can too, I can too, I can too, I can too...got my mind right........OK...Here we go, just pull it open with a smile and ....... uh,huh .......... oy ..............DOUG!!! SHUT THE FRIGGIN' DOOR!!!...........Well just fuck a bunch of attitude changes and give me a triple Jack on the rocks.......maybe I'll go for the naked tootling idea...maybe not...Thanks Doug, nice outfit...kinda' Joe the Bartender with a toolbelt...whatever..................... stupid ass door............

Anyone thinking about joining the sixteen foot recorder team should consider what note you'd be best fitted for. Look at your regular "d" pennywhistle and note the size of the holes then imagine increasing the size sixteen fold. If you are petite you may want to try out for the F# or C# holes. The XL's should consider D or E holes, and normal sized folkes would be best suited for A or B. It's your choice....

The prototype instrument was constructed from a large white pine log. As expected several team members complained of slivers in tender areas. As soon as we can hyjac....er...when our supplies come in, a special 16 foot pvc pennywhistle will be constructed and should prove less traumatic for team members....

I'll have to check over the Mudcat photo section again if you need help with your position. Any suggestions for possible tunes???????

Ssssweet Alison - methinks yer old man is a very luck bloke. But you better tell him to be careful lest "The New" Big Mick and I team up agin him.

Cap't Bob - if your directoral skills are up to actually coordinating all the backfire sitters, you might get that thing to sound like a back porch jug band. Why, with a bit of rehearsal, you could probably put out a single with Jeri's Planxty Fanny Power and watch is blast right to the top of the charts. Ever read Mark Twain's "1601". It ought to be required reading for any serious member of the backfire team.

When's the video due out?

My most sincere apologizes Peter, I checked back and by golly I did let RECORDER slip in there......er...an attempt was made to build a sixteen foot recorder but for obvious reasons it wouldn't work.....seems no one could stay seated on the thumb hole.. Velcro didn't work.....and straps and safety belts couldn't hold up under the force of gravity.

If should have read PENNYWHISTLE finger holes only....that way everything is up and above board.

The tune selections were great....they are all great....and Jeri...Planxty Fanny Power seems to say it all. It'd be hard to beat that one..

paddymac....I can see it all now...*star dumb*

All this outside is really pretty, where can I set up this barbecue gear? Got three grills so as any vegetarians don't need to worry about contamination, even a seperate one for fish. loads of burgers, pork steaks, mackeral and langoustines; some vegeburgers, banana's, garlic bread, all manner of good eating.

Who's on serving duty? please bring a couple of magnums of chilled champagne, Moet et Chandon i think.

come on everyone! tuck in and let's celibrate all things good on mudcat, my wife is dragging me off on holiday tommorrow - maybe for as much as two weeks, so I look forward to seeing you all when I get back.

oh! dont forget the silly apron aswell - which do you want - the scantily clad woman or the "Barbecue King" one?

Shall we throw some rosemary on to add a bit of flavour? smells good too, and maybe some hickory chips? No rosemary if any of the girls are pregnant though.

Hey, jon & Mick, I can't resist the offer of a meal & some relaxation. I've been needing some TLC lately. School's off to a good start, but it's hectic. Things are a little insecure w/ a new principal & it is darn hot & humid in New York!!! MM, you have a great time in Maryland! Make sure you get your caffeine ration! jon, Duane D. will really appreciate the grill set aside for the vegetarians. So often at get-togethers, they are left in the lurch. Well, I'm just going to sit back & enjoy. Anybody want to keep me company--chat, sing for me? Doug, I think you can get away w/ letting the young sprouts do the work. You've earned a rest & you & I haven't talked enough lately. Maybe this weekend--how about it? Just keep catspaw back. He's been sounding zanier than usual lately--something about a door?!

The barbacue sounds GREAT!! Say, I have some mole sauce (don't know how to do accents. it isn't made from Cleigh's little cousin. it's that marvelous Mexican stuff) I also have some WIKED hot berbere [paste that is left over from some Ethiopian projects.

Aside from handing you boys the jars, I plan to sit back with several pintes of the black vile stuff and relax. Lots of food today (Thai sampler day) and a wedding party for thirty, and an Ethiopian sampler tomorrow. These 14 hour days in this odd, humid weather in my HOT kitchen are beginning to wear, even after a nice break in Toronto.

Say, who taught Catspaw to do blue cliskey things? For the Jesus Dance, he should have his license revoked. I nearly had perfectly good beer coming out my nose.

Perhaps we could start out our penny whistle efforts with Hot Cross Buns, a classic beginner's tune.

Ahoy thar Mick ~~~ well about the only barbecue trick I know involves cooking up a six legged deer. I kid you not, I counted the legs myself. The trick is to smoke the legs up real good. The night of the party ya have to have a really big bed of coals with a metal grate to hold the meat and lots of beer to drink while waiting for the meat to cook. We may have used a bit of hickory, however by the time my memory was a bit foggy. The meat ends up being a brown~red color & you just can't beat the taste. Actually it could have been an 8 legged deer. The other parts that sort of looked like leggs had Goodyear tread marks from one end to the other.

Serve it up with a big pot of hobo stew ~~ Ummmmmmmm.

Well, I've just survived my annual performance evaluation, again, and I need a stiff one and some good company. I "need improvement" on clutter control, otherwise am a valuable resource.

U Utah: Don't every let ANYONE call you a valuable respource. Do you see what happens to resources in this country??

