Subject: Chord Req: Dylan's 'this dream of you' From: GUEST,new dealer Date: 20 Aug 09 - 05:18 PM The chords to the verses are pretty simple, and so are the chords to the first two lines of the bridge, but the second two lines are in a minor key (I think) and I'm having trouble figuring them out. The lines are shadows dance upon the wall shadows that seem to know it all Can anyone help? It is a truly fine song. Thanks |
Subject: ADDPOP: This Dream of You (Dylan) From: Joe Offer Date: 20 Aug 09 - 05:22 PM For the record, here are the lyrics: This Dream Of You (Bob Dylan) How long can I stay in this nowhere café 'fore night turns into day I wonder why I'm so frightened of dawn All I have and all I know Is this dream of you Which keeps me living on There's a moment when all old things Become new again But that moment might have come and gone All I have and all I know Is this dream of you Which keeps me living on I look away, but I keep seeing it I don't want to believe, but I keep believing it Shadows dance upon the wall Shadows that seem to know it all Am I too blind to see, is my heart playing tricks on me I'm lost in the crowd All my tears are gone All I have and all I know Is this dream of you Which keeps me living on Everything I touch seems to disappear Everywhere I turn you are always here I'll run this race until my earthly death I'll defend this place with my dying breath From a cheerless room in a curtained gloom I saw a star from heaven fall I turned and looked again but it was gone All I have and all I know Is this dream of you Which keeps me living on Source: bobdylan.com |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: This Dream of You (Bob Dylan) From: GUEST,Steve - London Dylan fan. Date: 22 Sep 09 - 11:01 AM I was having the same trouble - the old boy has got really crafty with chords on some of his later stuff. They sound greatt but I have trouble finding them - like Spirit on the water. Lovely stuff. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: This Dream of You (Bob Dylan) From: GUEST,Ted in Menlo Park Date: 02 Jul 11 - 01:50 PM Oho--I just realized what the "-5" in "Bm7-5" must mean. In looking at the Swedish tab & chords I thought it meant the fifth (F#) was in the bass. Actually, it must mean flat-fifth, i.e. F natural. I've been playing a Bdim7 because I could hear the F natural loud and clear on the recording at that point, not an F#. But that means I've been sticking an A flat in there where Dylan has an A natural. Matter of fact, you could probably get away with any of several chords there: Bm7-5, Bdim7, or F major (sliding down one fret to the E major next). Dylan really is getting jazzy with his variation on the standard circle of fifths. From the E (or E7) he goes to Am, then kind of implies another E7 by walking the bass down (G#, G, F#) but leaves it out and goes to the A7 which gets him back to D7. Sly! |
