Anybody got the words for this?

I can't make out the last verse, and it seems all the folks who post lyrics on the web have the same problem I do...

Grey DeLisle? June Carter Cash? Don't know who wrote it...

Thanks,

V

Lotsa stupid lyrics on the net.
The last line is "Sometimes a gee from a haw"

"Hall" or "heart" seem to be the usual mistakes.

Hmmmm. Interesting song, in a gruesome sort of way. It was recorded by June Carter Cash on the Wildwood Flower album, and by Grey DeLisle on Anchored in Love: A Tribute to June Carter Cash. On Wildwood Flower, June tells a great story of how Lee Marvin's strange conduct inspired her to write the song.

BIG YELLOW PEACHES
(June Carter Cash)

I'm riding along on my pinto,
Got no place to lay my head;
Gonna get me a can of big yellow peaches,
Oh, my true love is dead.

I shot him this morning at daybreak,
I shot him way down in the draw;
He was running around on the Mexican border,
He was a dirty, thieving outlaw.

I'm riding along on my pinto,
Got no place to lay my head;
Gonna get me a can of big yellow peaches,
Oh, my true love is dead.

Well, I might go out hunting for mustang,
I guess we'll go back to the draw;
I'll fill 'em and yell 'em,
And teach 'em and tell 'em,
Sometimes the gee from the haw. (?)

I'm riding along on my pinto,
Got no place to lay my head;
Gonna get me a can of big yellow peaches,
Oh, my true love is dead.

I'm not convinced about Q's gee-haw interpretation, but I can't figure out anything better.

Vixen, I'd like to hear you sing this one. I think you'd do it well.

Gee and haw were (are) directions given to a mule (or a horse? never heard that); left and right.

Thanks Q and Joe!

yes on the directions gee and haw. they make sense in the context of her plans AND in the context of teaching them (like she taught her "true love"?) right from wrong. My biggest problem is the 3rd line in the 2nd verse...both versions sounded to me like "sell 'em...tell 'em" but that made no sense...I'm thinking now it might be "saddle 'em ... tell 'em" with "saddle" sorta getting slurred through so it sounds to my (admittedly impaired) hearing, like "sell".

"fill" makes sense too--as in feed the wild horses so you tame them.
Thanks for the compliment Joe--I really like this song! I'm sure Tim can throw in some of his "tasty licks," as Sandy Paton called them, on the mandolin, and some harmony too.

Mudcats, as always, are the best!

V
