Best thing about hospital it makes you appreciate not being in hospital. But it sounds as if they did their stuff. (Here's my hospital thank you song.) |

There's no place like home"...and pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! Damn it Cletus. No matches. This is a hospital! Good, now everything is back to normal. |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:02 AM Still waiting.............What can I say? The doc still wants the numbers before she leaves. She'll be doing daily blood tests for awhile after she gets out, but they really do want it right before she leaves. On the plus side, Mt.Carmel is a Catholic hospital and they have fantastic macaroni and cheese on Fridays...................... Spaw |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Jock Morris Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:03 AM Spaw, 'Tis good to hear that Karen is recovering well. Good kind folk like you and her just don't deserve the amount of problems you seem to have been suffering. 2000 hasn't long to go, here's wishing that 2001 will be the start of a steady improvement in life for you both; oh and the same wish to all others here for whom 2000 has been a c**p year. Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: SINSULL Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:13 AM "fantastic macaroni and cheese on Fridays"? Either you are losing it altogether or Karen is well enough for you to get back to what's important...I guess????? What have you been feeding those two boys? Do I have start a food drive to be sure that their three food groups are not ice cream, candy and possum? Do you know that Elderly carries a line of instruments under the Catspaw label? Yours? Sorry. Too much coffee this morning. |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:36 AM Dear Mr and Mrs Spaw. Good news indeed, sorely needed around here; you have fun this weekend. Yours, Aye. Dave |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:39 AM Well ya' gotta' find a bright spot wherever you can Sins........And I'll grant you that macaroni and cheese is pretty pathetic, but everything is going so well that the frustration level is actually the biggest hurdle left. That things are good is thanks to good medicine and the good, heartwarming, thoughts and prayers from all of you. Actually, the boys are doing great through the whole thing......and for those of you who were demeaning my cooking, well, I do all the cooking here anyway. I've had a nice break since we've been eating out a lot at the hospital or bringing in fast food which the boys love! Personally, I'm ready for a good salad! Spaw |

Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Little Neophyte Date: 17 Nov 00 - 04:23 PM So the chicken soup and matzoh balls worked huh. How was the kreplach and noodle pudding? Tell me the truth Pat, Karen prefers a sweet pudding, you can tell me the truth. How was the gefilte fish? I sent sweet and she likes pepper, right? I sent the wrong thing, didn't I? Oy, I feel like chopped liver! Very happy for you guys, Love Bon |

Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Wesley S Date: 17 Nov 00 - 05:51 PM Spaw - If you are still in the mood for a good salad I've got a great southern fried possum salad recipe that I'd be willing to let you have. It gets a little tricky putting lettuce in the deep frier but it's worth it. And come to think of it I saw a fresh roadkill out on 121 this morning on the way to work that looked like it was in pretty good shape. I can check on it while I'm going home. YUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMM !! I'm glad everything is going well Pat. Take care - I know better than anyone that it's stressfull having the love of your life flat on her back for all the wrong reasons. |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: WyoWoman Date: 17 Nov 00 - 10:50 PM Good to hear things are progressing apace. Hope you got my tape -- I sent a copy so Karen can listen to the joyous crinkle of bubblewrap as she convalesces. Or coalesces. Or is it ...
nivver mindWarning: I had to take Coumadin for quite a while a few years back and every time anyone brushed past me, I got a bruise. My kids were 8 and 13 at the time, so there was a lot of brushing past, and I ended up looking like an overripe banana. (Very attractive -- and we wonder why I never remarried?) It was, of course, a small price to pay for blood that stopped congregating where it shouldn't ("Uh-oh, cheese it, guys. Here comes Officer Coumadin... better break it up ..."), but I did look moderately pummeled for the duration ... I wanted to take a nice soak in under-eye concealer ... Much love beaming your way, PansyRue |

Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: BlueJay Date: 18 Nov 00 - 12:14 AM Good news, Pat. I've been concerned. Little things like the vote in Florida pale in comparison, eh? Hopefully the ole Pro-times will stabilize and you'll all be home soon. Even though I've never met or conversed with Karen, please give her my best. I'm also very gratified that the boys are doing well. Things like this have a way of being especially hard on kids, but I have a sense that you have taken the cats by the paws and made all the difference for them. Peace, BlueJay |

Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Nov 00 - 03:07 PM This morning I was about as fried and frustrated as I ever get and I wanted somebody's ass! Karen is still in the hospital and they are trying to bring the pro-time to 3 and the doc said this AM she was at 1.6 and yet, instead of 10mg they gave her 5!! Now this seemed a bit bassackwards to us and I wanted some answers.....and of course its Sunday! Karen talked to a nurse later and found that today's bloodwork was 2.6 and the doc had not seen it yet when he talked to her. Things began to make a bit more sense. They want to come up slowly I know, but earlier it didn't seem we were ever going to get there!!! Now it appears that the cumulative effect is taking hold and according to the nurse and other medical friends, some people are slower to build this than others. We also got a lot of additional info and we're both much calmer and I think there's a good chance for tomorrow and probably Tuesday at the latest. Karen is greatly improved and when she gets out I think she'll take a big leap forward. Hospitals are great to get you through the crisis times, but NO ONE gets well in a hospital. You become somewhat institutionalized and they tend to "invalid" you to some degree. When I had the bypass three years ago, I was feeling bad when I went in, but within a few hours I was totally controlled by hospital procedures. They're telling me I can't get out of bed, don't move anymore than I have to, yada. yada, yada...........and I'm saying, "For gawdsake, three hours ago I was chasing the kids out of the kitchen and now you say I can't get up to take a piss? Gimmee a break here!" Of course they didn't, but even after the surgery when they have you up and walking, the moment I got in the Van, I felt 100 times better on the spot. I'm sure Karen will feel the same and she is doing quite well anyway. Yesterday we took Phad Thai and assorted other oriental goodies and ate downstairs in the cafeteria. She and Michael arranged his Pokemon cards and we played dominos and such.......nice visit and pretty long for the boys. Hopefully by Tuesday at the latest, we'll all be here at home and getting ready for a Thanksgiving feed and Mikey's birthday. Thanks again and again and again........We have appreciated every thought which has been offered. A lot. Spaw |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Naemanson Date: 19 Nov 00 - 09:39 PM I can think of no better Thanksgiving wish than for you to all celebrate the holiday in your own home together. With Karen enthroned as the queen of the day, week, month and year! Still pushing for you! |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Nov 00 - 09:56 PM Back home for Thanksgiving, I trust - but maybe you'd better watch out for 'spaw's recipes if you want to stay home! |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Little Neophyte Date: 19 Nov 00 - 11:38 PM Puts a whole new perspective on Thanksgiving eh Catspaw. Lots to be thankful for and much to celebrate this Thanksgiving for you guys. Don't you find stuffing a bird a very interesting procedure. Do you get kinky and tie the legs? Bonnie

Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: WyoWoman Date: 19 Nov 00 - 11:46 PM Bad Bonnie, bad, bad Bonnie... (Although I do confess I always feel so ... I don't know ... invasive ... shoving that dressing right up its little ...) Oops. We digress. We were talking healing and compassion here, weren't we? Well, shit, 'Spaw. Sorry things aren't moving along at the rate you'd both hoped for. BUT ... the numbers are improving and ya' don't really want to get impatient with something of this magnitude. It does take some time for that stuff to work its magic, so I think continuing the Phad Thai treatments is definitely in order. Give Karen my regards and I'll keep checking in on youse ... ww |
Subject: RE: KARENSPAW 3 - On the Mend From: Jim the Bart Date: 20 Nov 00 - 02:20 PM I'm so glad to hear that Karen is mending, even if it is taking so long. I hope things continue on the upswing and that you both (and the fam) have a wonderful, restful holiday. Keep feeling better. Bart |
