More postcards. This time from Australia with beautiful rhymes. No problem if it not here for Christmas. I will be thrilled to open it whenever.
But I won't guess where you are really after the flogging I took last year.
Happy HO HO!

Oh goody, you got the postcards. Then your parcel can not be too far behind - that is after customs have poked and prodded it, shaken it, squashed it and batted it round the room a few times :-( So there is a faint chance you may get it this week.

What happened last year? Do tell!

Here are a few more hints:

* I have met your local elves in Real Life, and very nice people they are too!

* We like to have lots of BBQ's - in fact we will probably have one on Christmas Day.

* I like to travel and collect postcards, as you have noticed. My brother lives in one of those places.

* I didn't REALLY make any of your prezzies out of dryer lint - honest!

*You will find out who I am when you open your package!

Love from your well-travelled SSSSS

Santa Clues, I admit to speculating as to your identity. my crystal ball is a little cloudy but it seems:

* you have a beard, but not a white one
* you are a singer of songs (some of them rather bawdy)
* you are a dancer, maybe with bells on your legs and a flowery hat
* you are not John Warner (that's who I thought you were at first)
* you are an English folkie with a quirky sense of humour

(thinks)....

I'm hoping more will be revealed in a week!

You're everywhere and nowhere, Santee, that's where you're at
Maybe right about the bells on, but not the flowery hat.
Santa Clues is an Immortal, what d'ye think of that?
You're guessing who I am in 3D, but what about the 'Cat?

And it's high ho silver lining, everywhere you go, o Santee,
Your summer sun is shining
But will it clear the mist, round this terpsichorist.

Secret Santa,

I had a quick scan through the info you linked to but I haven't had a chance to read it all, so at the moment I'm not much further ahead on the quest to discover where you are, or in the case of the gooey-ducks, where you are no longer. Maybe another clue to narrow it down would help. A little about yourself, perhaps, so that I can try discover who you are?

Your mystified Santee,
Helen

Well, uh, there's been a glitch in the wrapping and packing department here at the North Pole. Can't blame the delay on sloth, beecause Sloth has been busy ironing the Santa suit and gassing up the reindeer.

No, probably the fault of the effect of global warming on the space/time continuum. And maybe the fact that it gets dark too early and we can't have Daylight Savings Time all year round.

Alas, you will probably not receive your package of goodies (all selected, but not wrapped!) before December 25th. However, there is a very, very good chance it will be in your hands before the New Year and well in advance of Old Christmas.

Sigh. All Santa wants for Christmas is two more weeks before Christmas!

Dear Santa,

Not to worry. I should thank you for saving me from the temptatiuon to open my goodies before Christmas (though of course I would never, ever do such a thing).

As a child (in 1961), I spent six months living in Spain, where at that time Santa was unknown and Christmas was just a church celebration. But on the Epiphany, Santa's good buddies the Three Kings came by on camelback and left pressies for me and the other good girls and boys in our shoes, left on the windowsill for that purpose. (The camels must have been tall; I lived on the third floor of an apartment building but the pressies still arrived.) I suspect that Los Tres Reyes Magos will be good to me this year!

Thank you for keeping in touch, Santa!

FUSS..

You may notice I'm no longer Promising to be good
The parcel's very tempting, and I think that I could..
But the only thing that stops my prying little grasp
Are the eyes of a Knight, (and a sword in his grasp?)
I was tempted and tried, and oft made to wonder,
To examine your riddle and pull it asunder…
but.. An Immortal Terpsichordist
(has Santa been hitting the turps?)
An eternal elusion .. til next Monday.. it's confusion!

Next Monday will do fine if that is when your mid-winter/summer celebration occurs. I know that there are some who will open their packages today, it being the solstice; others may care to wait for the New Year or for the birthday of their preferred deity.

Whenever and whatever you celebrate, that will be the right time to open the package, rather than giving in now too easily. But there are no explanations inside - they will only be provided once you have had time to ponder the contents and their meanings.

Santa Clues :-?

Santa Clues

I will wait til Christmas day, because that's the day of presents. i don't worship anything except nature, my children and each moment. there are no explanations to life, although some tell me there is no such thing as an accident.

