Subject: Any news of Doc Watson ? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Sep 08 - 06:54 PM Doc went in for surgery to remove a small cancerous growth from his lung on July 2nd this year. At the time, it was stated that his recovery was expected to last several weeks, after which he hoped to resume his concert schedule. I have not read any news of his condition since then, but I assume there must be Mudcatters in the States who have info regarding Doc's condition. We all hope and pray that he makes, or has already made, a full recovery, but if he hasn't, or isn't expected to (perish the thought) I for one would prefer to know now. |

Subject: RE: Any news of Doc Watson ? From: Mary Katherine Date: 09 Sep 08 - 09:30 PM Doc Watson is recovering well from two major surgeries this year. His stamina is still diminished from what it was a year ago, so he is avoiding strenuous travel. Musically, however, he remains the same old Doc. Subject: RE: Any news of Doc Watson ? From: Fortunato Date: 10 Sep 08 - 07:25 PM Thank you Mary Catherine, Doc is a continuous inspiration for me. When we performed at Fiddler's Grove this year I recalled that Doc had sat upon that stage and was thrilled to be there for that reason. My wife Susette and I see him perform here in Washington DC at every opportunity. Please carry our hopes for a full recovery to him and our sincere gratitude for his music. All the best, Chance Shiver |
Subject: RE: Any news of Doc Watson ? From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 10 Sep 08 - 10:12 PM Great news that Doc is recovering so quickly and so well. I had a joyful reunion with him (only last year? or two summers ago? time flies.....)at Common Ground on the Hill Festival, where we and Doc's band did many of our old numbers from the, "Jean & Doc at Folk City" CD. What fun that was for me, and good visiting backstage afterward. I think that Doc and I are almost exactly the same age- maybe I'm a bit older. Aches and pains are common visitors at this time in life, but Music is a great helper. Keep on keeping on, Doc! |
Subject: RE: Any news of Doc Watson ? From: GUEST,beachcomber Date: 11 Sep 08 - 11:09 AM That is great news indeed for all Doc's fans , everywhere, but I only got to see him "live" once, it was way back in the 70/80s can't rem exactly what year(?). It was in Cork Opera House and he "brought the house down"*. The Pre show publicity was quite low key and , but for a friend,( Sheelagh), I would have missed that golden memory. *(Nuttin' unusual in that eh ?) |
