I'm taking part in the 3rd Biennial academic conference on Robin Hood studies. As it's being held at the University of Western Ontario this year (previous conferences were held in Rochester, NY in 1997 and Nottingham in 1999), I felt Canadian versions of the legend needed to be discussed. So, I'll be chairing a workshop called Robin Hood in Canada. (I'll also be delivering a paper on modern interpretations of the sheriff.)

Anyway, I was recently flipping through Bronson's collection of tunes for the Child ballads, and I noticed how many of the tunes came from the maritimes.

So, I'd love to talk to some people about the Canadian folk tradition of Robin Hood.

Some ballads, such as Robin Hood and Queen Catherin and Robin Hoods Fishing, are longer and more complete than any other versions.

"New" ballads include "Robin Hood and the Bride" (a relative of the Alan a Dale story), "Robin Hood and the Old Wife" (a reworked version of Robin Hood and The Bishop), "Robin Hood and the Sheriffe" and "Robin Hood and the King" (using some concepts in other ballads.)

The book is available with an introduction and notes by Stephen Knight (a copy is currently resting on my lap).

Does anyone know of an easy way to order books.
It's no wonder that Amazon.com has never had a profitable year, they do their darndest not to sell books.