I hope you have a very happy solstice, Santa, and that you and yours have a very happy Christmas too.

best wishes

SRS, has it occurred to you that all those SSSS's might signify a sound (like the one some reptiles make) rather than letters in a name? It has to me, but I can't think of a member named Ol' Rattler, Bluebelly or Dragonsbreath...

And no, it isn't me; bears never hiss. Just trying to help.

That did occur also, and there are a couple I've tried on the tongue ("Vectis" comes to mind). But by sound alone there isn't a lot to work with. Maybe my SS has a lisp and achieves a quality of Ssss sound that wouldn't occur to me?

Dear Bill t'bodger,

Don't you worry, never fear.
I'm slow: your pressie will appear.
Perhaps a New Year or three kings
Will bring your gift. How bells will ring!

Intentions were to mail it early.
My malady made straight paths curly.
I have a box full of good cheer
Yet the best part did not get here;

Some music sweet to grace your home,
To cheer your heart when you do roam,
Has still to jump inside your box.
I promise I will not send rocks

Or coal to dirty up that treasure
Packed securely, in good measure.
Your box is here. I do regret
I've made you wait. Yet you will get it!

Your deeply apologetic but determined Santa, whose lobster elves and moose team are standing by to depart on their dangerous mission to deliver your precious package the moment the music arrives. ;)

Dear Ed,

As I'd told you earlier, I can't leave the UK until you've reported to the thread that you've recieved and opened The Big Box and listened to the contents of the "pre-present" that you've been passed. This means I've had to spend Christmas in the UK, whereas I'd planned to be back to the Pole for the Holidays at Elf Central enjoying a break before reassignment. I've stayed in far worse places and drank worse stuff than the Harvey's Sussex Bitter at Murray's, but I'd planned to be long gone by now.

I had also told of Being able to sit in with the house band at Murray's even after my bandmates had left, and how young Nottalpha Sprite was getting a bit clingy and possessive about wanting me to settle down locally. Well, that all came to a head when I was reluctantly dragged over to an all too traditional family Christmas dinner at her parents residence. If being a foreigner, travelling man and sometime musician was not bad enough, being an elf turned him completely hostile and absolutely livid with rage. After repeated barely audible racist under-the-breath mutterings about "not wanting any 'Spelves' raised in the family" and how "Elfish should leave the building and return to sender", I took it as a much needed opportunity to storm out in the middle of the meal (an extra large Cornish Hen that amply served five) and end things right there before fisticuffs broke out. Surrey bout, that!

Unfortunately, word has gotten through to me by way of Nottalpha's sister Nearleah that she has only to be given the word and she'd be packed in an hour and ready to run away with me. "Miss Surrey" may love company, but I don't think I do any longer. I'm also tenatively booked for a gig for New Year's Eve at Murray's.

I hope you have The Merriest Season Ever and can acknowledge reciept of your cornucopeia of goodies as soon as possible so I can sneak out of here and get back home in "one piece on earth".

Your troubled Scout-Elf,
Elfish Pressently
(relocated, but still here)

As a dyslexic, I had to think about that for a minute, which is my left hand. . .

I'm working on it.

Dear Elffish Pressently, abject apologies! I was so sure that I'd posted a couple of days before Christmas that I'd received a 'pre-Christmas parcel' of songs, but it seems my post has been lost in the ether. Perhaps I had been under the influence at that time *grin*

So sorry to hear that you have been delayed by this lapse, but obviously the tentative New Years gig is good news! If only I knew where Murray's was, and if I weren't away in Essex at a Barn Dance that night I would certainly come along to hear you & the Band. Is there a Flautist in it too perhaps?

I have indeed started listening to the pre-Christmas tape, what a variety of styles there are. I got half-way through the compilation tape while I was doing pre-Christmas stuff in the kitchen and it certainly set the scene, thank you!

The Postman has not yet come all the way up the drive with the 'big box' but I'm sure this will happen soon. There was a false alarm today, but it turned out to be an indicator unit for my car to replace one I broke on the way to a Mummers Play on Boxing Day. Not nearly as exciting as a present from my own Dear Secret Santa. I shall continue to be good and am sending positive thoughts to You for 2007!

Firecat is watching the catflap......

She's said she will give it until her birthday (old Christmas Eve) until she stops believing. Santa - please send a message!
