Subject: From: PattyG Date: 08 Aug 99 - 01:53 PM This has proven to be kinda tough. Thought it was solved, but no-o-o-o-o.....! Second wedding for the couple and after their first dance, dad will dance with his daughter and then the mother will dance with her son to___________________? It needs to be some sort of "family" song as during the song, other family members will begin to dance with each other (all immedicate family members of the united couple.) Can't be "We Are Family" since the groom doensn't fast dance. A long time ago, Debby Boone (and her family) sang a song during a Christmas special about family......it was really pretty, but have never found it. Anyone know anything about that one? We had thought they were going to use "Always" sung by a mixed chorus, but the kids thought it seemed to "old." so! Whaddya think? |
Subject: RE: 'Family' song for wedding reception From: Margo Date: 08 Aug 99 - 02:47 PM I sang at a couple of weddings, and the one song I sang at both was "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof. It is a great slow waltz, very easy to dance to. You can repeat verses, do an instrumental interlude, make longer or shorter as you'd like. Margarita |
Subject: RE: 'Family' song for wedding reception From: PattyG Date: 08 Aug 99 - 04:02 PM Yes, that's a beautiful song, but this is the wedding for the parents and so the context has to have more of a reference to family or just love in general (not "intimate" type love) - see what I mean? I'm beginning to think about looking into some contempory Christian music..........maybe I'll find something appropriate. They sort of like country music, but so far, I've not come up with anything that is "just right." |

Subject: RE: 'Family' song for wedding reception From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Aug 99 - 11:43 PM I think I'd vote for "Sunrise, Sunset." It's one of the most beautiful wedding songs I know, and the words certainly fit the whole idea of family. Another might be TURN AROUND, by Malvina Reynolds and others. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: 'Family' song for wedding reception From: emily rain Date: 09 Aug 99 - 12:05 AM i can hold my tongue no longer. : ) how about "teach your children well"? it's got the "teach your _parents_ well" verse and all... tender and loving... 'course, the implication that it's a child's job to grow and a parent's job to die is inappropriate... is this going to be a live performance? if so, you can slightly alter the words to just about any sweet family song and have the perfect 2nd wedding anthem.
"Where are you going, *giggle* |
Subject: RE: 'Family' song for wedding reception From: Barbara Shaw Date: 09 Aug 99 - 12:57 PM How about the song "Get Together" made famous by the Youngbloods? Get Together Youngbloods Love is but a song to sing Fear's the way we die You can make the mountains ring Or make the angels cry Though the bird is on the wing And you may not know why. (Chorus) Come on people now Smile on your brother Everybody get together Try to love one another right now. Some may come and some may go We shall surely pass When the one that left us here Returns for us at last We are but a moment's sunlight Fading in the grass. If you hear the song I sing You will understand (listen!) You hold the key to love and fear All in your trembling hand Just one key unlocks them both It's there at you command. |
