Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: katlaughing Date: 17 Jul 12 - 06:57 PM Thank you, maeve, I wasn't sure which language it came from. She does seem to like, though it looks odd to me and sounds unlikely. Still has that "right" feel. Yes, I do wish some others would join in. The fellow who told me about this, did his thing, a poem a day, for forty days. I'm going to at least try to reach that as a goal. Life would be unbearable Without the little bits A cuddly kitten Loving dog Grandson tall and proud. Amidst the news of illness Sadness and strife, A respite comes to my fingertips With the brush of soft fur And kind hugs. I send them on to my friend Whose children are gravely ill. May they find solace on their journeys And may their mother's heart know ease. kat |

Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jul 12 - 12:38 AM Ah, sorry about missing a couple of days. Thanks for the lift, maeve.:-) Not a poem, just a little bit of what's going on...yesterday, my youngest, Morgan's mom, turned 35 which is unbelievable to me. It was also Woody Guthrie's birthday and Bastille Day. Ever since we got the new Siamese kitten, a little over two weeks ago I've been searching for the right name. As she showed us more and more of her personality several came to mind, but never felt just right. An old Siamese male we had who was very special to me was named Heyokah, after the Trickster in Native American lore. He was the one who would do everything backwards to make us laugh and show us how silly we could be when fretting, etc. My Heyo always made me laugh. Anyway, since getting her, I've found myself slipping and calling for our now-time Siamese male, Kipling, by Heyokah's name. Heyo has been so much on my mind since she came into the house. So, my daughter back East sent me one today which is Native American for "little one/girl" which is what I've been calling her, a lot. That name was Ayasha. I took that and added a bit to it and came up with Heyasha (hay AH shaw)...she loves it and is already responding to it. It's nothing I would have ever guessed and I have never taken this long or had this much trouble naming a cat, but she is very special.:-) |

Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: maeve Date: 13 Jul 12 - 01:50 PM Spaw- Check your PMs, please. Three of last year's bantam hatchlings were injured late in the fall. One is progressing but still can't stand, one seems to have retained a permanent injury, the third recovered fully but is tiny compared to her hatchmates outside. All are cheerful, with good appetites and determination to learn whatever I ask them to try. They respond well to the PT and bandaging, and have taught me a great deal; most recently how to bathe them in a way that allows them to feel safe and enjoy the warmth and freedom of movement. They also enjoyed the low setting of the hairdryer used to dry those wet feathers! The little one is about the size and color of a big snowball; perfectly proportioned, intelligent, and full of personality. She has always needed- been driven to seek- lots of cuddling and conversation. She keeps her two bigger sisters (D'Anvers Millefleur bantams) company and annoys them just enough to keep them mobile and healthy. We take all three out to visit the outside flock so they remember one another; if we'd left them in the flock they'd have been pecked to death because of the flock's fear of anything they don't understand. Hope that answers that question! Now back to work outside. |

Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: katlaughing Date: 12 Jul 12 - 08:40 PM They are some of the most adorable chickens I've ever seen, Spaw, just darling. Maeve, the beautiful words which you have already shared linger in my mind and heart...no need to apologise. Just do as you feel the desire and are able. Languid, languorous, lazy, Heat shimmers in a mini-mirage Out my backdoor. The cats are stretched full out The dogs' tongues hang out Both tactics work well for cooling, so... Nope, can't do it! Think of the sight: Me, lying on the floor Tongue hanging out as I pant Like a dog? Don't think so, But, I shall turn up the cool air For us all. |

Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jul 12 - 03:00 PM Beautiful, DaveO! I hope you shared it with her, too.:-) Wonders of Sleep Deep, restful sleep Came to me last night; the first in ages... No pain, no tossing and turning Still, quiet, perfect temperature. At one point the stillness was so quiet It awakened me. A visit to the "loo" Brought a warm, fuzzy kitten Reaching up to brace one paw on my knee With the other outstretched and a soft "mew" I pick her up, cradle her like a baby Croon and rock her back and forth in my arms. She closes her eyes, her head instantly relaxes And falls to one side of my arm. So soft, content Safe and funny...she has made me smile more in the Past two weeks than anything. |