I have discoverred that if you cut up a big slab of ribs (I prefer pork) and throw 'em in the crock pot, pour over them an entire jar of your favorite BBQ sauce, do NOT add water, and leave for a good long while, you've got some tasty stuff to eat.

here's a right big ol' mess of crawfish from out the crick. The berbere (did I spell that right?) sauce would make a tasty marinade for some of them, the rest I'm going to do up with a little ginger and garlic. It's all I've got time for tonight, still have to pack.

and I sure will have a fine time in MD. CRAB CAKES! (Though we STILL haven't found anyone who will serve them to us for breakfast.)

Hey, guys! Don't do all the langostinos the way you usually do. There's a marvelous sauce they make in Barbados that is just perfect for langos. It's a yellow mustard with a mixture of peppers diced up and mixed in. I had a jar of it that sort of got lost in the back of the fridge for a few months (well, okay, maybe it was really years),. But anyway, when I found it again and drug it out, the durn lid had rusted and collapsed into the sauce. Wonder what it does to your tummy if it eats the lids off the bottle? And when ya git reddy to start cooking them steaks, don't spend no money on hickory. Jist gitcha some cheap briquettes (durn that's a big word) and when the coals git rite fer cooking, thro on a couple seed cones from that magnolia tree in the south end of the field. Soak 'em in the crik a bit first. They'll make up a nice mess o' smoke that'l give you a steak better'n any other you ever et. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm good!

'Spaw, honey, don't you think you'd be a little more comfortable if you'd just set yourself down here with your back to the door? Susan A-R, sorry I missed you when we came through the *door* at the same time. I am sorry about your dad. I know what you mean about not being able to help more. All last fall and winter, I felt really guilty about being four hours away from mom and my sister, bet, have the sole responsibility of dealing with her, a full time job, and a troublesome teenage son she's raising alone. My phone bills were horrendous, but at least mom was pretty lucid until just the last few days.

Here...have another one on me, just take a deep breath and blow out all that stress. Maybe one of the guys can remember to give you a good massage, with lotion, only! I'm pretty good at getting those trigger points in the shoulders, neck, and back, if they are too busy calming the 'Spaw down.

I TRIED putting a content filter on the door, but it wouldn't fit. Sorry 'bout that. Still recovering from a great weekend in Maryland and a long trip back that involved laughing our way across several states...my laugh muscles HURT! But while I was down there, not only did my normal ren-faire stuff, but even ran across a 'catter! The world she's a growin' smaller every day!

AND....I experienced my first 'possum sighting! We were in a gas station on Crownsville Road in Maryland, when we saw this small dark object skittering around in the road. It was pretty small, and though at the distance it was hard to tell, it looked mighty like the pictures I've seen of Cleigh. Complete to the the tail curving up and across the body. Whatever it was, and I'm convinced that if it wasn't Cleigh it was a near relative; it ran back and forth and 'round every time a vehicle would pass, until at last (Thank Goodness!) it safely reached the far side of the road and disappeared into a pile of brush.

Who names these things anyway...if I'm going to get my butt kicked by a storm it shoud at least carry a name like Bubba, or Max, or Mick, or Spaw...something intimidating. Now about that drink...

Gee Mikey, you done stumbled into the wrong place to ask a serious question! Maybe some of the more knowledgeable Mudcatters will help you out this time, but if you've searched the database already for such a song, maybe you would want to start a new thread that would capture a bit more attention. Something like, "Need lyrics to "Who's gonna dance with Sally Ann?" Then in your message write all the lyrics you know as you did in the one above. Check out the database first though. It's that space just above where all the Threads start.

Gee, Paul, I was just looking at hurricane names today, and found Bubba for you here... If you want to see the full list of what's going to be comin' at us for the next 5-6 years, NOAA has a history of hurricane names and official name list. Personally, I kind of like the idea of "Harvey Wallbanger", who's next on the list for this year after Gert. So hunker down, Paul, with a bottle o' the best, and we'll talk to you when your power comes back on...

Jeri, can you do your generator magic for Paul? I actually kindof liked the concert by candlelight without the squeals of pain from the sound system...

Bert, as a former Midwestern gal who believes flamingos are an essential part of lawn decor, I think they SHOULD get into the Jello - what's a Flamingo Party without Jello salad?

Spaw, you leave that wombat alone!!!

hope the power stays on HERE!...we just hooked up the new computer, and this is the first message and the first web site visited..(naturally)....

HOORAY! hamsters on part time till we get data and stuff transferred to this machine, then they will work only as consultants (at grossly inflated salaries!) as we need the old machine for various things.

So a new era dawns in the Bill D/Ferrara realm....zooooooommmm...450mghz

Wouldn't they be minihamsters?? I've just stopped in for a brief round of the black file stuff, then off to my well-earned slep. If I had one of your massages tonight Dough, I'd probably wind up in the jello with the flamingo (face dowo) Whew, and it's only Tuesday. I did have a nice, although brief visit with my Dad tonight, and he soulds pretty lucid and in good form. I'll take those small gifts any time.

Hmmm, Hurricane Spaw. Has a ring to it.

Susan

Lamarca, Welcome back, and the flamingos are such a welcome addition to the decor, which seems these days to be much constituted of dried specks of jello and kiwi juice and stretched out thong bikinis and feather boas draped hither and yon. We could use a flamingo or two to class up the joint.

Speaking of joints -- I'll take another black and tan... and I won't inhale (it always comes right back out my nose...)
