Can anyone tell me which Doc Watson album contains a song the title of which I believe is "Long Journey" or something similar? I think that he composed it after the death of his wife, and I think it contains the lines "My darling / Oh my darling / My hearts breaks as you take / your long journey."

Thanks for any clues that you can offer.

I just looked for the song, and from that it appears that maybe Doc never recorded it, just wrote it. Emmylou Harris recorded it, and the lyrics and chords are here(click!). Next step is to look at Doc's discography........you can do that at Google(click!) by typing Doc Watson discography in the box. You don't need capitals or quotes..........

It's called "Your Long Journey." You can find it on Doc's CDs "The Watson Family" on Smithsonoan Folways and on "My Dear Old Southern Home" on Sugar Hill.

aaahh, then. Thanks, Ted! Didn't show up as a "Doc" song on Google, just Emmylou. I should have done a discography search, but I get lazy sometimes. Figure people should do their own searching sometimes...........

Last I heard, about 1 month ago, Doc's wife Rosa Lee was alive and kicken. Jeep

If I'm not mistaken, Rosa Lee is not only alive, she, not Doc, wrote the song.

Yes she is. She also sung it along with Doc on the recording. It's one of my favorite accapella songs. I haven't sung it in awhile, so thanks for reminding me!

John Hartford covered it too - on his GUM TREE CANOE album. The co-writers credited are Doc and his wife Rosa Lee. Also on this GREAT project is John's reading of LITTLE PIECE OF MY HEART. I've always wanted to do a banjo-driven bluegrass version of the Stones' NINETEENTH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. But I'm getting off the point - sorry.

Whew, I was worried there about Rosa Lee! The only time I have her voice is Down in the Valley to Pray, which I think has either her mom or Doc's mom's, too...