It is so fun to watch. She is such a bold thing..I think her name may wind up being "Moxie" 'cause she sure has it! MY MUSE (rough draft) I saw my muse in a vision the other night. Her hair was long and tangled, her dress a terrible sight Dishevelled and dreary, she turned to me and smiled A tenuous "are we okay?" smile, asking to come back. I knew she'd gone but not so close. Seems, you see, She was there in my heart all along, I just needed the key Intangible, elusive, golden, glowing, a one of a kind I may have found it...tarnished and buried, ready for a good polishing. Welcome back, Muse. Would you like the "works," today? New cut and style, fresh draperies for that willowy look? Ah...that feels better, now for a mind-meld between thee and me. |

Subject: RE: One-A-Day-getting positive thru creativity-share From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 09 Jul 12 - 05:49 PM This is mine, but not written fresh for this time, this appearance. But it is (to me, at least) one of most satisfying poems/songs I've ever written. Way back, when Hans, our Down's son, was a baby, my Beautiful Wife was breast feeding him to the best of her ability. One evening I was holding him, rocking gently, thinking of the breast feeding project, and playing around with a tune and words for him, thoughts and words things slipped easily into my mind and voice for this Alas, I cannot set down the quiet, soothing melody. Lullaby for a Breast-Fed Baby Go to sleep, my little boy Dream about a milk-filled booby! Mama nurse you in a while When your time has come. When your time has come, my boy, Mama milk there'll be in plenty. When your Mama has let down And nursin' time has come. When nursing time has come, my boy, Mama-milk will fill your tummy. With the nipple in your mouth, You'll never need your thumb. Dave Oesterreich |

So maybe this is going to be an evening thing for me. Robert Earl Keen croons to me Weeping steel strings in the background Dogs sack out in the hallway Just close enough to glimpse the Menace The new kitten has her bluff in on them. Charging like an old-time jouster She skitters down the way on tippy-toes Puffed up like a blow-fish, tail erect Eyes flashing, deep warning growls Echoing off the walls, she charges. I can hear the dogs' nails on the linoleum As they scramble to get away. She pulls up short, watching with a twitchy tail Satisfied of a successful conquest once more. (ARggghhh...inner editor definitely off tonight.:-) |

He's known me since I was 16. We were talking on the phone last night and he said, "You're feeling better, aren't you?" I said sure, each day a bit better. He said, "I can tell because you are arguing with me." Made me LOL...part of our problem was we each had to have the last word and were always arguing about everything! It was funny and touching...his giving me a glimpse of ourselves when so young and ardent. I feel an old friend type tenderness for him. And, then he reminded me of the bell-bottom hip huggers I wore that year!LOL |

Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 06 Jul 12 - 11:27 PM Ooops , left out a line...Delete the other one, please. Thank You Thank you....I don't know about the poetry corner. I've got a lot of stuff like that..some with music..some waiting. Here's another, that we performed years ago......(still looking for a vocalist...one of us died). Bring Out the Roses I heard a death rattle In the wind. It ain't what I thought It should have been. Shadows of the past.. Will be cast on wanton ones.. Dreams will be shattered, By setting suns Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out and Share your sins, Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out.. And let's begin.... Again........and Again. Streets become cellophane, In the midnight rain. It's like walking on sheets, Of plastic quarantine. Oh find me an angel, That trips from L.A. From the city that cries, Oh baby, take me away... Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out and Share your sins, Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out.. And let's begin.... Again........and Again. Tried in vain, baby.. To breath this fire. Like a madman I was cast, To try to escape this desire. Oh find me mooring anchors In the sun, Find me sailing seaward, Until I'm done. Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out and Share your sins, Bring out the roses, Bring 'em out.. And let's begin.... Again........and Again. And,Again........and Again. Copyrighted 1980...(Me) Warmest Regards, GfS P.S....Still need a vocalist....the one that 'is no longer with us', was the vocalist on "My Lady" and "What Would You Care?"...which I assume you've heard on YouTube. Wait till you hear the stuff with the female vocalist..but I haven't uploaded it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jul 12 - 02:32 PM Kewl, maeve. GfS- that's a great piece. Another place it should be chronicled, imo, is the Mudcat Poetry Corner. Last night as I walked through the house doing this and that, I found I was hard on the trail of a morganus nepos...an ON flashlight on the floor pointing under the bed from an earlier foray whilst looking for the new 7 mo. kitten who'd done a Houdini on us; long internet cable left draped across the kitchen floor to where he had his laptop set up earlier; another OFF flashlight on the floor pointing to under the sofa. A couple of other small things. He's usually more careful. Yesterday he was in a rush to go home for a special treat/surprise. This morning, "Little One" (working title) is showing more of her subtle Siamese personality. Every morning since we got her a week ago Wednesday, she has spent the whole morning and a lot of the afternoon on our bed asleep...safe from dogs. Not anymore. She has those dogs scattering when she charges them out of nowhere. There are intervals where everyone sits around just looking, then someone moves and she goes like a streak of lightning. I predict the right name coming to us very soon now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 06 Jul 12 - 04:07 AM I just posted this on another thread, before i saw this one.... This Side of You On a soft, and breathless morning.. Beneath the painted sky, You held onto your longing.. And I was fooled by mine. Oh moments, they were so fine... But words concealed What is revealed... This side....this side of you.. I know...this side of you Now watch the rage pass on, Across the stormy sky, Can you hear the voice inside you? It is I. From the traffic to the barren stillness The heart deceives the head, Just take a look at what was left you.. It was your heart that was fed, I understood what you said.. But words concealed What is revealed... This side....this side of you.. I know...this side of you Now watch the rage pass on, Across the stormy sky, Can you hear the voice inside you? It is I. I saw you in the moonlight, I saw you in a fog of wonder How does the heart take delight? When empty words just leave you Choking inside? ........................... I don't know why exactly, but maybe this was as good as thread as any to put this on....(you should hear the guitars for it..it took us 31/2 months to play it in sync, and as lush as it sounds.) it's an original (copyrighted) piece...and I sure could use a good vocalist, out there!) Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: Megan L Date: 06 Jul 12 - 03:28 AM There are certain things humans seem predisposed to be anxious about, perhaps these are some kind of folk memory or self preservation. The howl of a wolf reminds us that dangers are real and fog the great consumer that eats colour from our world and distorts sound and senses. One of the draw backs of living on an island in summer is fog it has lingered for three days now. In the need to escape I head of in the car usually these days journeys are along the main road Stromness to Kirkwall and back. Today I decided to drift to seek out places where the fog wasn't. It led me to places I hadn't seen in years and sights I have never seen. Out at the Stenness loch the sun was out and in the mood to play it could see it glinting and laughing as it played hide and seek across the rippling surface. At the Stones of Stenness it lit up the faces of the visitors walking around the ancient stones you could see their bodies relax in its warmth. Farther on I came on an abandoned house the windows beginning to rot out and the garden overgrown. I remember many years ago stopping at that house so my dad could talk to the man tending the lovely garden. Does it make me sad to see the decay? No time passes and nature has her own beauties and will reclaim what's hers. All to soon however it is time to turn homeward deciding against returning the way I came I turned onto a road I hadn't used in many years. It is single track and twisty most people prefer to go up to the main road where they can drive faster. Today I did not want to rush back to my meeting so I meandered my way along the top of the loch. In the warmth I had let down the window as I drove I watched what appeared to be lazy spirals of smoke rising from a field up ahead. As I arrived at the scene I quickly closed the window what I had been seeing was not smoke but swirling spirals of a fly hatch. What a fascinating sight I have seen may hatches around the loch but never have I seen them form miniature whirling black tornado's along the verge. I turned onto the main road relaxed and smiling no longer filled with anxiety about having someone else in the house. The difference in perception carried me through the day she came and we worked together well my house will get back to being organised . |

