Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the woodcarver - johnny cash From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Sep 03 - 11:44 PM In 1989, Johnny Cash recorded WOODCARVER as a duet with Irish singer Sandy Kelly. I can't find any evidence of it being released on any of Cash's albums, other than bootlegs. AMG - All Music Guide says that Glen Campbell recorded a song called WOODCARVER. It's on his album "Walkin' in the Sun" (1990). That one was written by Rusty Wolfe and Pam Wolfe. I couldn't find any sound samples or lyrics. It would be very helpful if we had a quote from the song. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Woodcarver (Johnny Cash) From: GUEST,pip Date: 08 Jul 09 - 09:48 AM Sandy Kelly: Woodcarver, carve me the house of my dreams. Carve me a valley. Make me a stream That runs through the mountains and under the trees. Woodcarver, do this for me. Johnny Cash: Well, I can carve you a house out of oak, out of pine, Make you a cottage that sits on the line, Or even a cottage that no one can find, With a sun that forever will shine, But I can't make it real for you. It's only as real as the wood that I use. I can't make your dreams come through. That's something you'll have to do. That is first bit of song. Can't be bothered typing anymore. |

Subject: Lyr Add: WOODCARVER (Johnny Cash & Sandy Kelly) From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Jul 09 - 11:11 PM I transcribed this from the video – see the URL above. WOODCARVER As sung by Johnny Cash & Sandy Kelly SK: Woodcarver, carve me the house of my dreams. Carve me a valley. Make me a stream That runs through the mountains and under the trees. Woodcarver, do this for me. JC: Well, I can carve you a house out of oak, out of pine, Make you a castle that sits on the Rhine, Even a cottage that no one can find, With a sun that forever will shine, But I can't make it real for you, Only as real as the wood that I use. I can't make your dreams come true. That's something you'll have to do. SK: Woodcarver, carve me the love I can't find. Make him gentle, tender and kind. Carve him a heart that will always be mine. Woodcarver, take your time. JC: Well, I can carve you a knight or a cowboy in jeans, Or maybe a sailor coming home from the sea, As hard as the oak or as soft as the pine, Just like the man you can't find, But I can't make it real for you, Only as real as the wood that I use. I can't make your dreams come true. That's something you'll have to do. SK: Woodcarver, do you mind if I watch? Your hands are so smooth and your chisel so sharp. I promise that I will not get in your way. Woodcarver, please let me stay. JC: Well, I can carve you your house. I can carve you your man, But I can give you much more with these woodcarving hands. No, you won't be a bother if you want to stay. Do you know what I'm trying to say? I could make it real for you. I'm as real as the wood that I use. I could make your dreams come true. There's nothing more you'd have to do. SK: Oh, woodcarver, make it come true. Woodcarver, carve me the house of my dreams. Carve me a valley. Make me a stream That runs through the mountains and under the trees. Woodcarver, do this for me. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Woodcarver (Johnny Cash) From: GUEST Date: 12 Jan 14 - 09:35 AM Please note: The song uses three chords and there are no key changes. There is one place where the chords change just a bit, but you'll pick up on that--use it as a learning experience. I don't know what key the song is done in, but transposition won't be at all difficult. Any problems, please come back and ask, Guest 12 Jan 14 - 08:49 AM. That is one beautiful well-written song. |
