Hey!

I tried to create breaks after each line in that last posting by typing a "b" in between the left and right... um... pointy things. (Am I losing ya in techinical jargon?)

Instead I got no line breaks and suddenly I was speaking in bold print. What happened?

If this is some kinda incantation, it could actually come in handy. Just think, if I was feeling shy all I'd have to do is say "B IN THE POINTY THINGS!" and suddenly all my inhibitions would disappear and I'd speak boldly.

"B IN THE POINTY THINGS!" Boss, I want a raise. "B IN THE POINTY THINGS!" Honey, I wrecked the car. "B IN THE POINTY THINGS!" Hey, would you control your obnixious child for heaven's sake?

Wow, this could be great.

Many years ago, I taught in an inner, inner city school. A brand new English teacher came in as a sub for the class next door to mine, and read them the poem, "The Owl and the Pussycat." He never substituted there again...

Mary had a little lamb (3X)
Now Mary's lamb is dead
And Mary takes her lamb to school(3X)
Between two slabs of bread

Anyone else sing "The Second Story Window"? As kids it kept us occupied for hours on car trips.
You simply take the first three lines of any nursery rhyme (or any song with the right meter, and there are a lot) and plug in "And he/she/they threw it/him/her out the window" for the fourth line. Thus:

Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep
And can't tell where to find them
Leave them alone and they'll come home
And she threw them out the window
CHORUS:
The window, the window,
the second story window
Leave them alone and they'll come home
And she threw them out the window!

Tune is similar to "Ain't Gonna Rain No More". Variants of this involve singing every verse and nursery rhyme you can think of to either Shady Grove or "OOooeee, Ride Me High" that Bob Dylan song.
This is best done with kids, or adults after 2 a.m.(or maybe anytime here at Mudcat)>

Blessings,
Barbara

In that case............

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard
To get her poor dog a bone.
But when she bent over, Rover came over,
And he had a bone of his own.

Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water,
Each had a dollar and a quarter,
When Jack and Jill came down the hill,
Jill had two dollars and fifty cents,
'Tain't water they went after!

Banjer, that's my husband's style. Besides that he makes up the best nonsense syllables I've ever heard. He can't sing worth a darn, but he does sing to the kids and me.....

Pick a pock of peach pits
Pockets full of pie.
420 blackbirds, baked til they fry.
Winnipeg was opened and burst upon a swing,
Wasn't that a dainty dish, was two by four the King.

I know that's not tradition;
But the toad, you see, was once a lamb
Back before nuclear fission.

Little Jack Horner sat in the corner extracting cube roots to infinity,
a task for all boys that will minimize noise, and maintain a more peaceful vicinity.

I thought it was Mary had a little lamb, a little pork, a little jam..............

Higglety pigglety my black hen, she lays eggs in the relative when!

Oh my, no wonder my kids are warped!

Mary had a little lamb,
Some chicken and some stew
She used to weigh one hundred pounds,
But now she's two-oh-two.

I love her twice as much now that there's twice as much of her to love.---John

The little dog laughed to see such sport, and the dish ran away with the spoon.

"the little dog laughed to see such sport....
and the dish ran away with the spoon"

how's about?

The owl and the pussycat went to sea
in a beautiful pea-green boat

that's all I remember of that one...anyone got more?

My mom used to have an old album of these nursery rhymes done in song....