Another new one: ******** New Moon Lilt Sleep slips through breezes, damply slides, Drips down with rain to moistened earth. Sleep evades your weary eyes, Sluices forth with New Moon's birth. Hushabye, shushabye, sleep child, sleep. Sleep whispers secrets, sweetly sings An echoed Wood Thrush evening song. Sibilance of sound brings rest As boats of night float birds along. Hushabye, shushabye, sleep child, sleep. Sleep wonders, wanders; drowsily drifts Through nighttime meadows, sparkling streams. Gleaming salamanders sip Beneath the scattered lights of dreams. Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: katlaughing Date: 04 Jul 12 - 07:00 PM LOL, bravo, Maeve of Maine! So far, she is an independent cuss A twitchy-tailed streak of sable and white Unless her tummy is full, then, oh then! You can have your way with her...roll her over And rub her pink-tinged belly, scratch behind the ears, Tug on each paw and rub between the paw pads, 'til she Demurely pulls away or attacks with all four and a couple of bites! She definitely see things that aren't there, muttering under her breath. A low warning to within hearing range, I am Cat, hear me An Attempt The sky is vast and overcast A pall of smoke and clouds Mixing to thwart the sun, Ironically, burning bringing Such protection from other burning. The river is down so low Great patches of flat, oval stones Pave the shallows in which people play, Something more life-threatening in high water times. A slight breeze stirs the chimes And dissipates the heat a bit. My prayer flags have been in Constant motion wafting our hopes, Gratitude, thoughts of others aloft To the Great Physician, Creator, God/dess Or just into our hearts where we can nestle And protect...may all in need be assured Of such help and the Beauty all around them. |

Subject: RE: BS: Positivity through creativity-daily share From: Megan L Date: 04 Jul 12 - 10:58 AM ok you did say daily share *daft wicked grin* The old man a few houses along the road came to visit the other day. His accent is very broad and he has always had an impediment where his tongue would appear to be to big for his mouth making him hard work to have a conversation with. Yet whenever he comes he brings a wee treat perhaps a poke o crisps or some biscuits . Yesterday it was a box of Tunnock's teacakes oh how the years rolled back. I remember the look of uninhibited joy on my mum's face when she unwrapped one of these rare treats. We never had much money for fancies but mum would put a sixpence away each week and as Christmas approached she would order our precious Tunnock's box. One by one the contents would be laid out on the table before being stored in the cupboard for the festive period. A slab of cherry cake (a Madeira or pound cake with added fruit) a slab of sultana cake the Madeira was always saved for trifle, a box of carmel wafers and the teacakes. My mother would share anything she had with anybody but the teacakes were her special treat and even my dad who ate cakes and biscuits as soon as he found them would leave them alone. When the men were all at work (I was a very late baby) I would be drawn up to sit on her knee and learn the great secret. You see some people lick the chocolate but that is just plain wrong. You have to gently tap round the biscuit base with your teeth till the roof of the dome separates then eat the chocolate before dipping your tongue into the soft mallow and savouring the pleasure as it melts in your mouth. Only when you have almost finished the mallow are you allowed to bite into the crisp biscuit base the art being to leave just enough mallow on the base to make it dreamy. Much as I enjoyed our Tunnock's days it was only far later in life that the true secret she had been teaching me revealed itself. When life is busy and fraught with cares and chores it is those Tunnock's moments, those simple pleasures which prove to be the batteries which give us |

Kind of like a story thread or the poetry corner, but this one is wide-open. Links to Pictures of creative activities for the day would be appropriate, too.
